It's time for a new series--Meet the Staff Saturday, and we've got our longest staff member here to kick things off! 🐾

Jasper has been with us for years. At least a decade. More than that, even. It's true, he's a legend. We asked Jasper a few things to get to know him better. Here's what was said:

Us: "What is your favorite animal?"
Jasper: "I am my favorite animal, of course!"
Us: "What do you think you did for work in your former life?"
Jasper: "I was definitely the CEO of a HUGE company. I love being the boss!"
Us: "If you won the lottery tomorrow, how would we know?"
Jasper: "There would be treats. Tons of gravy treats. ALL OF THE GRAVY TREATS!!!"
Us: "Last one--if you could be a pasta shape, what pasta shape would you be?"
Jasper: "Pasta? What kind of question is that? ....Fusilli."

Stay tuned to meet the rest of our staff!

"Sam entered our shelter a stray on June 20th, presenting with abrasions on his head and around his eye. The origins of these injuries are unclear, but we promptly initiated a treatment plan. Subsequently, we discovered that Sam had been involved in an altercation with another dog, resulting in injuries to the other dog.
Sam has shown a friendly demeanor towards our kennel staff and is generally cooperative when leashed. However, he exhibits a significant prey drive, which occasionally makes it challenging for staff and volunteers to redirect his focus away from other animals. During a playgroup session, Sam displayed assertive behavior towards other dogs. Durning, playgroup Sam growled when a staff reached down to grab the dragline when he under the table, however at the same time another our female helper dog was walking by which is uncertain whether this response was directed towards staff or another dog.
Given these observations, Sam requires more specialized behavioral support than our shelter can provide. He would benefit greatly from comprehensive behavior modification and a full assessment to address his specific needs.
Sam's deadline for exiting the shelter is unknown but soon.

We deeply appreciate your continued support and collaboration." -SBCAS for more information, please contact the Santa Barbara Shelter by stopping by the shelter or call

Meet Venus, our resident fetch aficionado! She’s got the perfect throw—close enough to keep you engaged but still showing off her skills. What a star! Please Share! 🤞🙏

Venus came to us on 6/7/24, rescued by a kind-hearted Samaritan who found Venus alongside an Anatolian Shepherd mix. This thoughtful person kept them safe until our team could step in. Although Venus was initially timid, she was easy to work with, even during her microchipping. Our vet staff echoes the same sentiment: shy but oh-so-sweet. Volunteers describe Venus as a friendly, easy-to-walk companion.

In a recent playgroup with our social butterfly, Ray, Venus was polite but preferred to observe rather than join in the fun.

Currently, Venus is waiting to meet her forever family at our Lompoc Shelter on 1501 W. Central Avenue.

Please help our pups by fostering, adopting one of our dogs or volunteering at one of our shelters. We need our communities help more than ever. Any help will be greatly appreciated! Please share, comment and/or tag to help our pets get seen ➡️ Adopted, ➡️ Foster, ➡️ Rescued! We can’t Thank you enough for helping us find loving homes for our homeless pets in our community 🙏🤞

UPDATE: Rescue HOLD 🐾🥳

Repost from .sbcas.animals

Dear Friends,

We desperately need your help. Our beloved King Louie, ID A533498, needs to find a loving home as soon as possible. Time is running out, and he can’t stay in the shelter much longer. Please share his story and help us find him a forever family.

King Louie was surrendered by his owner who, heartbroken, could no longer care for him. He’s a gentle giant, weighing in at 108 pounds, and his size is matched only by his big, sweet heart. When I first met King Louie, I was struck by how friendly and motivated he was, especially with treats. His playtime with another dog, Fern, was positive—he loved running around but mostly kept to himself, always made sure to check in with Fern and I.

Unfortunately, King Louie had a scuffle with another dog in the shelter, and now his situation is urgent. We need to find him a safe, loving home right away.

Please, if you or someone you know can offer King Louie the love and care he deserves, visit the Santa Maria Shelter at 548 W. Foster Road. You can also message me directly for more information. Every share, comment, tag every moment counts. Let’s give King Louie the chance he needs.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

This what the shelter staff have to say about us:

Peaches and Penelope are a delightful duo of female pit bulls who share a special bond and are looking for a loving home together. Peaches, at just 1.5 years old, is a bouncy bundle of joy with a tail that wags nonstop when she sees the people she loves. Her playful spirit and enthusiasm make her a real heart-stealer.

