Good things are happening at Common Roots Farm as we embark on our most ambitious infrastructure project yet: a new barn. Like all we do, this is a grassroots effort. We are building a place of belonging, life enrichment, and purposeful work to offer people living with an intellectual or developmental disability a fuller adult life... in collaboration with one another and those without disabilities. Our big news is front page news in the Santa Cruz Sentinel today! Sooooo grateful to all the generous people who have gotten us to this point. We have a big lift ahead of us to raise the remaining funds, but what a great start! Beam by beam indeed. .commonrootsfarm.org

As the harvest season ends and we have the opportunity to gather around our tables and enjoy good food and one another, Common Roots wishes all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. We are so grateful for all the volunteers, donors, farmers and participants who bring so much to our farm and our shared table. Food grown with care, sustainable practices, and most importantly, belonging for people with disabilities. Thank you!

As we end our season at Common Roots Farm, we’re filled with gratitude — for the land, for our community, and for YOU! Thanks to your support, we continue to grow an inclusive and welcoming space for people with disabilities.

This year alone, we:
✨ Welcomed 125+ people with disabilities each week
🌾 Grew 20+ food crops and 15 varieties of flowers
💚 Donated hundreds of pounds of produce
👩‍🌾 Partnered with 200+ volunteers
🏗️ Began building our new barn to expand inclusive farming in 2026!

Next year, we’ll be launching new training programs, hosting a farm intern with a disability, welcoming a new day program, and creating even more opportunities for art, learning, and community connection.

We haven't posted lately, but it's not because we haven't been busy. The 2025 season was a very good one that saw Common Roots donating food to our community, hosting participants from two different day programs, welcoming the Shared Adventures weekly garden club, working with our post-secondary students, and more. Thanks to our great group of staff and volunteers, we donated over 300 Blooms of Thanks bouquets, supported CSA customers for 24 weeks of delicious produce grown with care for our soil and our farmers 🥰 👩🏾‍🌾 🧑‍🌾
