ATTEMPT TO LOCATE MISSING HORSE: Between January 9, 2025, at 4:35 p.m. and January 10, 2025, at 9:30 a.m., the grey mare (female horse) pictured below went suspiciously missing from a residence in the 30600 block of Betts Rd in Myakka City.

Deputies have searched surrounding areas, but the horse has not been located. Anyone with information is asked to call Sergeant Robert Hendrickson at (941) 737-1614 or email [email protected].

💉 The literal “shot heard round the world”. It sounds like a horse received Flunixin or Banamine intramuscularly on an episode of last night? We would like to remind everyone that despite being labeled for intra-muscular use, horses should only ever receive this drug orally or intra-venously. Something that the folks at Yellowstone would need to be on the lookout for after this misplaced administration would be signs of gas and swelling under the neck or a painful injection site. Administering IM banamine to a horse can cause clostridial myositis and can lead to a serious infection that requires surgical and antibiotic intervention. Despite intervention, these infections can be fatal.

For all my horse and livestock people

If you are in a flood zone - please plan to evacuate your animals now

There are ear tags available online - Amazon arrival by Tuesday or TS Bradenton still has some in stock, believe Wauchula/Arcadia too, Sarasota is out

Livestock marking sticks - available at TS Sarasota (did not check others yet) and Amazon

The lightweight yellow plastic chain can be put around the horses neck attached with a zip tie or carabiner. It breaks easily enough if entangled. Makes the animal more visible upon search and you can attach ID.

Nail polish phone number on hooves has worked well in the past.

Be safe everyone

I also advise fly mask as well - especially if animals are out side

Take update images of your animals - especially after being tagged - make sure to get any special markings.

I am prepping my facility and our home the next few days - but will do my best to point anyone in the right direction.

Do not wait till last minute - rescuing large animals from flooding is not easy and it is a long road to recovery ❤️
