We have been in the rescue realm for over 10 years now and have ventured out to create Cali's Misfits! We are a 501c3 tax exempt organization. �

We are focusing our rescue efforts local to Orange County, CA and saving kittens in need.

Something we all dread in rescue...having an animal abandoned at your home or facility 😢 Friday that happened at the home of one of our teammates! We had to scramble to figure out support as she is not one of our bottle feeders. We all have cameras on our properties for safety and thankfully she was able to dig in to this. A local unhoused person tragically found these babies in the dumpster nearby. They are an animal lover themselves and knew she was involved in cat rescue. They apologized for doing this but didn't know what else to do for the kittens. In this case, the kittens were lucky to be discovered so quickly and thanks to our fabulous team they were able to receive prompt critical care. The kittens were thin and weak but they have rebounded beautifully under the care of their foster momma.

Iris checking in on this fabulous Saturday! She is healing up beautifully so far. She has a recheck next week, she will get new xrays done to really see how she's healing. She gets time outside of her crate now to stretch her legs and is fully monitored! She is trying to hang out with her foster sister Violet (Misfit alumni) but can't quite keep up yet 😅💜

SPRING IS HERE! You're eyes do not deceive you, these are in fact puppies 🐶🤣 Why? Well to make a very messy long story short... their own momma turned on them, were given away online at 1 day old and then a few days later the good sams who claimed 4 were referred to us over here. It was only supposed to be for guidance but with no one able to continue caring for them well we took them in. Unfortunately the smallest one passed away, the other three have had struggles since but we have pushed through. More were found that were given away and went to a vet, to discover it was likely canine herpes virus they were battling - very deadly for puppies. So out of 7, the 3 we have are the only survivors. We have fought for them all week and they have fought too ❤️ We would like to transfer them to a dog rescue once weaned. But we need puppy supplies to get them there 😬 We have updated our wishlist to include puppy items! Send good vibes for this crew! 💙

Baby photo dump & story time! 😅 We have been sitting on the cutest babies ever - maybe we are bias. Meet Sam & Dean! These boys were born in a backyard and then discarded by momma, we highly suspect she was stressed. She never came back for them. A sibling was deceased and the boys were found in different locations. Plans have been in the works to get momma spayed, with the rain that caused some struggles but we are hopeful for next week! Wish her luck! 🤞 These two have been absolute angels, living it up in the incubator and getting all the milkies they desire 🍼 We will do our best to share more of them because, just look, SOOO cute 🥰

🎉Iris Update! She is 2 weeks post surgery now and healing up beautifully! Iris wanted to show off her incision site, she had her sutures removed today and she's feeling fabulous 🥰 We are so proud of how resilient this little lover is. Keep up the healing thoughts for her 💖

We hope y'all were able to stay dry today as it continues to rain. Here are our community cats Seamus, left, and Zoey, right, relaxing and staying dry in their little house. These houses are a favorite with our community cats as a warm dry place to sleep and relax.

It's been a little while since we've featured a feral from our colony, here is Seamus staying dry from the morning rain we had. We're expecting some more rain tomorrow, all of our ferals have access to covered shelter and fresh straw for nesting and keeping warm.

Bennie is reaching out!! We can't believe this handsome orange boy wasn't scoped up months ago. He has come a long way from the crusty sick street kitten 😹 He is excellent with cats and dogs! As we begin to prepare for spring and all that entails... We do have teens and adults still hoping to be adopted!

The perks of adopting from a foster based rescue mean they know the cats pretty well! Especially a small group, hopefully means fosters are not overloaded and REALLY know their foster cats.

Not all cats are to run up to you at first meet, but we ask adopters to be please be open minded. The most amazing cats are just there waiting for someone to give them a chance! Remember that when you meet them you are a stranger, they need to get to know you and you them 💖

He has come a long long way from struggling to breath without oxygen and meds on Thanksgiving to today not being on oxygen for a few days 🙌 Kai is back to his oldself and he is having a blast running around with all his friends. So we hope, like Kai, everyone is enjoying their holiday with those they love!

Macadamia checking in! Good news is that her recent bloodwork showed she is in fact responding to the medication. We have adjusted them a little bit and have not seen any other seizures! We are really hoping that she is on the upswing ❤️

We promised some updates and we have a major update to share on sweetie Kai. Last weekend before Thanksgiving he went into respiratory distress, thankfully I have supplies on hand for emergencies like this. However I was incredibly disappointed to find that the handheld nebulizer that was loaned out to a former foster was EMPTY! I like to be prepared and I still had access to tabletop nebulizer. So Kai was able to get treatment asap. This continued for a few days, giving him treatment and I also started him on oral antibiotics. Once we got him to our vet for full diagnostics he was still struggling. We had him on nebulizer treatments, oxygen in the incubator and oral antibiotics. Our fear was this was asthma, however after his x-rays it was clear it was pneumonia. Which he was already on the correct treatments for, but we did add on another stronger antibiotic. So here we are about a week and a half into treatments and Kai is showing some improvement. 😍 The last photo is of him this morning while he was out of the oxygen chamber for a break. He goes in the incubator several times a day for a few hours, there he receives nebulizer treatment and he receives oxygen supplementation. He also is in the incubator overnight for oxygen as he can't go too long without it still. When he was at the vet, there was a moment where we didn't know if he would make it back home, without portable oxygen or a proper chamber at the vet and approaching the holiday he couldn't stay there. I took the chance and drove him home, when we got back home he was turning blue. There is no doubt in my mind we would have either racked up quite the emergency bill at an emergency vet since he needs oxygen or worse lost Kai without our supplies and lifesaving medial equipment.

