We are so thankful for all the help and kindness we received after Hurricane Milton! We want to give a huge shout-out to the Cardinal Mooney Equestrian Club members who came out to work side by side with some of our own riding students on 10/14 to clean up our stables and groom storm sullied equines so we could bring our horses back home. Everyone pulled together to get a tough job done. Thanks to Jeanne Schiebel, the Eq, club director, for reaching out at our time of need and for being hands-on in the clean-up effort.

We hope that everyone came through the storm safely. The Riding Academy has sustained a great deal of damage. All of the horses ponies and petting zoo animals are fine. We lost a couple of the outbuildings, including one shed row that was housing three horses. (of course they were not in there at the time) The roof on the main barn was torn off on both ends and the back barn also lost roofing. We have lots of fences down from trees falling on them and plenty of trees laying everywhere. Our sons and some of their wonderful friends came in yesterday and started the cleanup, but there is a lot to do and they all have their own damage to deal with.
All of our working horses are housed in Dr. Wadi Gomero-Cure’s barn across the street. He was extremely gracious to allow us to put our horses there to keep them safe from the storm. if any of you are available to help there is a lot to do. 💕🐎💕

We sincerely hope that all our family, friends, student families and everyone in the path of hurricane Milton come through the storm safely. We are doing the best we can to keep our animals safe. It’s always hard to know what to do at a time like this. There are many difficult decisions to make. Praying we all come through it. Please be ready to help each other as needed. 💕💕💕💕🙏🙏🙏

Lesson season is starting soon. Get ready to dedicate yourselves to your riding lesson schedule….

I had someone ask me this week why attendance is one of the factors that affects scheduling.

I thought it was an odd question, because it has a pretty simple answer...open lesson times don't pay bills. So scheduling someone who isn't going to show up regularly isn't a good business decision.

But it really goes deeper than that.

One of the most profound lessons that horses teach us is commitment. Commitment to caring for them, commitment to bettering ourselves, and commitment to setting goals and achieving them.

If you aren't attending the lessons you scheduled (horseback riding or any other sport) regularly, you're missing this point. Your progress will be minimal and you'll end up frustrated.

Holding space for someone who isn't committed to that space will suck the life right out of you. (Read that twice, because it applies every single day of your life). It isn't just a financial drain. It's tough to get excited to teach someone who isn't committed to learning.

So yes, I'm going to schedule riders who are committed to learning and who attend regularly first. Their enthusiasm keeps me going when the day is kicking my butt. They remind me that this purpose is far bigger than just what is happening in the arena.
