The Great Arctic: Saturday, February 1st

100 tons of snow will cover DOG PPL, inspired by the remarkable history of canine companions in exploration. To honor this bond, let’s first take a look at Sir John Franklin and his sled dogs.

In 1845, Franklin’s expedition to navigate the Northwest Passage relied on the strength and determination of sled dogs. These dogs hauled vital supplies across the Arctic’s unforgiving terrain, serving as an essential lifeline for the team. Their ability to traverse ice and snow allowed the expedition to press forward in the face of impossible odds, showcasing the critical role of dogs in exploration.

This Saturday, we celebrate their spirit and the connection between humans and dogs. The adventure begins. ❄️

June 12, 1964: Dr. Martin Luther King sat handcuffed in the back of a police car. Beside him, a German Shepherd police dog meant to strike fear. But instead, something unexpected happened. Witnesses described the dog softening its gaze, lowering its ears, and leaning toward Dr. King, almost as if seeking comfort.

The tenderness of that moment stayed with many who saw it. It’s said to have influenced Coretta Scott King’s later advocacy for animal rights, a reflection of the belief that compassion knows no bounds.

As the Palisades Fire continues to unfold, the impact on our community’s beloved dogs and their families is profound. Many have been displaced, left vulnerable, and are in urgent need of support. While the full scope of the needs is still coming into focus, your generous donations are vital to ensuring we can act quickly and effectively to provide relief where it is most needed.

At this moment, we are receiving donations to establish a flexible fund that will be allocated to the areas of greatest need. While details continue to emerge, we are prepared to use these funds in the following ways:

- Emergency Shelter and Safety: Providing displaced dogs with temporary housing, safe transport, and necessary supplies for evacuation.

- Medical Care: Covering the costs of veterinary treatment, medications, and vaccinations for injured or at-risk dogs.

- Food and Essentials: Supplying nutritious food, clean water, and comfort items like bedding to dogs in temporary shelters.

- Shelter Support: behavioral support, fostering, or adoption services as needed.

We are immensely grateful for your generosity during this time of uncertainty. Your contributions empower us to adapt swiftly as the situation evolves, ensuring that every dollar is used where it can make the biggest impact for dogs in need.

With existing dog-friendly evacuation sites potentially reaching capacity, we’re opening our doors to those displaced by the fires to provide a temporary safe space for you and your dogs.

We are opening our doors at 5PM today and plan to remain open to help those displaced until further notice. We will update our stories and our caption as the fire changes.

Unfortunately, due to liability concerns, we are unable to accept dogs over eight months old that are not spayed or neutered, however, if you would like to grab a five-day bag of food and essentials. We apologize for this limitation.

Everyone who enters the space must sign the liability waiver linked in our bio.

Club member Rebel just turned 17 (that’s about 84 in human years) – don’t scroll past without wishing him a Happy Birthday!

His dad, Scott, who’s also celebrating his birthday this weekend, attributes Rebel’s longevity and happiness to staying active, eating well, and always sharing new adventures together.
