Propping up New Mexicans in need,
Helping small businesses open and thrive
Stewarding our flora and fauna
Preserving and expanding our vast cultural heritage and arts
Providing pet cats with affordable spay/n

So if your one of these organizations, and a grant will make you more effective, please reach out to us. We'd like to help. ZCF is a successor group replacing the former Zimmer Feline Foundation. Visit our web site for details.

Working with New Mexico nonprofits is a real learning experience. For instance, did you know that Albuquerque is home to the first urban National Wildlife Refuge in the Southwest? It provides a gateway for urban citizens to connect with nature and conservation. The Friends of Valle de Oro is the support group to enhance the wildlife experience. We're happy to provide them with a grant this week to acquire locally sourced native seeds and plants needed for developing the habitat.

Our December grant window has closed and we've approved 47 grants for a total of $313,000. They will start going out later this week through Vanguard Charitable.

Felines & Friends is one that has been receiving quarterly grants from us to help cover the costs of the many spay/neuter surgeries they do both for their cats up for adoption and for feral cats living in colonies in Santa Fe. They do the surgeries at the Santa Fe Humane Society's Spay Neuter Clinic and at Espanola Humane Society's Spay/Neuter Clinic making this truly a grass roots project!.

Another first-grant recipient this year is Explora Science Center and Children's Museum. Our funding will go toward supporting their Cradle Through Career STEAM Learning Center Focus. Behind this initiative is the goal to improve educational outcomes, drive economic development, and increase family and community prosperity across New Mexico. In addition to being a meaningful goal, the participants look like they have a lot of fun too!

Another first-grant recipient this December is Keshet Dance Company in Albuquerque. They move art beyond a supporting role and position art, and the artists, as critical contributing components of the community's cultural ecosystems as voices for and makers of social change. Their programs include teaching classes inside and outside of New Mexico's juvenile prisons working with 150-200 incarcerated and/or paroling artists annually, and 1,000 non-incarcerated students as well.

If your nonprofit would benefit from an extra grant, we're still taking applications for December. Cutoff is the 15th.

We're happy to provide our first grant this December to Growing Up New Mexico. Each year they provide high-quality early childhood programs, prenatally through age five, to between 3,500 and 4,000 families in Santa Fe and Rio Arriba counties. They also provide home visiting services, infant and toddler care, Early PreK and PreK family coaching and early literacy support as an official Dolly Parton's Imagination Library affiliate. What a great asset for our community!

There's still a few days left to apply for a grass roots grant. Application and eligibility requirements are at our web site. https://zimmer-foundation.org/our-focus/

As we get closer to our December 15th cutoff dates for Grass Roots Grants, we wanted to share a little about a December grant we're issuing to Rocky Mountain Youth Corps. They've applied for a targeted grant to provide comprehensive training for its Summer 2025 American Sign Language (ASL) youth crew. This training will equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to engage in meaningful conservation work, specifically in preparation for their deployment to the Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument. We're happy to help with their important work!

Here's a behind-the-scenes look at feral cat TNR (trap-neuter-return). The cats are fixed in a dedicated spay/neuter clinic and then returned to their traps post op. When they're out of the effect of anesthesia they are returned to their outdoor homes and released. Street Cat Hub has been a long-term resource for this work. And we're pleased to count them among the groups we're providing grants to later this month.

If your organization is looking for financial help for grass-roots New Mexico programs, there's still time to get a December Grant. The window closes December 15th. The application is on our web site:

The food looks delicious, doesn't it? It comes from Three Sisters Kitchen in Albuquerque. They are a community food education center using the power and love of local food to create economic opportunity, improve community health, and bring our diverse communities together around the table! And, they have just been approved for one of our December Grass Roots Grants.

Deadline is December 15th and the application is on our website: https://zimmer-foundation.org/our-focus/. We're budgeting a total payout this December of $300K.

Gerard's House in Santa Fe is one of the recipients. They provide support to children, teenagers and families dealing with the loss of loved ones. This school year they'll be facilitating 23 weekly groups at their own facility as well as in the Santa Fe Public Schools, Espanola, and Ohkay Owingeh Community School.

Our Grass Roots Grants Program issued 32 grants to New Mexico nonprofits last week. Twelve were repeat grants to groups that received help last December and 20 were totally new to our program.

The June grants totaled $221,000, ranging in size from $1,250 to $15,000 or about $7,000 per organization. Our new recipients included the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexicoโ€™s Greatest Needs Impact Fund that supports the immediate and long-term recovery needs for the people, animals, and places affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern New Mexico, The Food Depot, three libraries and several groups that work in a variety of areas โ€“ environment, health and education and pet spay/neuter.

This completes our first year (September 2023 โ€“ August 2024) of grant-giving, reaching a total of 88 organizations with awards totaling $667,000. Our goal for the calendar year 2024 is to exceed $800,000 in awards โ€“ and weโ€™re right on track.

Our next grants will be awarded at the end of September. If you are a nonprofit working at the grass roots level to improve New Mexicoโ€™s quality of life, let us know how we can help. Or โ€“ fill out our online application. We appreciate your service.

Our target was to give out $200,000 each quarter and for Q1 we reached $198,000 with individual grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000. Gerard's House was one of the 17 new organizations to get a grant from us. We're seeking to give grants to small-to-medium New Mexico nonprofits that work at the grass roots level. Their efforts directly improve the quality of life, environment and aesthetics of New Mexico. Reading Quest in Santa Fe received a grant in December from our program. They provide individual reading tutoring to over 400 students each week who attend Title 1 Schools and/or Native American Student Services. Learning to read can be a challenge but the benefits and enjoyment reading gives, lasts a lifetime.

Our next grants go out at the end of March https://zimmer-foundation.org/ and applications for them can be completed on our web site through March 15th.
