Meet Silky🐈⬛
As you can see, if you work from home, she is the perfect buddy to help you with your work while encouraging you to take frequent breaks for playtime🐱
Silky, named for her softer-than-silk fur, is an absolute gem of a kitten. She’s the perfect mix of silliness, playful antics and loving snuggles. Whether she’s pouncing on toys or exploring with curiosity, Silky brings endless smiles and laughter but will save time to curl up on your lap for some love and endless purrs❤️
The perfect home for Silky would have adults who are often around, respectful older children, and maybe even another fun and friendly cat or kitten to be her playmate. Does this sound like you?

#WellnessWednesday : Feline Mastitis
Besides a mother cat frantically looking for her now-missing kittens, the onset of mastitis can be a sad consequence of separating a nursing feline from her kittens too soon. This very painful condition is caused by inflammation of the mammary gland. Prolonged periods of milk accumulation without removal (no kittens to nurse) can lead to a bacterial infection—and if not treated, can be deadly. As mastitis progresses, the gland will become increasingly swollen, inflamed, discolored (often red or purple), and it is extremely painful for the feline. In worst cases, the feline’s breast becomes so full with milk that it forcibly erupts from the teat, or the gland will ulcerate with visible open wounds, scabs, blood, or pus.
Is this a bit graphic? Yes. Did we really need to see this? Yes. These images are meant to educate and prevent unnecessary suffering. Removing newborns and kittens under the age of 4 weeks from their mother only increases her instance of mastitis. Plus, the kittens lose important socializing and life skills mama would impart to them during their time together.
If you find a nest of kittens, follow our guide (link below) for what to do and importantly, not do. And please, DO NOT leave Mama behind. She should be spayed so she never has to deal with unwanted litters and possible life threatening infections ever again.

#WellnessWednesday : Pyometra
*SENSITIVE CONTENT*
With the breeding season in full-swing, we’re sharing some sensitive, real-life medical images about Pyometra. The instances of this condition has become increasingly prevalent in our clinics. It is life-threating if not treated properly and promptly. Pyometra is an infection that fills the uterus with bacteria ridden pus due to hormonal changes when a female is “in Heat”.
We’re using the graphic nature of these slides to once again convey the critical importance ALTERING YOUR CAT. You can prevent this serious medical condition from occurring in the first place by simply by fixing your feline.
After a "heat" cycle in female felines, the uterine walls thicken in preparation for pregnancy. If this occurs repeatedly without pregnancy, the walls continue to thicken, and cysts develop. When they burst, they release fluid that facilitates the growth of bacteria. When the female is in heat, white blood cells of the cat's immune system are stopped from entering the uterus, and her cervix is open to allow sperm to enter. With the cervix open, this allows bacteria, generally E. Coli, to enter and multiply, eventually infecting the uterus. As conditions worsen, toxins enter the bloodstream and lead to sepsis. The most effective treatment is to remove the whole uterus and ovaries then treat with antibiotics. If left untreated, the infection will lead to death.

Say “hello” to Betty (formerly known as Ghost)
Betty is the best distraction you’ll ever meet. Do you work from home and find you are far too productive? Are you constantly staying on task and ignoring distractions to the point where life has become boring or stressful? With Betty by your side, she’ll break up the monotony of everyday life with frequent tension-alleviating snuggle sessions.
Research shows petting an animal decreases cortisol levels and lowers blood pressure. Betty is an expert stress monitor and will remind you (gently pawing) when it’s time to relax (cuddle). Betty loves having her gorgeous fluffy black coat brushed….all day long would be her preference. 😹 Connection with you is her top priority and you’ll find her favorite place will be your lap.
Betty is a senior kitty who is hyperthyroid, has moderate kidney disease, and a slight heart murmur. She’s in our Forever Foster program which means Forgotten Felines will cover all healthcare costs. All you have to do is provide a safe and loving home, and lots of attention focused on her as the solo kitty in your household. It’s a healthy win-win for everyone! 🐈⬛❤️