We want to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving! We hope you are all able to spend time with those you love. Family, friends, chosen family ❤️

A huge shout out to our team of fosters and volunteers. Rescue is a labor of love, but that doesn't make it easy. There are long days, stressful nights, sad cases. But there are also moments of immense joy and happiness when a kitty gets to their forever home. Thank you to our team! 💕

These boys are wondering when they'll get to be chosen?! Benedict and Simon would absolutely LOVE to go to a home together. Both boys are great with kids, small dogs and other cats. Loads of fun personality with these two 😍 as a plus? They are BOTH polydactyl kittens on all four paws! 😅

Meet this happy little guy! He came in to an LA shelter, underage and with the dreaded RINGWORM 😑 so naturally the shelter made him end of day?! That's right he was on the euth list for ringworm poor bo**er. Thankfully a foster saw his plea online and was jumping up at the chance to change his life for the better! He is responding well to his meds and he is such a happy man! He will be available in December. So welcome this Misfit, Mr. Tux aka Felix! 🥰

Macadamia checking in ❤️ Our little girl has had some struggles during the start of her FIP treatment. Mainly she absolutely hates it and knows exactly when it's time for meds! We continue to tell her it's for her own good 🫠 She is thankfully showing improvement, what a wild ride it's been to get to this point but we are so happy to see some improvement. She is gaining some weight and her appetite is back! Good vibes always welcome ❤️

I am shocked that we still have Bennie! This handsome cheddar is an absolute blast. He is always curious and wants to be in the mix with the action. Bennie also adores TV time! He is great with cats, older kids, and even large friendly dogs! ❤️ He's an absolute catch 😍

Check out Santana! He recently had some mouth issues, it was discovered he had a mass! We did a biopsy and thankfully was not cancer, but since he was uncomfortable we needed to remove it and he had a dental while he was under. Here he is post surgery enjoying company visiting his foster family. Santana has become quite the sweet gentleman! Well last night was tough. Truthfully since her FIP treatment has started it has not all been a win. She had a small crash a few weeks ago, but we got her stable again and increased dosage. Yesterday she had an abrupt back slide, this time it was accompanied with what was likely a seizure. This is definitely not what we want to see after a month and a half on treatment. We will need to get her back to the vet to review her bloodwork and see what our next steps should be. Today she is more alert, but not eating again yet and not very mobile. Sadly, I did see some evidence of another seizure. Although we are so thrilled for a treatment for FIP, we do know it is not a 100% cure rate, we are hoping it will work for Mac but we are very aware that may not be the case. Still asking for good vibes ❤️ I plan to keep her stable with supportive care and hopefully we can get her to bounce back. This video is from today around 1pm, just before what I believe was her 2nd seizure. When she is like this she will purr and make her biscuits. Meet one of our latest crusties 🫠 Frankie was spotted while Carla was walking her dog! Thankfully he didn't put up a fuss and went along with her while she carried him all the way home. Little man was pretty sick but he's definitely on the mend now! Frankie should be available in a few weeks. He is a super sweetie who is so thankful to have been saved. TALLULAH!! Not us over here screaming and jumping for joy! Our little lady came to us with a paralyzed leg, we were preparing for a potential amputation as she really struggled getting around with that leg. Since she was so small we had time and decided to do daily physical therapy! While she was mostly a good sport, some days she was more irritated than others but we began to see progress and were not going to give up on her! Well surgery day (also spay day) came and we knew an amputation was not in the cards for this sweetie any longer! Tallulah has full use of her leg again and has received an all clear from our vet 😍 Tallulah is an adventurous little lady, she loves to be around her people and wherever the action is. She's also a major foodie! She is great with cats and learning to be around a friendly dog! We were alerted to this big guy in our own neighborhood. We'd never seen him before, he wasn't neutered but he needed help desperately. When we found him he was so hungry he sniffed out the food in the trap. His eyes were nearly crusted shut with awful mange 😢 He went to our vet and it was clear this was going to be a touch and go situation, but we had high hopes. He was so emaciated and dehydrated on top of the severe mange that covered his limbs and lower body. And really we don't know if there was even more going on. While he eagerly wanted food he was struggling to keep it down, he received treatment and even fluids but tragically just a few days from being trapped Sylvester passed away on his own overnight 😭 This loss was hard, we wanted him to have a chance to be a healthy big guy. We rescued another tuxedo the same day in honor of Sylvester. We just wanted to share his story, he deserved that much. If you see an animal in distress ask for help, if no one is available then please be the help. Rescues are ran by volunteers and we can't do it all. 💔 For Sylvester and all the others like him, I'm so sorry we couldn't save you.

WE DID IT! Peach has completed her 84 days of FIP treatment. She had her appointment yesterday to run all her diagnostics and they look amazing! Her bloodwork is BORING - finally! 😅 We are constantly raising funds these days as this treatment cost took a lot of our funding but thankfully all her meds have been funded now! We so appreciative of everyone who donated for Peach and for many of our other kitties ❤️ All funds go towards kitties medical, food and supplies! Now we will observe Peach and keep all fingers crossed that there is no reoccurrence.
