❄️🍪 Sugar Cookie needs a home! 🍪❄️

We rescued this little girl from the shelter yesterday after she was locked inside an abandoned home and spent a week at the shelter. She was heavily matted and urine stained 💔 so we rushed her straight to Sit Stay Splash - Self Service Dog Wash - our favorite place to pamper our dogs! 🛁

Sugar Cookie is a very petite girl and only around 35lbs. They estimated her to be around 1.5 years old, but she seems like a puppy to us! 🐶 She’s super friendly, great with other dogs and very energetic. So far, she has had some accidents and (which is expected on day 1 and when she came from a home that didn’t care about her) so we need a foster home that will help her with that.

She is in North Tampa currently (Odessa/Land O Lakes area) and would do best with a fenced yard or a community that has a dog park, but we are open. Fosters have the first chance to adopt, all supplies are provided and you must be within an hour of Tampa or Sarasota.

Everyone say hi to our cowboy duo Woody and Jessie!

Woody and Jessie are approximately eight month old puppies who we believe to be Weimaraner mixes. A couple months ago, a Good Samaritan stumbled upon a pair of silver puppies in the middle of Apalachicola National Forest who’d very clearly been on their own a long time. The puppies were literally skin and bones and would not have survived much longer in the forest. They were brought to the rural shelter in the area, who unfortunately was dealing with an extreme Parvovirus outbreak. The shelter staff said given the condition the puppies were in, they’d be euthanized right away if they were left at the shelter. THANK HEAVENS a volunteer stepped in and took the puppies home and started working to get them healthy so that they could have a chance for a future. We were made aware of Woody and Jessie, and with the help of some awesome fellow Weim lovers, we were able to get the pups on the road to us in Sarasota.

To say that we are smitten with Woody and Jessie would be an understatement. Their personalities and confidence came as a surprise to us given how long they’d spent in the wild, but they are truly just the happiest and sweetest pups ever. They love all people and want every ounce of attention they can possibly get. They’ve been great with other dogs, but they especially love each other. While we do think they would be okay separated, we’d love to keep them together if we can. After all, they survived together! They are typical puppies who will need patience, training, and routine. Leashes are still a foreign thing to them but we are working on it with them. They both have a strong prey drive and would not do well with cats. They are on the smaller side and weigh around 35lbs currently.

Jessie is spayed and Woody is neutered, they’re microchipped, up to date on vaccines, Heartworm negative and ready to go home! They are fostered here with us at Camp L4P in Sarasota, Florida and their adoption fee is $350 individually or $500 for them as a pair. 😍 URGENT BEAGLE RESCUE! 😍

Late last night, we got an urgent call to help. There was a family in desperate need of rehoming their dogs 💔 They had a litter of 6 week old Beagle puppies and several adults, whom they had been hiding on a screened porch. We sensed the urgency and hit the road.

Our awesome volunteer Cathy wasted no time, loaded crates in her SUV and headed straight there. She loaded up a car full of sweet, happy beagles and let them sing her praises all the way down to Sarasota 😂 This sweet family was so grateful for the immediate help so that they didn’t lose their home and we are grateful that they trusted us with their dogs.

We love a good comeback story, and this guy is the definition of the comeback kid! 💪

Last week we shared our boy Dexter, a ten year old Dutch Shepherd who we’d recently taken in. We became aware of Dex a few weeks ago after one of our vet friends reached out asking if we could help him. Dex was in bad shape and she knew he needed our help. When Dexter arrived to his foster home, our hearts literally shattered. Bad shape really was an understatement - he was severely underweight, missing fur, covered in bloody sores, one of his ears had curled down to half its size due to infection, and his spirit was quite literally broken. He was just a shell of a dog, but we knew we could get him fixed up in time.

After only a day with us we started to get glimpses of the real Dexter - the Dexter who doesn’t spend his entire life in a crate, the Dexter who is loved and cared for, the Dex we knew he could be. We have thrown every possible resource his way, and he truly is a different dog now. He is still on his healing journey - his skin has a ways to go and he still needs to gain about 10lbs - but he is LIGHTYEARS better than he was when we first met him. And so much of that is thanks to the generous donations from our L4P family! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Dex is a very typical Dutchie, and please do not let his age fool you into thinking he’s just an old boy. He absolutely needs a family with experience with Dutchies, Mals, or other high energy, high drive working breeds. Dexter is not the dog for a first time dog owner, and we are in no rush to place him until we find the perfect family for him. He would do best as an only dog unless his family has the ability to give him individual attention. He is not a big fan of small children, but would be fine with late elementary school aged kids or older. Absolutely no cats or other small prey-like animals.

How could you possibly not love a red puppy?! Especially a red puppy named RED!! 😍😍😍

Red is a six month old hound mix, often referred to as a Florida brown dog, who joined the L4P family earlier this week! We were made aware that Red had been sitting in a shelter for a month, and one of our foster families jumped at the opportunity to welcome him into their home and get his life officially set on the track to happiness!

This handsome boy is rather submissive, and while he LOVES to play with other dogs, he is very respectful of their boundaries. Red can be shy with new people at first, but he warms up quickly and wants to soak up every ounce of love he can find. We are so excited to see Red continue to grow and flourish and we know he is going to make some family so so happy! ❤️❤️

Meet Ernest! 😍

Who doesn’t love a velvety soft Schnoodle? 🖤 This boy is the best. He loves other dogs, is very playful and very affectionate. He’s a big teddy bear 🧸

Ernest doesn’t climb up on furniture, he’s content laying at your feet. However, he will lay his head on your lap and gaze up at you with his dreamy brown eyes wanting love and attention 🥰 He loves his crate and is house trained.

