Beware of foxtails while out and about with your dogs! Foxtails have barbed razor-sharp needles that are dangerous to your dog. If you are exposed, thoroughly inspect the hot spots (ears, nose, eyes, underbelly, between toe pads).

- Foxtails can go up the nose and migrate to the brain.
- Embedded foxtails can cause pain and even death in extreme cases
- Pets with long fur and long ears are especially prone to getting foxtails
- Foxtails move in one direction. They dig in, and they do not come out on their own.
- Foxtails love paws and can easily embed between toes.
- Foxtails can dig into any part of the body, and they don't dissolve.

With warmer weather approaching fast, lets make sure to keep our pets safe this summer. If your pet can not be inside with you, be sure to provide them with lots of shade and water and leave in open spaces, never crated outdoors. Never leave them in your car without the A/C running. Avoid exercising them during peak hours. Check the temperature of asphalt with your hands/bare feet, if its too hot for you, its also too hot for your pets.
Signs of heat stroke in your pet could present itself in many way and can be fatal. Watch for signs of; vomiting, bloody diarrhea, excessive panting, dark or bright red gums, sticky thick saliva, unwillingness to walk, staggering, increased heart rate, and more.

The Whole Kitten Capoodle is looking for a full-time or part-time bather/dryer starting wage at 15.50 per hour plus tips(typically 100-200 per week)during the training process (negotiable with previous professional experience) and will increase after training. Schedule will usually be 9am-3pm, but it depends on grooming appointments scheduled. We now have 2 locations, one in Santa Cruz, the new one in Scotts Valley. Must have experience with dogs & cats. Previous experience professionally bathing/drying is a bonus but not required. Responsibilities include bathing/drying cats & dogs, cleaning ears/expressing a**l glands, helping clean the salon, cleaning up after pets. You must be patient with animals & clients, reliable, not squeamish, have transportation to get to & from work, and be able to lift up to 65 pound dogs. Please be aware that the job is very physical & you will be working with dogs that are anxious & difficult. Please tell us about any experience you have with dogs & cats and why you would like the job in your cover letter(applications that do not include this will not be considered). You must live in Santa Cruz County to apply.

This is a reminder that mice & rats & bats can all get inside and risk infecting pets. We recommend even indoor cats be vaccinated for that reason. And that is also why it is required by state law for any pet to be in a grooming salon. There is no cure for rabies, only prevention. Rabies is nearly always fatal. Stay safe
