Little Trooper Ranch We are a nonprofit animal rescue/small shelter in central Sonoma County. Animals are our first priority.

We are a passionate team dedicated to animals and the humans who will love them. We primarily represent dogs, with a focus on the ones who are least likely to be seen. Our main goal is to find loving homes that are best suited for the animals in our care.

Mission accomplished! We found Cinnamon broken and in excruciating pain. She had stones in her bladder the size of a golf ball and she’s only 6 pounds. We did the surgery to remove them and managed her recovery and the miracle continued when her new mom came to meet her! Now they are off together on their journey as a duo. Nothing makes us happier, especially for precious little Cinnamon!

Here’s a little more happy news for the world. This afternoon an adorable little boy will come home from football practice to a new puppy! He’s been here twice with his parents but he doesn’t know that his mom took Lemming home today. We love this home for Lemming, we can’t wait for updates and we love it when rescue happens this way.
Rescue dogs are perfect in every way. They are pure love and they all deserve homes like this.

Poptart is home!!!! Her new parents walked in the door and she immediately claimed them. It was over in about 30 seconds. Her new dad sat down and Poptart was instantly smitten. She was equally enamored with her new mom. It was a privilege to witness this adorable connection. We definitely are not in control. This was destiny and we are over the moon for Poptart. 💕

We love to hear from our adopter families! Check this out from Gordie's (now Gordo) and Lila's (now Niña) new home!

"We've had Gordy (Gordo) and Lila (Niña) for two weeks already and it's been going really well. They are getting along great with Simba and Daisy although getting the 4 of them in one picture has been nearly impossible (I'll keep working on it).

"We've learned that they both respond well to commands in Spanish and Lila responds to Niña more than Lila. We figured it out when we said Niña in conversation and she came running over. Lila is definitely a goofball. Each day she is coming out of her shell more and more. Gordy loves to run around and explore with Daisy in the yard and was quickly recruited into the ongoing war with the neighborhood squirrels. They both love looking out the window in the front of the house. They also got to meet my sister's dog Jimmy who they will begin to see more regularly.

"They brought back the life (and noise) that had been missing for a while. We all feel so blessed that we got to bring both of them home with us."

This is just the best news we can ever hope for. Thank you to Gordo's and Niña's new family!

Poor little Cinnamon has a bladder full of stones so the wonderful folks at Northtown Guardian Pet Hospital will surgically remove them today. This poor girl has been in so much pain for a long time but it stops with us!
We knew something was wrong when the antibiotics didn’t work. We’re so grateful for this clinic for squeezing us in and for making time for this precious Little Trooper.

Pumpkin is 4.5 pounds of adorable. This senior gent is the easiest dog you’ll ever meet. He sleeps most of the time and although he requires eye drops, multiple times per day, he is otherwise nothing but a pleasure to have around. He loves snuggles but doesn’t love to be held or carried around. He likes car rides and strollers and he loves to be kissed, scratched and loved. We want the very best forever home for Pumpkin. Adoption success - yet another life saved!

Lemur had her final romp in the Little Trooper field today with her last remaining brother and then she was swept away to her new home. We know she will be loved beyond compare and all of her needs will be met. Plus, she has two very cute new K9 siblings to help her grow up to be big, strong and brave.

He lives up to his name. Hercules is 3.5 pounds of power, fury and love. It takes him a minute to trust new people but he’s 3.5 pounds; everyone and everything is a giant. Can you imagine being so small? His attitude compensates for his size and he’s only around 3 years old so he can be your best friend for many many years!

Hercules is underweight, so we’re making sure he gets lots of great food and we’re teaching him that there are gentle giants who will keep him safe and warm.

His favorite spot is a furry electric blanket and his favorite food is Fresh Pet. We removed some rotting teeth and neutered him so he is ready to go! Apply now for the teeniest sweetest "guard dog" you’ll ever meet!

Now Available for adoption!

