The fastest way to change your dog's behavior is to change how you interact with them.
Effective and PERMANENT changes in your dog's behavior requires changes in your lifestyle and responses to your dog's actions.
Example:
If your dog jumps on you, instead of continuing on into the house and trying to ignore your dog, try turning around and leaving again. Show your dog that jumping on you makes you LEAVE, not stay with them.
When your dog pulls on the leash, try turning around and walking in the opposite direction, to show your dog pulling no longer results in forward progress. Instead we just go somewhere else for a bit!
If you're looking for a change in your dog's behavior, comment below!
Give me a scenario you're struggling with and I'll give you something else to try.

In Dr. Susan Friedman's words, behavior doesn't "flow like a fountain" without the need for outcomes. Behavior is "a tool to produce consequences." (This is backed by sixty-plus years of unequivocal scientific evidence!) A mountain of evidence from decades of research has demonstrated that positive reinforcement β i.e., rewards β makes relationships better and never worse.

πΎ The Journey of Max: From Jumpy to Gentle! πΆ
Hello, fellow dog lovers! I wanted to share a little story about a journey with an adorable, energetic pup named Max. π
Not too long ago, Max was a jumping bean.
Whenever someone came through the door, he would leap up in excitement, often startling the guests (and sometimes even knocking things over!). It was cute at first, but soon it became a bit of a problem, especially with elderly family members and little kids visiting. π
So, his owners decided it was time for some training. It wasn't easy at first, but with patience and consistency, Max started to learn. The transformation was incredible!
Hereβs what changed:
π Safety First: Training Max to stop jumping made the home safer for everyone, especially for the younger and older visitors. No more worries about accidental scratches or falls.
π Better Socialization: Max now greets people more calmly, which means he's becoming a social butterfly! His owners' friends and family are more comfortable around him, and he's making more human friends than ever.
π Improved Behavior Overall: This training journey didn't just stop at jumping. Max has become more responsive to other commands too, making him a well-behaved and even more lovable companion.
π Stronger Bond: Working together on this has strengthened the bond between Max and his owners. It's amazing how training has improved communication and understanding of each other.
π The verdict? Training your dog to stop jumping is not just about good manners; it's about creating a safer, more sociable, and harmonious environment for everyone involved. If you're on the fence about starting this training journey, I say go for it! It's worth every effort. π
P.S. Hereβs a picture of Max, calmly greeting my friend with a gentle wag instead of a jump. How has training transformed your furry friend? Share your stories below! πΈπ
TRAINING REWARDS!
When training a dog, we let the dog decide the reward. Some dogs prefer treats, others prefer play, and a special few just want a scratch behind the ear.
And sometimes the dog's prefered reward is playing with the garden hose!
What are your dogβs favorite βweirdβ rewards?
Drop them in the comment section below! Happy training!!!

He loves kids and does well with dogs of all sizes. He's also familiar with cats and does well with them, too.
His owner is very sad to let him go but recent life events have made it necessary. There will be a re-homing fee to ensure he goes to a great home.
If you are interested in Ragnar send me a PM, or text/call 8018229877

Bentley is a good girl. She's got a lot to learn and she's SO EXCITED to get started <3 In these first few training sessions, we're working on teaching her what her commands mean and what positions she needs to be in to get it right.` When my hand does *this*, you do *this* When I say *this*, you do *this* She offers a lot of extra behaviors (lifting paws, hopping, shuffling, etc.) because she's trying things out to see what works and what doesn't work. Pretty quickly, though, with just a bit of repetition and and timing, she'll figure it out. Then the extra behaviors will go away on their own. Bentley is going to learn several new commands over the next few days! You may not always have the time or ability to supervise your puppy, especially if you have other responsibilities to tend to. Crate training your puppy can provide a safe and secure space where they can relax, sleep, or play when you're not able to keep an eye on them. Crate training can prevent your puppy from getting into dangerous situations or chewing on things they shouldn't when you need to be busy. Crate training also aids in potty training! Potty training a puppy can be a time-consuming and frustrating process, but crate training can make it easier. By teaching your puppy to view their crate as their "den," you can help them develop the habit of holding their bladder and bowels until they're taken outside. This can reduce the number of accidents in the house and make the housebreaking process quicker and less stressful. Crate training can also be very convenient. If you need to run errands or leave the house for a short period of time, you can confine your puppy to their crate knowing they will be safe and secure until you return. This can give you peace of mind and reduce any anxiety or worry you may have about leaving your puppy alone.

