Hello everyone, it’s been awhile!

With the chaos of life lately and some personal health issues I have been battling, we haven’t been posting very frequently and for that I apologize. Thankfully because of donations we received earlier in the year we haven’t needed a whole lot ❤️

We are still closed for intake, and will be for awhile yet.

However, we are now running low on food and supplies and have a few bills for the rescue coming up that we could really use help with! We also desperately need a new doggy door as our old one has broken. (See our Amazon wishlist)

Dog food wise we are in need of 4Health Salmon and sweet potato dry dog food. (Unfortunately there is not a way for us to create a wishlist through Tractor supply)
We are going through ONE 50lb bag of food a week right now, and the cost per bag is about $45.

This food has been the best for the senior and special needs pups in our care, and we would really like to keep them on it!

If you are able contribute to help us purchase
some more food and needed supplies you may send a monetary donation to our PayPal:

Our PayPal username is:
[email protected]

Or you may purchase supplies directly off our Amazon wishlist using this link, which will ship right to us:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/185PU9V6HLOL9?ref_=wl_share

If you would like to contribute to our rescue efforts monthly to help us stay on top of bills, you may sign up to do so using the following Patreon link:

Here is a current list of the dogs in our care right now:

Toby
Elvis
Pixie
Chip (not pictured)
Theodore
Millie
Winston (Hospice not technically adoptable)
And Brian

If you are interested in any of the dogs pictured below and would like more information, please visit our website to fill out an application or message us!

Thank you so much for your continued support, we can’t do what we do without all of you!

With the 4th of July coming up, please be mindful of your pets. Shelters end up with an abundance of stray dogs (and sometimes cats), coming in the entire week surrounding the 4th. Please keep your dogs (and cats) in a quiet, safe and secure place. (Also a good time to get a pet microchipped to ensure they get home faster).

Adoptable duo alert! Rare opportunity to find these sweet breeds in rescue. Parker is a 9 year old golden retriever and Onyx is a 9 year old British lab - they are both GOOD BOYS and they know it! Super friendly, playful, sweet, love people, lots of tail wags. They have been together lifelong and will need to remain together. Don’t let their age fool you - they are active dogs that will need an active owner who can take them on walks and help Onyx lose some weight. They are well loved by their owners who can no longer care for them due to health issues. We are looking forward to finding a family that can continue that love.

Thank you all for your support! Koby's Promise is back on our feet and we started taking in rescues last month.

Currently we have 10 dogs & 8 cats in our care:
*6 adoptable dogs: Brian, Toby, Theodore, Milly, Elvis & Pixie (a bonded pair)

*4 adoptable cats: Copper, Stevie, Midnight & Luna.

*2 special needs/hospice dogs:
-Clyde, a 16yo Boxer mix, was one of our Therapy dogs pre-COVID and is now just being spoiled as we manage his old age/end of life
issues.

-Winston, 14yo, is one of the 14 Miniature Poodle mix pups abandoned in Kent County in Dec 2021. He has been with us for 18 months with no adoption or foster interest. He is 99% blind due to cataracts. Winston is a happy, healthy, blind pup who still has so much love to give.

*2 special needs/hospice cats:
-Tilly, who has severe dental disease & is in kidney failure.

-Charley, has a slew of issues & will be assessed by the vet next week.

*2 dogs in our Koby's Companion (KC) Program:
-Peaches,who originally ended up in a shelter due to her family not being able to care for her skin issues. She has been Belinda's loving companion for the last year.

-Chip (one of the Kent county poodles) has recently joined Pamala and her family, he is the 4th dog she has fostered for us since in the KC program since 2018. Pamala has recently had another stroke, having a furry companion has been instrumental in her recovery.

*2 cats in our Koby's Companion (KC) Program:

-Carl and Terri have been fostering cats since the program's inception 6 years ago. They came to us through our partnership with Meals On Wheels.
Mamasita is Carl's companion animal, and Carley lives with Terri.

Sadly we lost quite a few of our KC program human and dog participants since COVID. With the help of our Patreon supporters we hope to get this program back up to the level we were at in 2017 when we had 12 animals paired with seniors, veterans & persons with disabilities in our community.

Once again, thank you for your continuing support! We’re sorry it has taken so long to update everyone, but appreciate your patience as we navigated some difficult times ❤️

Pictures of the available pups are below, please email us with adoption inquiries and we will direct you to our application!

An application, Home visit, adoption fee and contract signing is required for every adoption.

🌟All of the animals in our care right now also need sponsors, please message us on Facebook to sign up as a sponsor! Sponsoring is $50 a month, and it works just like a subscription through Patreon.🌟

It’s been awhile since we have updated our Facebook followers, but we are doing well, we just have been super busy!

We use the following dog food for the dogs In our care:

We also need Pill pockets! Milkbone Pill pockets work the best!

If you are able to donate a bag or two, you can do so one of the following ways:

-Order it from Tractor supply and have it shipped to our door: 4140 65TH STREET, HOLLAND, MI, 49423

01-08-2022: PUPDATE

We pulled 6 of the pups who were in the worse condition on 12-30-2021. On 01-03-22 we pulled the last 8. There are 6 males and 8 females, ranging in age from 3 through 13 based on our vet's guesstimate.

