DOG RESCUE UPDATE! The pups all had a wonderful night's sleep and are finishing their initial medical assessments today. We are so happy to see them relaxing with one another!

Donations of towels, flat sheets, large thick blankets/comforters, medium to large sized dog beds, and puppy training pads are also being accepted. Items can be delivered to the collection boxes located outside of Cat Depot's main entrance daily from 10am to 6pm.
Following Hurricane Debby, Hamilton County Animal Control responded to a call for assistance. Upon arrival, they found 20 dogs needing immediate assistance. Their elderly owner had fallen gravely ill and needed to be taken to a medical center for treatment leaving the dogs with no one to care for them.
The dogs, who all require medical care, needed to be removed from the property as soon as possible. Hamilton County Animal Control in conjunction with Florida State Animal Response Coalition (FLSARC) and the Florida Association of Animal Welfare Organizations (FAAWO) reached out to Cat Depot for assistance.
Odd pairing, right? Well, after exploring many options for placement, Steve, FLSARC Manager, remembered that Cat Depot’s Community Center would be a perfect location to temporarily house the dogs while they underwent their initial medical exams and behavioral assessments. And with that, Cat Depot has now officially “gone to the dogs!”
Stay tuned for details as 11 of the 20 dogs arrived at Cat Depot the evening of August 15th. The remaining dogs will be transported to Cat Depot over the next few days. We are so excited to share this journey with you as they embark on their new lives!

On August 21st, learn the art of watercolor! In this class, our instructor will walk you through the basics of watercolor painting and explore a variety of techniques. You'll paint on artisan cold press watercolor paper with fun step by step guidance.

The last Saturday of every month we host our Community Food Bank. The pictures show what the food supply looked like before and after our July Community Food Bank.
We had a record number with over 95 individuals show up needing supplies for community and personal cats for our June Food Bank. Cat Depot has fed more than 86,300 thousand cats since 2014 through this program!
However, we cannot do this without support and donations. We are nearly out of wet food!

Patches is a calm, affectionate 5-year-old cat who loves cheek rubs, playtime, and lounging on the lanai. Her favorite spot to be petted is at the base of her tail, and she'll go into full 'downward-facing-dog' pose to encourage you to keep going!

Did you know we often take kitties on nursing home visits?
These visits are great because it allows seniors the ability to interact with kitties and get some extra love while they do. It is also great for us because we get to learn so much about our cats during these visits.
Studies have shown that spending time with a cat can actually lower stress levels, reduce anxiety, and even alleviate some symptoms of depression.
So, you should make it a point to spend more time with cats this year, we know we will!

🎉 MS. JACKSON IS FINALLY HOME 🎉
Our longest resident, Ms. Jackson, found her way home yesterday after 522 days of waiting and just in time for Christmas in July!
Ms. Jackson was rescued from a hoarding case in Mississippi last February in conjunction with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS). She was only three years old when rescued and because of her background she has some issues trusting new people.
Ms. Jackson watched many cats come and go, including the 17 other cats Cat Depot rescued from Mississippi. Throughout her time at the shelter, our staff has become her family, offering comfort, care, and patience. While our staff deeply loved Ms. Jackson, she always had a special connection with one of our amazing employees.
And we are so excited to announce that Ms. Jackson now has a warm, loving forever home with Dakota!
The good news does not end there, as Cat Depot wants to give a huge thank you to the HSUS for their continued support. From spearheading the Mississippi Rescue, to supporting Ms. Jackson even further by spoiling her with everything a cat could imagine on her adoption day. Ms. Jackson was gifted a huge cat tree along with many pet care essentials!
