🐾✨ Throwback Purrsday: Salvador Dalí & His Purrfectly Wild Muse ✨🐾

Did you know that surrealist master Salvador Dalí had a pet ocelot named Babou? Dalí took Babou everywhere—from fancy restaurants to luxury ocean liners—turning heads with his exotic feline companion. He even once convinced a fellow diner that Babou was just a “normal house cat painted in an op-art pattern.” Classic Dalí! 🎨🐆

Here in St. Pete, we’re lucky to have The Dalí Museum, a world-class tribute to the artist’s boundary-pushing creativity—just a short drive from Cat Depot! While Babou was truly one-of-a-kind, we think Dalí would have also appreciated the whimsical, quirky, and endlessly charming rescue cats waiting for homes right here.

Lenny and Squiggy are two sweet 1-year-old cats who were abandoned after Hurricane Milton. A kind stranger took them in but was unable to find their original owner. They are looking for a new home as a pair.

Cat Depot's 5th Annual Student Writing Contest is happening NOW ✏️📓

From 2/10/25-3/21/25, Pre-K-High School students in Sarasota and Manatee Counties are invited to write a short story, poem, play, comic book, or other type of writing.

Submissions can be about a personal pet, a famous animal, how to care for a pet, a pet hero, a story about animal kindness, or any other positive animal-related piece. This can include how pets are beneficial, how service animals help people, or an animal that has done something amazing.

One winner will be selected from each grade level. These winners will be invited to read their stories to the kitties at Cat Depot!

Overall TOP THREE winners will win a Cat Depot Swag Bag!

🎉🐾 Cat Depot's Free Spay/Neuter Day 🐾🎉

Cat Depot adopter and local Girl Scout, Maddie, has worked tirelessly on her Gold Award Project. Her project focuses on the importance of all pet owners having access to free or low-cost spay/neuter for their pets.

Her efforts led to the Venice City Council and Mayor Nick Pachota issuing a proclamation earlier this week that February 25, 2025, was to be recognized as World Spay Day and the month of February as Spay/Neuter Awareness Month throughout the City of Venice.

To celebrate Maddie's work, Cat Depot will be hosting a free Spay/Neuter Day on Tuesday, February 25 for personally-owned pets residing in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

Spaces are extremely limited and are available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Appointments can and must be reserved in advance by contacting Cat Depot's Cat Care Clinic at (941) 366-2287 (CATS).

Happy Senior Cat Saturday from 8-year-old Bubba! 🤎

Bubba is a sweet older cat who is mellow and calm. He will let you pick him up, and he especially loves chin rubs and napping in a warm sunbeam.

Bubba is FIV+ which stands for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus. It is a fairly common immune deficiency, and life with an FIV+ cat life can be completely normal for both human caregivers and for any potential feline housemates. Just like any other cat, Bubba can live a long and healthy life when given plenty of love and support from his furever family.

✈️🐾 : Who knew one of the earliest aviators had a cat as a wingman? 🚀🐾

Meet Mademoiselle Fifi, later renamed Miss Paris-London, the fearless feline co-pilot of aviator John Moisant! This high-flying tabby took to the skies 14 times, including a historic flight across the English Channel in 1910. Moisant adored Fifi, even customizing his plane with a built-in litter box and sisal-wrapped seats for her comfort. 😺💨

After Moisant’s tragic plane crash in December 1910, Fifi never flew again. She was even photographed at his funeral, draped in mourning attire—a truly heart-wrenching tribute to her beloved pilot. 🖤🐾 From her sky-high adventures to a solemn farewell, Miss Paris-London remains one of history’s most legendary flying felines. 🏅🐱
