"Sam entered our shelter a stray on June 20th, presenting with abrasions on his head and around his eye. The origins of these injuries are unclear, but we promptly initiated a treatment plan. Subsequently, we discovered that Sam had been involved in an altercation with another dog, resulting in injuries to the other dog.
Sam has shown a friendly demeanor towards our kennel staff and is generally cooperative when leashed. However, he exhibits a significant prey drive, which occasionally makes it challenging for staff and volunteers to redirect his focus away from other animals. During a playgroup session, Sam displayed assertive behavior towards other dogs. Durning, playgroup Sam growled when a staff reached down to grab the dragline when he under the table, however at the same time another our female helper dog was walking by which is uncertain whether this response was directed towards staff or another dog.
Given these observations, Sam requires more specialized behavioral support than our shelter can provide. He would benefit greatly from comprehensive behavior modification and a full assessment to address his specific needs.
Sam's deadline for exiting the shelter is unknown but soon.

Meet Venus, our resident fetch aficionado! She’s got the perfect throw—close enough to keep you engaged but still showing off her skills. What a star! Please Share! 🤞🙏
Venus came to us on 6/7/24, rescued by a kind-hearted Samaritan who found Venus alongside an Anatolian Shepherd mix. This thoughtful person kept them safe until our team could step in. Although Venus was initially timid, she was easy to work with, even during her microchipping. Our vet staff echoes the same sentiment: shy but oh-so-sweet. Volunteers describe Venus as a friendly, easy-to-walk companion.
In a recent playgroup with our social butterfly, Ray, Venus was polite but preferred to observe rather than join in the fun.
Currently, Venus is waiting to meet her forever family at our Lompoc Shelter on 1501 W. Central Avenue.

We desperately need your help. Our beloved King Louie, ID A533498, needs to find a loving home as soon as possible. Time is running out, and he can’t stay in the shelter much longer. Please share his story and help us find him a forever family.
King Louie was surrendered by his owner who, heartbroken, could no longer care for him. He’s a gentle giant, weighing in at 108 pounds, and his size is matched only by his big, sweet heart. When I first met King Louie, I was struck by how friendly and motivated he was, especially with treats. His playtime with another dog, Fern, was positive—he loved running around but mostly kept to himself, always made sure to check in with Fern and I.
Unfortunately, King Louie had a scuffle with another dog in the shelter, and now his situation is urgent. We need to find him a safe, loving home right away.

❤️ Ash has been in our shelter for 305 days, which is far too long for any dog to be without a loving home. Despite his extended stay, Ash tries his absolute hardest to keep his cool in our stressful shelter. 🐾He’s the perfect cuddle buddy and will happily snuggle up next to you on the couch. Ash is also house trained, making him an easygoing companion to have around.
On walks, Ash prefers to take his time and explore the world through his keen sense of smell. While he may not be the most athletic dog, he does enjoy occasional bursts of energy, known as “zoomies,” which he sometimes unleashes indoors. So probably not a good fit for adopters with small children. 🐾🐾
Ash would thrive in a home without other pets, where he can decompress from his lengthy shelter stay and receive all the attention and love he deserves. 🐕❤️🐾Hey there, folks! Triscuit here, the resident goofball at the Santa Barbara Shelter. Sadly, I am going on 265 days and counting, but who’s keeping track, right? Well me of coarse. It’s boring Here! With over 150 dogs to choose from, why should you pick little ol’ me? Okay, Okay, I’m not that little, 70 pounds of pure cuddle power to be exact. Well, besides being a gorgeous 3-year-old, I’m like the poster pup for health. Volunteers say that I am easy to harness, I’m a pro at taking treats nicely from your hand, I have decent leash walking skills, and car-riding easy peasy. Plus, I’m all about that human affection, but I also know how to have a good time with my fellow canine pals (who have the same play style). Speaking of which, my Pops, Yoshi is also here at the Santa Barbara Shelter and is searching for a forever home, so double the love, double the fun! Oh, did I mention I’m a total expert at chilling in my kennel? Treats and toys are my jam! Before I get into the misadventure that led me to this situation, let me tell you a bit about who I am and who I can be. I used to live in a home with children, and they took care of me for the most part. I also had another dog as a companion, but he is gone now. I’m just 9 months old, and no one really took the time to teach me how to be the best Roxy I can be. But don’t worry, I’m a smart girl and I’ve picked up the basics. I’m eager to learn more and become the best version of myself! Since I have been here at the shelter, volunteers and staff say that I am smart, easy to harness, a good leash walker and I love to play.
As a Belgian Malinois, I have all the standard traits of my breed. I’m people-focused and I just want to love and connect with my family. I’ll be your best friend and loyal companion, always by your side. I’m intelligent and eager to please, so I’ll be a quick learner. I already know commands like sit and down. But my absolute favorite thing in the world is playing fetch and tug! I’ll bring the ball back to you every single time. I would love to be apart of family that loves the outdoors and adventure.
Now, about that misadventure I mentioned earlier. I got a little too excited and ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time. But I’ve learned from that experience. DAY FOSTER Jack!
Jack is a happy and loyal fellow who loves car rides to his favorite parks. He loves to watch me grill burgers (dog safe) for yummy late morning snacks. During his time at the shelter, Jack has shown great potential during our dog tandem walks with two other female dogs. He handled the experience wonderfully. We believe that Jack would thrive in a home where he can be the sole focus of attention without any other pets.
Not only is Jack a lovable companion, but he is also a smart one. He already knows basic commands like sit, come, shake, and down, and we are currently working on teaching him the command to wait. Jack would do well in a home that can provide him with opportunities to learn new things.
