Just a friendly reminder to our clients from our Senior Executive Assistant “Amelie” ‼️

Make sure your pets are receiving their flea, tick, & heartworm preventions! Here Amelie is showing us the tick she found & caught lurking outside the other day! It’s a good thing Amelie is up to date on her preventatives! This tick didn’t stand a chance (Photo for reference)

Don’t forget to give the prevention! Here are some tips from Amelie ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Get a calendar 🗓️ and mark off each month that you give your prevention

Keep track of prevention on your phone 📱

Keep a note on your refrigerator or in a place at home where you know you’ll look 👀

Friendly reminder to all pet parents ⤵️

• Never leave your animals alone in a parked vehicle. Not only can it lead to fatal heat stroke, and it is illegal in several states! Many states and local governments have laws that prohibit leaving an animal unattended in a motor vehicle under dangerous conditions, which includes hot days. Your car could be damaged or you could be charged with a crime.

• Animals with flat faces, like Pugs and Persian cats, are more susceptible to heat stroke since they cannot pant as effectively. These pets, along with the elderly, the overweight, and those with heart or lung diseases, should be kept cool in air-conditioned rooms as much as possible.

• Shady spots offer little protection on hot days, and move with the sun.

• Know the symptoms of overheating in pets, which include excessive panting or difficulty breathing, increased heart and respiratory rate, drooling, mild weakness, stupor or even collapse.

At least one-third of dogs suffer from noise aversion, a fear and anxiety exhibited upon hearing loud noises (including fireworks) that leads to stress, suffering and potentially-destructive behavior. Other terms used to describe this response to noise include noise anxiety or noise phobia.

Remember that what we might find fun to celebrate during the Summer holidays could be terrifying for our furry friends. (Loud booms and flashing lights from fireworks) —- make sure to put in your pet’s medication refills early and please allow 24-48 hours for your request to be processed. ❤️🤍💙

Pet owners are being urged to keep a close eye on their dogs at the beach.

More recently here along the Sonoma Coast & SF beaches, due to there being an abundance of “Velella” washing up on shores. They are related to but not jellyfish themselves. They are hydroids with stinging tentacles they use to paralyze plankton.

[The Velella velella is] a colony of animals. And if you look really closely, all those little things hanging down that look like tentacles are all different organisms within the same colony, and they all work together, kind of like coral, and they all have a different purpose. One is for reproduction, one is for feeding, and one is for defense.

So it's notoriously hard and protective, but you definitely don't want to pick them up and touch them because they are cnidarians. Their sting is not known to be as toxic as their relatives, the Portuguese man o' war, or even their more distant relatives jellyfish, sea nettles, things like that. But they can cause irritation. I wouldn't suggest picking them up with your bare hands.

If consumed by our pets can cause serious GI upset or GI blockage.

Keep a close eye on your pets while visiting the beach and avoid allowing your pups to get ahold of one of these creatures.

STAY SAFE this holiday weekend! 🐾🐾🐾🐾

Rabbit vaccines 💉 everything that you need to know ⬇️

I f you are a new pet parent or existing pet parent to a rabbit, it’s important to know your rabbit’s vaccination status, vaccines available, and preventing diseases in your rabbit.

RHDV2 is a calicivirus (a virus that is part of the virus family Caliciciviridae), that attacks the rabbit’s liver and is highly contagious and lethal to rabbits. Symptoms can include sudden collapse and death, as well as severe bleeding.

RHDV can survive in the environment, be carried into the home on clothing or shoes, and spread to your rabbit easily. It can also spread directly from infected rabbits to other rabbits or if your rabbit is exposed to an infected rabbit's blood, urine, or f***s.

In the United States, the RHDV2 vaccine is available in 45 states. Preliminary research suggests it is safe and effective at preventing infection. 🚫🚫🚫

If you have any questions or concerns about the vaccine, insect control, or cleaning/disinfectant, work closely with your veterinarian to determine the best next steps together. ❤️🐇

Batty's 2nd Birthday is coming up in April, and all he wants is a furrever home!

Batty came to us as a baby in June 2021 as a surrender, he was born without an a**l opening and therefore was unable to have bowel movements. Dr Fisher performed a successful, life saving surgery on Batty to create an opening for him to be able to go to the bathroom. Batty takes Mirilax daily in his food to help his BM's stay regular, but he eats it without issue. Batty is a happy, playful, funny cat. We are looking for someone that's willing to adopt him and give him the good life he deserves, as a vet hospital is not an ideal setting for him to learn, grow and play in. From our observations he gets along well with small dogs and cats, and is curious about larger dogs but seems to keep his distance as he observes. Definitely loves to play. If you're interested in adopting Batty, or have any questions about his health/needs, please email us at [email protected] with the subject line "Batty adoption" and we can further discuss any questions you might have or set up a meet and greet 🙂

Batty is fully vaccinated for Rabies and FVRCP. He was tested for intestinal parasites in November 2022 (no ova or parasites were seen). He was tested for FIV in June 2021 when he was brought to us and he was negative, and has not spent time outdoors since he's been with us. He is already microchipped and neutered. If you or someone you know wants to adopt an adorable cat with an incredible story of survival, please reach out!

This is Lager. He came in to see us on emergency because he ingested a bundle of grapes off of the kitchen counter. There are many humans foods that are toxic to dogs/cats, grapes being one of them. With the holiday's coming up we want to remind all pet parents that the following human foods are toxic to pets and your pet should be seen asap after ingesting any of these foods:

Grapes, raisins, avocado, onions, garlic, chives, corn on the cob, artificial sweeteners, citrus, chocolate, macadamia nuts . If your beloved pet accidently ingests a toxic food there is a limited window to induce vomiting so your pet hopefully vomits up all the toxic food. Lager was able to go home same day and hopefully learned his lesson about eating grapes. If you have any questions/concerns what is a safe treat or food to feed your pet please give us a call 707-576-0764

HAPPY VET TECH WEEK!! We are so grateful for our hard working, amazing technicians. While they deserve 365 days of praise, gifts, and appreciation for the hard work they put in, we along with the rest of the Veterinary community would like to celebrate this week, the official Vet Tech Appreciation week! Today we surprised our staff with paint portraits of everyone's beloved fur baby and were sent yummy donuts from M.W.I, and a pasta feast from Olive Garden, thanks to Zoetis!

We have had several inquiries about Batman/Batty and wanting to adopt him. We wanted to reach out to our valued clients first before calling shelters or rescues as they are mostly at capacity at this time.

Still looking for this little guy's family. Found 6/28 near A and 8th Street in Santa Rosa. Very sweet little guy. Dr Fisher believes he is around 10/11 years old, with an apparent old shoulder injury. Proof of ownership required. Please reach out if you hear of anyone looking for this little guy! He's about 8 pounds, miniature poodle. He's been safe with us, but he wants to go home and we know someone out there is looking for this sweet little guy!
One of our staff members is currently fostering him until we can find his family.
PLEASE SHARE THIS POST TO HELP HIM FIND HIS FAMILY! ❤️

4th of July on Monday, which means fireworks and loud, potentially frightening noises for pets that don’t know what’s going on. If your pet spends the 4th of July scared and upset from the loud noises, please call our office and our Doctors can prescribe a sedative that would make their night a lot less stressful.
*Current health exam required for prescription medication.

We are closed Saturdays going forward until further notice, so please keep that in mind and make sure you have all of your pet's medications and food needed this for weekend! We are here today and tomorrow until 5:30 (closed for lunch 12:30-1:30) and we will re-open on Tuesday July 5th after the Holiday!

Here are some good tips from The American Kennel Club on how to keep your dog calm during the fireworks:
