Oden’s First Day
Our newest pack member, Oden, had a bunch of fun meeting the pack this morning. Davos and Hudson were super excited to welcome him in!
Snow Day! April 4th, 2024
Another spring snowstorm brought us lots of snow, and now lots of slush. Thankfully we were able to get a lot of playtime in before the snow started to melt. The pack sure loves all the extra snowballs!
Snowy Spring!
The pack is loving the surprise Spring snowstorm, but we’ll be honest, we weren’t expecting this much snow! Thankfully, we have a bunch of helpers that are eager to help “shovel” with us.
Happy National Puppy Day!!!

Everyone’s happiest when the sun is out!
Many ask what is healthy play. Here is a video of fun, respectful and healthy play....enjoy!
Stay.....Opie showed me that he was having trouble with his down stay at Playcare yesterday. To help him to become more confident, I'm going to practice his down stay where he is confident with his sit stay. He did a great job....I'm taking the time that it takes. I'm happy with his progress at 6 1/2 months 🥰.
Stay, Stay and more Stay!
Opie is learning to go onto his place. We call it, The Placemat Game. Once Opie really understands what it means to go to his place, I will work on his down stay there. Eventually I will ask him to go to his place, lay down and stay there until I release him. However, we have a long way to go....Good job, Opie <3!
Brit is working on having Charlie stay while she throws a ball. This is so hard for him....but he's ready for it. I started practicing this with a leash on him to ensure his stay.....as he became more confident in his stay, I took the leash off. This all helps develops a strong stay for when he is wearing his Service Dog vest.
Simple Training
Opie is getting really good at connecting when someone (Kevin) is asking him to practice going through a door properly and respectfully. It’s so rewarding to watch him grow 💕!
Walking two isn't always easy for us humans or for our dogs....LOL!
I love how Britt is helping Opie get stronger with his DOWN/STAY as she is taking him outside. This is how busy people train! Win/win!!
In yesterday's video Opie told us that he needs more confidence with the Down Game and the Stay Game. Brit was kind enough to make this video at Doggy Playcare just to get a little practice in. Good Job Opie!
What to do when your dog is struggling with what you're asking.
Opie left Charlie for Brittany who played the Name Game! HUGE 🥰!
In this vid, Brit is playing The Name Game from a distance. Opie's recall has become pretty strong without too many distractions. We play it a lot inside the house which helps develop muscle memory and a stronger recall outside the house.
If I want Opie to pay attention to me or who is handling him, he has to be able to listen with distractions. Monster Man is the best distraction.....he steals all of the toys and then barks. Today Brit is playing the Name Game (with the marker word, "Yes") and then giving Opie a treat with the same marker word, "Yes". Opie is doing a great job!
We are starting to play with Opie's down stay. While I'm out of town, Britt is working with him. She is asking for a simple down stay so Opie can be successful. This silly little game will someday turn into a down stay under a table while Opie is working some sort of service. One baby step at a time.
