Jill & Freya session 3/30/24
Miss Rona is finally getting the hang of this stuff! She’s gone from having little to no drive to stick with a cow to me actually being able to swing on them without her trying to just go to the other side of the arena! So proud of this girl!
Starting to turn Stetson into a barrel horse! He’s taken to it so well!!
Coozie loves the little pond! She had so much fun!
It’s colt starting time! Let’s get them started right!! Send them to me and your young horse will have all the foundation and prep for their first ride to be good, safe experience for them and myself! I prefer not to buck them out and make sure they are actually prepared for their first ride! Follow along on my journey with this sweet filly to see snippets of how I get the first few rides done!
Charlie was an absolute angel to lead line my sisters through the playday events! This boy is still available somehow!! Would be a great leadline and into step up horse for the right youth and could even make an excellent pole horse! Send me a message or come out to the ranch to have a look at him!
CHARLIE
Charlie is an 8 y/o grade grey gelding standing at 15.2hh. He is broke to ride, neck reins and moves off leg. He ropes, doctors, and is all round a great ranch horse. He is currently barefoot. He picks up all 4 feet easily, stands tied and in cross ties.
His downfalls: he can be a tad jumpy on the ground, is a little weird about spray bottles (but we’ve been working on it and he’s doing much better), and he is awful to deworm but I have a trick that works for him. He does have some issues going into the roping box, but with some patience and gentle hands he can get over it.
His positives: I would trust just about anyone on him while supervised, he’s sturdy, and he doesn’t require a huge/ harsh bit to ride. I ride him in a simple d-ring snaffle and he does great! He also takes the bit like a champ and he does great on trails and for hauling out.
Feel free to ask any questions, I’m available any afternoon for you to come see him. Located in Sanger, TX. Mid X,###. Vet check welcome at buyers expense.
I also offer 1/2 off the first month of training for any horses sold through me.
Kota & Cochise left to their new home today! I’ll now have 2 training spots available! Message to get your horses in before they fill up!
Stitch has been coming along very well! Most of the work with him has been focusing on building his confidence when met with difficult/ uncomfortable things. The only answers he had were either setting back or bucking to get away from what he didn’t like. Now he’s learning to trust that I’m not going to put him in a dangerous spot and that there are other ways through those tough situations! #experiment626
And here’s Stitch learning to walk next to the mule! It’s been a whole task on it’s own doing this and he’s getting so much better. Each day he’s getting less and less scared of us and also easier to catch and just generally lead around!
Daisy and I won first in barrels at a play day a couple weeks ago! For the ground being as slick as it was she held her own and did amazing! This mare just keeps proving everyone wrong! 💕 #DaisyDorl
My view from Pepper 🌶 today! He has the most comfortable gaits. This was also him holding a trot on his own which is a big deal for him. We just cruised till he went a couple laps on his own.
Almost everyone got on the walker today! Only ones missing were Daisy, who got the day off, and stitch who still tries to break the walker so he goes alone. But updates in order of who was on there today:
•Stetson: not much to update, just getting him more collected and supple while riding. Also working on dulling his sides a little since he’s extremely sensitive.
•Canelo: he’s gotten his first few rides and they’ve gone so wonderfully! His son, Pepper, definitely gets his trainability from his dad. He has come up a little sore from coming into work so hard and being 8 years old. So he’s gotten a few days off and just getting pampered and will slowly start coming back into work.
•Dash: he’s doing AMAZING! We worked on me riding him with the flag today and he was great! This is his last month with me as he’s just about ready to go home!
•Pepper: an angel as always! He goes home tomorrow and that’s one that I’ll miss so much! We had a wonderful ride today! He followed his nose amazingly and was so much softer on his sides!
•Kota: always such a good sweet boy. I’ve taken the bit away on him and I’m just riding him in the halter and he’s so much better. He’s finally starting to really chill out and think before reacting.
I’ll do separate posts for the 2 that aren’t in this video.
Dash’s first few rides could not have gone any better! From untouched 2.5 months ago to moving cattle on his 3rd ride! So proud of this boy!
First time in a big arena for these two on Friday! They did so wonderful! They both stayed very calm and only one spook each. So proud of these boys! ( And check out how helpful Daisy is!❤️) #colts #Cochise #Kota #JimADeeRanch
Sweet Dash has only been here 3 weeks! Coming when called is huge for him since I had to rope him to even get close to him the first day. Now he can be turned out and comes when he hears me. He also is doing very well around the mares but will not be turned out with any until his stud tendencies are completely gone. He has already tried to challenge Kota for leader so he won’t go out with them for a while yet.
Cochise and Kota were so good today!
Welcome to the program Dash! Crazy to know that 2 days ago this 3 year old stud wasn’t halter broke and I had to rope him to get him onto the trailer to come here. He has such a great mind on him and it’ll only get better once he’s gelded. I’m excited to see how far we can take this boy!
Kota got his first ride yesterday!! He did so well!!
Everyone worked so well today! It was so nice out and everyone got a good spray down after their workouts.
Kota: I call this a mini ride because I’m not really asking him to move forward. I’m only asking him to move his feet how he’s comfortable. As long as he moved his feet I wouldn’t push him. I never want colts to see being ridden as a bad thing, just as another step in their life.
Cochise: we spent more time on me getting up in the stirrup and just leaning over him. From the beginning this guy has been more nervous than most so I’ve taken it very slow to keep the both of us safe. He’s finally coming around to realizing that I’m not out to get him and I’ll be nice as long as he’s nice back.
Rona: this big, sweet mare is always easy to work with. She’s got a play dough brain! So today we just worked more on collecting, some neck reining and traveling in a straight line and making her responsible for where her feet are. Neck reining is something that should be unconsciously worked on every ride. With this mare, she has continued to ignore me on it so I make it a point to work on just that for a few minutes every ride. The straight line practice is very important for her as she’s going on to be a roper so she needs to naturally travel in a straight line unless directed otherwise.
Skye: my little fire breathing dragon is very low on the energy scale. She’d be totally happy if we just stood or walked everywhere. Along with building that stamina, she’s still gotta learn to lope off which is something of a feat for her. It takes so much effort from me to get her into a lope. I felt I was starting to make her “dead” on the sides so I pulled out the mini whip and she finally got the idea.
I am so proud of all of these horses and so thankful to their owners for trusting me to work with them!! *BTW: Skye is still listed for sale! Her price has dropped as I need to make room for more client horses!!*
