Meet new foster sister, Bailey! She is a 4-month-old puppy looking for her furever home. Since she’s such a smart girl eager to learn, she is looking for a family committed to positive behavior reinforcement training and a daily exercise plan. We recommend experienced dog owners without kids for this little gal since she is still mouthing and has typical behaviors associated with herding breeds. She is working on potty training and is crate training in her foster home. A home with a medium to large size dog may be a fit provided they meet at the shelter. Does this beautiful girl sound like a good fit for your home? Call the shelter at 831-454-7200 today to set up an appointment. #adoptdontshop #santacruz #adopt #animalshelter #puppy #australianshepherd #australianshepardpuppy #puppylove
We asked, YOU answered😻🙏🥰
Thank you for all the donations of cat wand toys and much more!!! You come through time and time again and we are so #grateful for your generosity and commitment to help the animals in our care.
Thank you for your support! The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is an open admission—or open door—animal shelter. This means that we will not turn away any animal that comes to our doors.

Meet adoptable Gilligan and Ginger! These 3-month-old terrier mixes are looking for wonderful families to adopt them. Set up a meet and greet! Thanks to foster parents Erin and Taleese for the update and photos and videos. What a couple of cuties and full of personality! Both are so playful, affectionate, and curious! They love toys and treats and mealtime. They are well on their way to beingpotty trained when given the opportunity to go outside. On the rare occasion they do go inside, they use potty pads. They are sleeping through the night, usually putting themselves in a crate, but we don't shut the door on them. The few nights they have slept in bed with me they've snuggled in under blankets or slept on a pillow next to my head. They have been relaxed in a car. They are very playful with other dogs. Our grumpy resident dog is teaching them boundaries, but they seem to still try different tactics to elicit his affection. They have even gotten my 13 year old stoic chihuahua to play. They have been very confident around a variety of dogs. They have spent some time around my 15 pound cat and justseem interested in him, and are respectful of his space. This morning Ginger went nose to nose with him in an affectionate way! A perfect adoptor would be one with an active lifestyle, and patient with puppy training. Anotherresident dog would be a bonus!
Meet Buck! This 5-year-old rottie mix lost his home to work demands on his family. Buck is looking for a home where he can be the king of his castle and soak up all of his family’s love. Buck lived in a home with children under 12, teens, men and women. His favorite activities are walking, running , chasing balls and playing tug of war. Buck lived with kitties previously but enjoyed chasing them a little too much. A feline free home is recommended. Buck has met dogs at the Shelter but has demonstrated he would likely want to be the only dog in a home. Dog parks, beaches, and high traffic dog areas will likely not allow for Buck to relax and enjoy his time out with his people. He’d prefer quieter hiking trails and secluded camping retreats in the wilderness. If you are looking for a handsome big boy that has some wisdom with age, come meet Buck today.
Scarlet is in the house and ready to meet her new family!
Scarlet came into the Shelter as an underage puppy without her mama. A wonderful foster parent took her and her two sisters into her care to get them big and strong. They are now of age and weight for adoption. Scarlet and her siblings have been in a home with a family, their resident dogs and cats. A home that will prioritize positive reinforcement based training as well as daily mental and physical stimulation will be ideal to help these dogs grow up into well rounded adults. These puppies are anticipated to be high energy and are looking for equally energetic guardians. Could that be you? Come into the Shelter to chat with client services staff about next steps today.
Adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, microchipping, licensing (dogs), and spay/neuter surgeries.
