Lacey is a cute smart 4 1/2 year old spayed female 25 lb mixed breed dog. She might be part mini Aussie and might have some poodle in there. Her coat is soft and may need clipping (came to us with medium length fur recently.) She's vaccinated and microchipped. She's good with other dogs and people. She has not been evaluated with cats or children but there's no reason to think she would be a problem. She is crate trained, housetrained and rides nicely in the car. She is quiet in the house when left in the crate but dislikes being left alone outside (will bark and scratch the door.) Needs more leash training. Comes when called if off a leash. She might do well with agility or just an active lifestyle with an individual or family. Currently in foster care with me in Watsonville.

Adoption is free but vaccines and spay/neuter deposit will be required.

WE HAVE KITTENS and their “Mama Odie.”

Mama Odie was a stray that had her babies in a backyard. They were found by a concerned citizen who reached out on Facebook. We seized the opportunity to take them all in so we could play with these five adorable kittens until they can leave their mother.

Kittens are five weeks old and can be adopted now but will stay with their mom and siblings for another month. We want to ensure they get the best start possible both nutritionally and psychologically.

Two all black male kittens (and sweet friendly sealpoint shorthair mom) are available for adoption. (Three kittens are spoken for.)

Raising working dog puppies in Australia. Beautiful red dry environment. How do they stay looking so clean and shiny? Maybe they are bred to match the environment?

Due to our recent post about patrolling County Parks for off leash violations, people have been approaching our officers to show gratitude for the hard work they do. Today, one of our officers was approached at Aptos Polo Grounds by a woman who wanted to show off the dog she adopted from us 13 years ago. She brought Daisy's original kennel card from 2007 in hopes of seeing an officer and having her photo taken for Facebook.

We appreciate the support from our community and our citizens. We know not everyone agrees with leash law enforcement, but it is the law. It is also only one small part of a BIG job our officers do 24 hours a day seven days a week protecting our citizens and our community’s neediest animals.

I’m seeing a trend in Covid-time puppies. They are very triggered by movement.

To me this suggests they are not seeing enough. I spend hours a week sitting in different places in the real world. Take your own lawn chair and watch traffic. Watch people going in and out of shops. Watch kids playing.

They key is to stay long enough until your puppy is bored.

Socializing means seeing the world. Not interacting with it...

Some friends of ours with an adorable pup!

His Masters Voice - Johnny Lee Schell and Reg at Ultratone Recording Studio.

End of an incredible 2 days. Think I’ve possibly recorded one of the best things to date here. Arrived this morning and Hutch was just finishing off a track with some old Hoffner bass. Beautiful part he played. We have a listen back and it was goosebumps. Wet eyes a bit I have to admit. Hard to describe it but all I can say is today/tomorrow I turn 50 and if that was it I’d die happy.

Can’t wait to share it with everyone soon.

Our Story

Harbor Veterinary Hospital is located at 2450 17th Avenue Santa Cruz CA in the West Marine/ Staples complex. The hospital was in our previous location across from Harbor High continuously since 1994. Kerrin Hoban DVM (practice owner) is available to see patients on M-Fri and some Saturdays.

We provide comprehensive veterinary care to dogs and cats. We offer full service well pet care, puppy and kitten protection packages, free initial shelter/rescue pet exams, comprehensive medicine, dentistry, surgery, and diagnosis and treatment of illness and injury with referral available to specialists in cardiology, dentistry, ophthalmology, internal medicine, neurology, surgery and oncology if needed.

During the COVID-19 pandemic we expanded our services to offer virtual veterinary consultations (by phone, email or text) for established patients that have concerns that can be appropriately addressed without a physical exam or a need for hands on diagnostics or treatment.
