Friday Feather Fact: Meet the White-headed Duck! This endangered bird belongs to a group of diving ducks from the genus Oxyura, also known as the stiff-tailed ducks. The long tail feathers are used in complex courtship displays. Historically, populations of White-headed Ducks occurred in numbers over 100,000 in their native range of North Africa, Spain, and Asia, but habitat loss, hunting, and hybridization with introduced North American Ruddy Ducks reduced the population to fewer than 10,000 individuals. Ongoing conservation efforts have helped populations in some parts of their range, particularly in Spain.

Say hi to Boogie 🙋‍♀️

Say hi to Boogie 🙋‍♀️

Boogie is a handsome orange tabby cat who was originally adopted as a kitten from the Union County Animal Shelter in 2020, and then sadly returned by the same family over a little over a year later because he was "too rough with the kids". Luckily for Boogie, he found his way to the Goathouse, where the staff immediately recognized he is just an energetic, playful young cat in need of companionship and attention. Boogie is a very sweet cat, but like all young adult cats, he needs plenty of appropriate outlets to channel all that energy, ideally through play and positive interactions with his caretakers. We hope you'll come meet Boogie and consider giving him the second chance that he deserves! Boogie is approximately 2 years old.

Meet the Fairly Oddpups crew! 🧚🏻‍♀️

These pups were just rescued late last night thanks to our wonderful staff. They came from a horrible situation. 💔

An outdoor dog gave birth to these babies and they lived outside from the time they were newborns to now at 3 weeks old. Their mom was sadly and devastatingly shot by a neighbor. We are not sure why they did this. They left 6 defenseless and innocent puppies without a mom. They were starving for a full day and were so cold once the foster mom received them.

Unfortunately prior to rescue, they were fed cows milk which is DANGEROUS and possibly deadly. One of the puppies does seem to be struggling because of this. We really need help raising funds to get them to the vet ASAP and create a treatment plan with the vets so that they can have the highest chance of survival. If you can donate, we would be soooo grateful! You could truly help save their lives by just donating even $5. 🖤

We also want to thank an amazing board member of ours for hopping right in her car late at night, grabbing supplies at the rescue, securing the puppies, and dropping them off at the fosters home at almost midnight. She was a life saver and we are so thankful for her! ❤️

The puppies are eating so good and are sleeping in a warm, clean environment. We are so happy that they are safe. They will not be available for adoption for several weeks.
