Our Grass Roots Grants Program issued 32 grants to New Mexico nonprofits last week. Twelve were repeat grants to groups that received help last December and 20 were totally new to our program.
The June grants totaled $221,000, ranging in size from $1,250 to $15,000 or about $7,000 per organization. Our new recipients included the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexicoโs Greatest Needs Impact Fund that supports the immediate and long-term recovery needs for the people, animals, and places affected by the devastating wildfires in Southern New Mexico, The Food Depot, three libraries and several groups that work in a variety of areas โ environment, health and education and pet spay/neuter.
This completes our first year (September 2023 โ August 2024) of grant-giving, reaching a total of 88 organizations with awards totaling $667,000. Our goal for the calendar year 2024 is to exceed $800,000 in awards โ and weโre right on track.
Our next grants will be awarded at the end of September. If you are a nonprofit working at the grass roots level to improve New Mexicoโs quality of life, let us know how we can help. Or โ fill out our online application. We appreciate your service.
