Working with the puppy class week 5/6 on luring for leash skills, increased duration stays, and some fun games to help them practice various skills with “musical chairs”. This is such a great first puppy class of the season! Herman won the musical chairs till Wiz pushed him off the platform. When we get done with training we let the puppies have a few minutes to socialize and play and they are becoming some of the best of friends when in the beginning some were nervous and reactive to others! #puppyclasses #puppytraining #obediencetraining #leashmanners #musicalchairs #traininggames #kaninefreedom
Working with a more notoriously known for stubborness puppy that isn’t used to engaging for walks or handling can be difficult. We found Nala is motivated by movement, and food simultaneously but still will have some work to go. When your puppy is disengaged and refusing to respond give them a moment to think about what you are asking as well as gentle leash pressure in the direction you want them to go. Make it FUN for them to engage with you! We’ll be working with her for awhile so this is just the beginning of creating freedom for Nala and her handler! #freedogisafreeyou #kaninefreedom #basicobedience #trainingengagement #foodmotivation #leashmanners

Rainy days mean field trips on training days. Today we worked on Torgal’s ability to follow along and work on his middle command and heel where he can walk beside or between legs for safety in busier environments. Often times people are not aware of a dogs presence nor do they quite care. They see one and just want to interact or avoid. Teaching him to be at rest directly beside or between legs means he has less likelihood of being stepped on or tripped over by anyone not paying attention while in the same environment as you. The field trip provides training and socialization that is incredibly important even despite the rain. #fieldtrips #trainingday #servicetraining #servicedogintraining #obedíencetraíníng #belgianmalinois #australiancattledog #kaninefreedom

Working an evening training session with Torgal the 5 month malinois mix on his heel in an outside setting, and during walks. When trying to implement a proper, clean “heel” make sure the handlers use the same side or if different sides, different commands for which side you would like them at with you. Some small tips are to be consistent, reward heavily while starting the new command from the polished command and make it fun to keep them engaged. Also, hold the leash closer to you and always reward with the hand the “heel” is being taught on so they do not cross your body to be paid. This can cause you to step on your pup, trip, or any number of things. #nightsession #training #heelconcept #kaninefreedom #maligator #malinoispuppy #malinoismix

Blue the 7 month old Frenchie is working on the command “lay down. “ Some quick tips to get your puppy to learn this skill are:
-Treats and Lure: Hold a treat close to your puppy’s nose and slowly lower it to the ground. As they follow the treat, say “down” and reward them when they lie down. Repeat the process, gradually reducing the treat’s proximity.
-Positive Reinforcement: When your puppy naturally lies down, praise them and offer treats. Consistently reward this behavior to reinforce the command. Positive reinforcement creates a link between the action and a positive outcome, making them more likely to comply.
-Consistent Commands: Use a consistent command, like “down,” and avoid confusing variations. Repeat the command in a clear, firm tone. Consistency helps your puppy associate the word with the desired action, making it easier for them to understand and follow your instructions.