Penelope, who is seven, brings her own charm with a cheerful and vocal personality. She loves to “talk” to staff and anyone who passes by, always adding a touch of personality to her interactions. Though she may be a bit more reserved compared to Peaches, her warm and friendly nature shines through in every conversation.

This dynamic pair is not just friends but family, and they would thrive best in a home where they can stay together. They need a safe and stable environment where they can settle in and feel secure, knowing they have found their forever home. If you’re ready to open your heart and home to two loving and affectionate dogs, Peaches and Penelope are excited to bring their unique charm and companionship to your family.

Come meet us at the Santa Maria Shelter.

Hello, Marla here and I have a question for you. Do you like cheese? Are you looking for a cheese connoisseur to join you in tasting lots of cheese? Well, I’m your gal. See in my world cheese the best food ever created and should have its own food group. Anyone out there get me? 😊 Alright, back to business. I’ve found myself being a guest at the Santa Barbara County Animal Services Santa Maria shelter location. Not my fault I’m here but that is what cards I was dealt in life. Let me tell you a little about me so you can help me find my forever people. I’m a seasoned gal who enjoys a nice stroll around town and the simple comforts of life. They call me an “easy to walk dog” and delightful. Recently I got to be a “Camp Hope Dog” which was an honor. As a “Camp Hope Dog” I got to show local kids how awesome it is to have dog in their life and enjoyed spending time with the kiddos. I think I would quite enjoy living with a nice kid so we can hang out and enjoy some snacks together. Preferably the cheese variety. 😉 What is my view on other dogs? They’re fine and could live with one that is not an obnoxious puppy but one that is civilized. So if you know anyone looking to adopt a senior send them on down to meet me. Would love to be enjoying sleep on a cozy bed in a home soon.

👋 I’m Timmy, I may be a bit shy at first, but once you get to know me, you’ll discover the sweet, loving soul that lies beneath. 😍🐾🐕

I’m proud to say that I’m fully house trained! No need to worry about any indoor mishaps with me around. I’m ready to bring my gentle energy to a loving home where I can feel safe and secure.

I’m working on my leash-walking skills, so a patient and understanding companion would be ideal for me. With a bit of practice and consistency, I’m sure to become a pro at strolling by your side in no time.

You see, I’m a bit unsure of myself, but don’t let that fool you. I’m a special boy with so much love to give. All I need is someone who can offer me the consistency and encouragement I need to break out of my shell.

Once I feel comfortable with you, get ready for some serious wiggles and affection. I may start out shy, but underneath it all, I’m a bundle of love just waiting to be unleashed.

I do require a bit of patience, but trust me, I’m well worth the time. Building that trust takes a little time, but once you’ve earned it, you’ll have a loyal companion for life.

Are you looking for a furry friend who will reward your patience with unconditional love? If so, I could be the perfect match for you. Let’s embark on this journey together, and I promise you won’t be disappointed.

Hey!!!
My names Shadow and I was recently surrendered to the shelter. I didn’t do anything wrong, my owner just felt that I deserved someone who could love me better and give me more time/attention. I honestly didn’t mind my old life though. I’m originally from Kentucky and then came here and lived at a car shop where my old owner worked. I’m used to living and sleeping outside. During the day I had free roam (probably a little too much) so I got to meet & say hi to all kinds of people often!
I’m almost 3 years old, weigh 46lbs, I’m up to date with my shots, I’m good with other dogs, good with cats (even though they scare me a little), and I’m just recently neutered- hence the cone!
If you come by the Goleta shelter to meet me, I’ll most likely bark at you at first because I want out SO bad. I’m just not used to being confined to such a small area, but once I’m out, you’ll see how sweet and cool I am. 😎

📖 Dear Diary,

🌟 In the story of my life, let’s set the record straight, Diary—I’m not a bad dog, just a bit misunderstood. My mix of American Pit Bull Terrier, German Shepherd, and Boxer makes me a one-of-a-kind companion. My protective instincts might seem like a tough exterior, but deep down, I’m a softie with a heart ready to love hard. 💜

I’ve been in foster homes. Foster homes have shown me the warmth. With the right structure, I can be the most loyal and loving friend. I’m sure of it.

With Love,
Gabby 💕
