The Ruff Life
The Ruff Ranch originally opened as the K9 Ranch in December 1, 2018 as part of an expansion of K-Nine Solutions, a dog training business operating in Santa Barbara since 2015. After operating the K9 Ranch for a year, Justin Davanzo and Eric Smith, K-Nine’s business owners, decided to divide the two locations into two separate businesses to better serve the growing needs of dog owners in Santa Barbara County.
As the founder and owner of the Ruff Ranch, Justin spent the past 5 years as an owner and Lead Trainer of K-Nine Solutions. While there he was proud to have been part of the successful dog training business voted Best Dog Trainers by the Santa Barbara Independent’s reader poll in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019. The Ruff Ranch continues to provide a broad range of dog training (including mobile pick up and drop off), day care, and overnight boarding and is permitted by Santa Barbara County as a dog boarding and training facility, fully bonded and insured.
Justin Davanzo is the founder and owner of The Ruff Ranch (www.theruffranch.com), a dog training and boarding facility in Santa Ynez, California. He has lived in Santa Barbara with his two dogs, Apollo and Cleo, since 2013. Justin embodies all of the attributes and skills it takes to make a great trainer: patience, empathy, effective communication, and problem-solvingthe . For Justin, working as a dog trainer is more than just training dogs to “Sit, stay and come” – it’s about developing a relationship with both the dog and its owners based on mutual trust and respect. Justin firmly believes in and teaches a “Train as you live” philosophy which supports developing a great lifestyle for owners and their dogs. A Santa Monica native, Justin earned his Bachelor’s degree in Theater Arts at the University of Oregon in 1996. Since then he has continued to pursue his passion for acting in dozens of productions in Los Angeles and Santa Barbara. He is an avid photographer and a certified ski Instructor.
