Love you Merlin.

We are devastated to announce the passing of our beloved Dr. Van Zee. Not only was he an incredibly skilled, talented and compassionate Veterinarian, but a best friend, mentor, confidant and supreme lover of dad jokes. Our hearts are shattered. We will miss him being a leader of our team, his laugh and his ability to make anyone feel welcome and special. He laughed with us, cried with us, prayed with us and cared for us… we truly are a family here at Summer Street. We have lost our “brother”.

As we try to navigate the days and weeks ahead, please keep his wife, Magon, and their family in your prayers along with our Doctors and staff. Please grant us some grace and patience as we mourn our great loss. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. We hope that we make him proud by continuing to pour our hearts into the work we do and the care we provide our patients… and the dad jokes we come up with.

We love and miss you, Merlin. 💚

Heartbroken as I learned the news of a great friend, classmate and veterinarian who took his own life. Su***de is all too common in our veterinary profession. is an organization raising awareness. Please be kind and understanding to your veterinary staff who have dedicated their lives to you and your pets. We love you Merlin.