Roxy the Mini Schnauzer did AMAZING during our last session together β€ Roxy started out as a very shy and nervous puppy, who'd bark and howl at new people and wouldn't let anyonoe besides her family near her. She thought that in order to make herself feel safe, she had to be big, loud, and terrifying. She used to be described as "aggressive" and was definitely dong a good job at being scary. But now, with some dedicated and loving work from her owner, Roxy is turning into a very sweet, confident girl <3 She's learning the world is actually a pretty safe and enjoyable place. And that the people in it don't want to hurt her; they just want to love her! WELL DONE to Roxy's owner. She wouldn't have come this far and done so well without her.
Here's a really good example of play cues, and calming signals. Muffin, the red dog, doesn't usually play with other dogs. She's historically "don't bother me, we'll be good friends" with almost every dog she's met (besides Corgi's...she loves Corgi's). She's a great teacher for dogs who want to play constantly and she's great at giving clear body language signals. Buster, on the other hand...he'll play happily with a rock. Since he started training, he's not given up trying to entice Muffin to play. And he's actually gotten her interested a few times! He sometimes doesn't know when to stop, though. The best teacher of dog etiquette is other dogs. And Muffin is a good teacher of "Stop, I'm done". In the video, Muffin seems to be mildly amused by Buster's antics, but obviously doesn't want to play. She offers multiple calming signals such as looking away, panting, licking her lips, avoidance, and being still. And the occasional growl or grumble if Buster gets too persistent. Buster obviously wants to play! Wiggly body language, jumping and springing, wagging his tail high, classic play crouch, jerky silly movements...but it's all for naught π . Muffin says nope.
Leave-it is such a useful skill to teach to your dog. It can save them from consuming dangerous substances (such as chocolate, dropped pills, mouse poison) and stop them from picking up unwanted items to chew. In our minds, when we're working on Leave-it, the concept we're trying to teach our dogs is "Delayed Gratification", which is the ability to delay an immediate reward to get a better reward later. This behavior can take a while to grow because the idea of waiting for something better is a foreign concept for most dogs. Dogs tend to live in the moment, reacting and interacting with what's happening right now, so asking them not to eat that really yummy hotdog that's right under their nose...and wait for something better...doesn't make much sense. To help this behavior flourish, we start very small and basic and make the choice to wait a "no duh" by rewarding with a treat that is soooo much better than what the dog is being asked to ignore (aka, leave the cheerio, get a piece of bacon. Yep, no duh ;) ) Start small until your dog seems to understand that, if they wait and listen, they'll get something better. Happy Training! www.happytailsdog.training
Mental enrichment and exercise is SO IMPORTANT Did you know 30 minutes of mental exercise for your dog can equal a 2-hour walk? Yeah, until I started training dogs, I didn't know that either! Mental exercise is the idea of working your dog's mind over their body. Here's a real-life example for you: Have you ever sat at a desk all day, doing busywork or crunching numbers, and when you come home all you want to do is take a nap or watch a movie because you're EXHAUSTED? You're bone-tired but you've hardly moved for hours. The same concept can be applied to dogs! Give them a puzzle to solve, a task to think about, or a challenge that makes them problem solve, and you've got some mental exercise. Mental exercise includes things like... π Trick training π Food puzzles π Problem solving skills π Impulse control games π Enrichment activities π Dog sports And it can be as simple as having your dog eat their morning meal out of an empty box! If you'd like FREE Mental Enrichment master sheet, comment below :) Happy training, guys!
CLIENT BRAG! Karen's puppy Lucie LOVES to go outside! She can't wait to get out there and chase the leaves, sniff the grass, say hi to all the people on the sidewalk! But the problem is...when she's outside Lucie could care less about Karen. She doesn't come when she's called...especially when there's no leash. Getting her back to the house is a stressful challenge. She PULLS and CHOKES herself on their walks because she's SO EXCITED to be out in the world! And it's all Karen can do to get her attention. Once Lucie gets outside, her listening and learning ears come off and she's as wild as they come! Karen just wished Lucie would listen outside so they could enjoy their time together... So today we started the process to make that happen! DID YOU KNOW, how you exit the house with your dog will often determine how your dog will behave outside? A rushed, pushy, pully exit might predict a rushed, pushy, pully walk! You can forget about bonding with your dog; he has more imortant things to do than listen to you! But a calm, polite, mannerly exit, your puppy is ready to listen, they're focused on you. You can look forward to a fun and relaxing time with your dog. Good job Karen, and good job Lucie!
CLIENT BRAG!!! Have I told you before how much I πLOVEπ the people and dogs I work with? Because I really do! LORI has been so on top of her game the past few weeks and the results are pouring in with her puppy, Wicket! This week we learned about polite guest greetings and automatic placing so Lori can relax when people come over...instead of worrying about Wicket jumping up, barking, licking feet and faces, and being an over-all nutcase π And the best part...Would you believe me if I told you Wicket learned this behavior in 10 MINUTES??? π Unless I saw it happen, I wouldn't have believed it myself!
