🦃The COS Food Pantry provides Holiday Food Baskets for our in-need neighbors. The Holiday Food Baskets include a turkey with all the fixings to create a festive holiday meal. The Holiday Food Baskets are delivered to our in-need neighbors a few days before the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. What makes the program unique is that our in-need neighbors are able to prepare a holiday meal in the comfort of their own home. Creating meals at home gives families the opportunity to continue their family traditions and prepare dinner using their favorite family recipes. Creating holiday memories around the dinner table is truly a priceless gift. We believe that no one should face the devastating effects of hunger, especially during the holidays.

🦃The Holiday Food Basket program was started by local churches in the Kennebunks and dates back to the 1950’s and 1960’s. The program evolved over the years to incorporate the General Assistance offices to help meet the growing need. COS partnered with the program a number of years ago to continue to help support the growing need for food assistance in the community.

🦃Last year, approximately 150 Holiday Food Baskets were delivered during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. The Holiday Food Baskets are assembled at The Sea Road Church in Kennebunk by a large team of volunteers. A separate team of volunteers delivers the baskets directly to our in-need neighbors’ homes a few days before the holidays.

🦃Our in-need neighbors sign up for the Holiday Food Baskets program through the General Assistance office in their town. Inflation and the rapidly rising grocery prices have significantly impacted families that were already struggling to make ends meet. We have seen a significant increase in the need for food assistance at our Food Pantry at 19 Park St. in Kennebunk. We anticipate that there will also be a significant increase in the need for assistance during the holiday season.

💙COS has set a goal to raise $10,000 to help us continue to support these vital programs for our in-need neighbors this holiday season. We cannot do the work we do without the generous support of our community. Please help us fulfill our mission to make sure that no in-need neighbor in the Kennebunks goes hungry this holiday season.

Gold Leaf has been around since the ancient times, applied to such things as statues, artwork and furniture. In the 1870s gold leaf was becoming a popular medium in sign painting especially with businesses such as banks and grocers. By the early 1900's gold leaf exploded in popularity using newer paints, glass and lettering techniques to incorporate within the signage.
Today you can still find examples of real gold leaf on signs, but it's becoming a very niche and lost art. Cast vinyl has replaced much of the gold leaf in signs such as on fire trucks and window signs but there will never be a comparable replacement for true gold.