This big boy is 62lbs, estimated at 2-3 years old, likely a Giant Schnauzer and Standard Poodle mix. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm negative. He has not been tested with kids or cats, but would likely be fine with older kids. His adoption fee is $400 and he is in Clearwater.

UPDATE: Foster homes found!

❄️ WARM HOMES NEEDED! ❄️

On this chilly morning, we have two dogs in desperate need of warm, loving homes. They both found themselves in need last night and our volunteers raced to pick them up.

The first one is Nikki 🥹 Nikki is a 17 year old Labradoodle, who was being given away for free online yesterday. Yes, she is 17 😭 She had been with her owner since she was 6 weeks old, he became ill and a friend was helping to rehome her. She’s about 35-40lbs, thin as most seniors are, but still gets around good, pays no attention to other dogs and is very loving. She needs a retirement home ❤️‍🩹

Then we have a little matted boy. He’s been seen walking the streets on and off for months and carries huge painful mats that weigh almost as much as him. We’ll have those off today! 🛁 He’s about 12-15lbs, super friendly, super snuggly, gives kisses, isn’t a barker so far and great on a leash. Coming from a big dog person, he’s a gem of a little dog! Let’s spoil him like he deserves ❤️

‘Tis the season to be T H A N K F U L ❤️

After a day like today, thankful doesn’t even begin to describe how we feel. We are exhausted after an amazing, fun filled day of spending time with our friends, rescue dogs, meeting new people and raising money to SAVE MORE DOGS! 🙌🏼

Gina and her son Nico, owners of Office Bar SRQ, and our new friends at Good Boy Vodka, raised $2,600 for our rescue today! 🥳🐶🎉 We are still in shock! 😭

We had Piper, Simba, Bailey, Pansy, Petunia, Dusty & Ranger with us today and are so glad their foster parents brought them out.

UPDATE: The two black male poodles were given to a rescue closer to the shelter so that they can leave today. *** the Goldendoodle has found a foster. Thank you all!!!

‼️ WE NEED HELP! ‼️

These two male poodles were dumped in the woods in north Florida. They are now at a small, very rural shelter that has NO HEAT and it’s expected to be 33 degrees tonight and 36 degrees tomorrow night there. They will be on a cold concrete floor 😭

They have a transporter who can get them halfway to us and we’re trying to arrange picking them up, but we have nowhere for them to go!

Talk about a stunner….HELLLLOOOO Ranger!! 😍🤩😍🤩

Ranger is a beautiful three year old male German Shorthaired Pointer who ended up needing rescue after his family’s dynamic changed. We jumped at the opportunity to help this sweet boy and we could not love him more if we tried!

Ranger is a lover of all people – he’s never met a stranger and he thinks everyone should be his friend. He’s fine with kids, but kids would definitely need to be accustomed to high energy dogs. He loves other dogs, however he would also be fine as an only dog. Cats are an absolute no for Ranger as his prey drive is extreme and cats would not be safe. He is crate trained, house trained, and walks just ok on a leash - he definitely could use some work on this. Ranger loves to be outside and needs a home with a fenced yard so he can lizard hunt and burn off his zoomies. He would do best with an active family, and we are looking for one with experience with GSPs, Weimaraners, or other similar high energy breeds. Ranger loves to accompany his people on any and all adventures he can be included in and loves to go on car rides. He is nervous with thunder and other loud noises, but it just makes him want to cuddle his people even more.

Ranger is now neutered, microchipped, up to date on vaccines, and Heartworm negative. He is fostered in Punta Gorda, Florida and his adoption fee is $400. We weren’t kidding when we said it was raining labs here at L4P….everyone meet Clarke! 😍

Clarke is a BIG seven year old chocolate lab who landed in our care earlier this week. And when we say big, we mean big. Clarke is very overweight and weighs over 100 pounds. He has officially started a boot camp diet with his foster family, and we’d love to see him lose about 20 pounds to make things easier on his joints and bones in the long run and to allow him to live a longer, healthier, and happier life.

Clarke gets along with pretty much everyone and previously lived with both a cat and a small breed dog. He does not understand his size, so those around him need to be aware that he is clueless to how big he is, but he is a very nice boy. Clarke isn’t a big fan of being left alone so he would do best in a home where he isn’t alone for large periods of time regularly. He just wants to be with his people!! Clarke is house trained and crate trained. He is very strong on a leash and needs an owner willing to work with him in that aspect.

Clarke unfortunately was very far behind in vet care when we took him in. His vet care has begun and he will be neutered and have a dental done the second week in December - he will be all ready to go after that! This Thanksgiving we are thankful for our dogs, adopters, fosters, our team, and all of our supporters. But we are feeling extra thankful to have had the opportunity this week to take in the saddest, sweetest 10 year old Dutch Shepherd we’ve ever met and we just had to share him with our L4P family.

Everyone meet Dexter, an old boy who’s had a rough go of it. Dexter is very thin, his skin is a wreck, and he needs quite a bit of medical care to get him back to fighting shape. But guess what?! WE WILL GET HIM THERE! Dexter, who also answers to Doodle, has spent the majority of his life lately in a crate which is no way for any dog to live, but especially not a Dutchie. Our heart breaks for this boy, but we’ve got big plans for his future and we can’t wait to share his progress with you all! We know Dex will be back to a champion in no time!!
