They LOVEEE their mealworm treatsš if your Chickens need some treats we have some cups leftāŗļø
Living on a farm with animals is not always sunshine and warm fuzzy feelings. a few weeks ago I left the farm for a quick town run. my chickens were free ranging as usual, I was gone MAYBE 20 minutesā¦
When driving back up the driveway I see a bird standing very close to my chicken coop and no chickens in sight. As we got closer I was devastated to see a yard full of feathers and a hawk standing on one of my babiesā¦. I wasļæ¼ļæ¼ relieved to see she was still alive but not in the best shape.
Over the next few days Everytime I walked in the barn to check on her in the baby brooder I dreaded to look thinking this was the time she would be lifeless- but she toughed it out. After a few days in ICU trying to get some head swelling down, hand watering her and feeding her, I started trying to help her get her balanced back with a little psychical therapy. She was extremely top heavy and would fall forward.
After a few days of her little therapy sessions She was walking around the shop on her own, she was still a little top heavy and her tail was showing obvious balance issues but she started progressing daily!! Today She is back with her flock and even better walking around the yard free ranging as if nothing happened. You wouldnāt even know she was hawk baitā¤ļø Im beyond happy to see her running around the farm again scratching and eating.
We have NEVER had a hawk problem before and I hope we can keep it that wayā¤ļø
Never give up on your birds even when the odds pile on against youā¤ļø
Whatās farm life really like?
This pretty much sums it upš
