Alpha Dressage off to a great start in 2025 -- We had a great Alpha Dressage Schooling Show this past weekend with the renowned Bill Woods as our judge. Great opportunity for riders to get some extra input from Bill after their last ride. The schooling show was hard on the heels of our wonderful dressage clinic with Lauren Sprieser the prior weekend. The clinic had 11 rides on Saturday and 10 rides on Sunday with lots of auditors too. The combination of Lauren Sprieser and use of the covered arena at The Stables at TerraNova was a real win. The Stables at TerraNova could not have been more welcoming and gracious with us. We hope to get Lauren back again early in 2026! Block out your calendar now.
Thanks to all the riders, trainers and volunteers that help keep Alpha Dressage going. We are here for you - so let us know if you have ideas for our meetings, clinics and shows. Hope to post photos from both events soon. And hope to see you at our next meeting or event.

Entries are OPEN for the Lauren Sprieser Clinic on January 4 & 5 sponsored by Alpha Dressage. We are very excited to host Lauren at the beautiful TerraNova Equestrian Center. Riders must sign up and pay through thepegasus.app - and we are asking auditors to do that as well. Pegasus is a new online show entry and management software program. So, if you have any problems with registering, please reach out on the 24-7 Chat help (they have helped me a lot!). Also please let me know if you are having problems - I am in touch with the head honcho. Looking forward to seeing everyone at what is going to be a great clinic to start out the new year 2025!

Come join us for a very informative meeting October 9th at the Fruitville Library, 6:00 pm. We will have a brief meeting followed by our guest speaker Sherry Seals. Sherry will be bringing 2 to 3 saddles with her, a western, hunt seat and dressage saddle and we will be performing a saddle necropsy! We will be tearing the saddles apart and learning about the different components of the saddle and the materials used to construct them. You will get to see what is inside of a saddle first hand! If you have a saddle that you are concerned about, please bring it along. Sherry will be happy to open it up and analyze it. We hope to see you there. Thank you to all the Exhibitors and Volunteers that made the show on Sunday a huge success! It was great to see so many new horses and riders attending our show. And it was so nice to see so many Junior riders! Congratulations to everyone and to our high point riders, Robin Sego, Nikita Marcel, Brenda Morrow and Lauren Merchant.

Our next show will be on October 27 and is judged by Charlotte Trentelman. This will be our annual Halloween show. There will be costume classes as well as the Freaky Freestyles! We hope to see you all there. This is one of our most popular shows so get those entries in early! The opening date for that show is September 28th so you still have time to get your costumes put together!

As always, we will be in need of volunteers for the show. If you can spare some time to help out, please reach out to Mandy Peterson.

ALPHA DRESSAGE GENERAL MEETING
Alpha's next meeting will be this coming Thursday, April 25 at 6:00 pm. It will be at Robin Sego's home in Myakka City. Our speaker will be Issy Moody. She is an equine massage therapist and will be demonstrating on Robin's horses. Alpha will be providing a light dinner and drinks. If you are planning on attending, please bring your own chair and RSVP to [email protected] to get the address and gate code.

So nice to hear support for local schooling shows. Our Alpha Dressage schooling shows are still going strong after over 50 years. We try to bring fun into our shows with fun classes like a Halloween Freestyle Costume class and other costume classes for riders and unmounted. I'd love to hear more ideas of how other schooling shows provide that extra something to competitors - glad to hear about White Fences allowing coaching in some classes. What are others doing that is different and adds fun and opportunity at their schooling shows? Let us know.

One of the many things I love about dressage is what I loved about local sprint-distance triathlons: There’s a level, and a competition, for everyone.

And for many, that level is schooling shows.