We believe Gus is a toy golden retriever, if there is such a creature. He’s precious beyond belief but he has some special "features", like not knowing where he is most of the time. He also barks when he doesn’t know where his human is.

If you’re looking for a sweet soft elderly little dog to love, protect and snuggle, look no further. We’re not sure what happened to this innocent being but he was found on the streets near a homeless encampment with a terrible ear infection, rotting teeth, and layers of flea dirt, so we figure he’s had a rough life.

Luckily we are here to clean and fix him up, and to make sure the rest of his days are filled with security and love. If you can provide this for an 8-pound senior toy golden retriever, apply now for Gus. He has so much love to give.

We've been told that we need to up our Social Media presence, which we get.... but.... workload/bandwidth is a bit of an issue for us. What we CAN do is better publicize our adoption/success stories. So here goes with our most recent one:

It’s been a crazy road to get here, but Lila and Gordie landed in the best home possible. Never in a million years did we expect them to stay together, but the stars aligned and their dreams came true! They can chase each other around, forever!

We’ll miss these stunning little muppet creatures but we sure are happy for them. ❤️❤️❤️

Here’s a very happy story about a very special dog. We found Rumple at Fresno Humane in Dec 2023. He was fearful, under-socialized and unloved. We said yes and a day later he was a Little Trooper. We spent a year teaching him that people were okay and a wonderful home came along at about month 9. He lasted 2 hours in the new home so we knew he wasn’t quite ready so we picked him up and started all over again. Luckily, the most incredible foster home came along (thank you Betsy) and asked for the challenge. Now Rumple can sit, lay down and come when called thanks to the love and attention he’s getting from Jeff and Cassie. They are taking him to daycare, parks and restaurants and he even got a nail trim! Because he is with these amazing people, he is becoming a perfect gentleman and we had an open spot to save another life. Foster homes save lives and Rumple is still up for adoption! Who would like a pair of flawless middle aged love-muffins? Kiki and Luna lived outside most of their lives so we are looking for the finest of homes for this sweet little pair. Kiki is only 5 pounds but his personality is massive. He had 9 rotting teeth removed on Sunday and was also neutered. Luna will have a hernia repair, a spay and a dental this coming Sunday and then they are ready to go home! We’ll post them on our website soon but apply away for this rare beautiful pair. Luna is around 8 pounds, they are both incredibly charming and they deserve the world. No more being ignored outside in the cold and heat. Nope. They are troopers now.

Yesterday was a long one filled with some drama, some rain, lots of stormy clouds and one very special delivery. Thank you to the wonderful people at the Porterville shelter and their trusted vet clinic for saving Lorenzo’s life.
It took two surgeries, a ton of staples and a ton of stitches to put this little man back together again after a brutal attack by a big dog.
Thank you to Jennifer Colletto for bringing us all together to make this rescue possible and to pilot Olaf who delivered him safely to us in dangerous conditions.
We had to pivot, jump in cars, follow his plane from the ground (using his tail number, thank you Mark Penn!) and meet up on the side of the freeway in a raging storm to get Lorenzo from there to here in one piece.
He has taken nicely to life inside a home on toasty warm blankets. This tiny little guy was a neighborhood stray for over a year. People fed him but no one took him in until he was almost killed but another dog.
Like I often say, the worst day of their life is usually the best day. He would still be struggling survive all alone on the streets if he wasn’t attacked. It’s a terrible way to get rescued but at least he will know love, companionship and comfort from now on.
We are so happy to welcome Lorenzo into our big Little Trooper family. 🐕

Friends, we could use some help. We have so many dogs, most are not yet posted on our website but we’re working on it. Some are hospice dogs. We are small and we rely on donations and adoption fees to survive, to keep saving lives but adoptions are very slow. If you can donate, foster some dogs or share our posts, it will save lives. We can’t save more dogs until we find homes for our current dogs and we have 24 surgeries to do in the next 2 weeks. We need help. Saving lives is expensive.