All but 3 have been to the vet for intake exams, here is a brief summary.
- All are Heartworm NEGATIVE!!!!
- All need dentals
- All need to be spayed/neutered
- 4 have cataracts, one is mostly blind due to his catatacts
- 1 has a perineal hernia ( that makes 2 dogs with them in our care at the moment)
- at least 6 have umbilical hernias
- a few have low grade heart murmurs
- one has an enlarged heart

NONE of the pups are housebroken.

All of the pups are very loving and crave attention, they were well loved at some point in their lives. The do not mind being groomed/de-matted. They do not appear to be leash trained, do very well with other dogs & are non-reactive to cats.

If you are still interested in fostering &/or adopting, please complete an application on our website: www.KobysPromise.org

NOTE: Due to the high volume of applications and inquiries:
- We will close applications on these dogs at midnight EST on Sunday, Jan 9th.
- We will not be responding to individual questions, as we process your application, we will contact you with any questions.
- Please do not call the rescue to ask about the dogs or your application.

Yes, we have the miniature poodle mixes from the Kent County Animal Shelter. We will be posting more information after we have had vet examine them all.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering, please complete an application on our website, www.KobysPromise.org

They will not be on the drop down of available dogs until our vet is finished assessing them. The next step of the application asks if you are interested in a different animal, you can indicate your interest at that point.
Note: If your vet does not speak to us when we call, your application will go to the bottom of the pile. PLEASE let your vet know that it is OK to release your information to Koby's Promise.

Please share!

If you or someone you know is in need of pet food or supplies, this is a great resource.

Thank you Harbor Humane!

Tis the season of giving, and we'd like to celebrate by continuing to help keep families together, and pets happy and healthy - with Harbor Humane’s "Holidays at Home", pop-up pet food pantry!
Are you in need of pet supplies?
Our special "Holiday at Home" Pet Food Pantry will be held on Wednesday, December 22nd, from 2-5pm. This season and all year, we want to ensure every family has the means to care for their pets, and the ability to keep pets home with them, where they belong.

Join us at our food pantry warehouse at 100 North Aniline Road in Holland (just past Captain Sundae on Ottawa Beach Road) on 12/22 from 2-5pm. Available items will include dog and cat food (limited amounts of canned/wet), some small animal food and bedding, treats and some toys and other items at limited quantity.

As our mission is to help as many families and pets in need, we ask everyone be respectful of items requested (what you are truly in need of), and that we keep donations appropriate, per number of animals in the home (ie for a large dog, we would typically provide 1 large bag of dog food, 1-2 bags of treats, etc). The pantry is drive through, so when you arrive please line up accordingly, and wait for us to come to your car. If this is your first time utilizing our pantry, you will need to complete paperwork in your car while you wait. *If you need further assistance, visit our website to see numerous other resources Harbor can offer you and your pets!*

Huge thanks to our donors and partners who make it possible for us to support our community in such a huge way. We’re all in this together!

Happy Holidays to all of you (human and paws), from all of us here (human and paws). 🐾

🐾 01-14-22 PUPDATE: 💞Bentley has been adopted!!!!🥳

Are you in the market for a portable dishwasher?
🔸️Older model but still effective. 🔸️Doubles as a loving lap warmer & companion.

This handsome senior, Bentley, was one of our first Koby's Companion placements. He came to us when his elderly mom could no longer care for him. He was placed with Lu & they were inseparable until Lu's health deteriorated last month. She called us in tears from the hospital and asked us to find him a new mom to care for.

Bentley is a whopping 4 lbs, UTD, cat & dog friendly. P*e pad trained, but would prefer to go for walks to do his business outside. He is NOT neutered on the advice of our vet.

Available for adoption or Koby's Companion placement.

I'm so close to my goal with my Pampered Chef fundraiser for Koby's Promise and it closes tonight! I need 10 friends to grab a can opener to help me reach it. Or you can order something else you’ve been eyeing - those sales count for me, too!

This can opener is just $28 and is a smooth edge opener which means NO sharp edges, plus it has a 3-year warranty! Makes a great gift. My ordering link is below in the comments.

Thanks in advance.

Clyde is currently at the shelter Koby came from. Please share to find him a home.

Transferred to Shar Pei Nation Rescue, Inc. 501 c3 ❤❤❤

Hi, my name is Clyde. I'm about 10 years old and I'm looking for a new family. I'd love a home that is quiet so I can relax and enjoy the rest of my life.

I was nervous when I first arrived. But, in less than a week, though, I'm already giving kisses to my new human friends and am coming out of my shell! I seek out affection and want to be with them all the time. So, I'm asking if you will be patient with me while I adjust in your home. Once I feel safe, I'm the sweetest boy and I'm extremely loving, loyal and friendly.

I have some medical stuff that I'm hoping you will be okay with. Although I'm super handsome, which is what the humans here tell me, they say I have a few things going on...like I'm mostly blind. They think I can see shadows, though! I also have a pretty big tumor that will need to be removed once I am neutered. I'm sure you can see that I'm missing fur; the humans are hoping that a little extra TLC + a healthy diet will help my fur grow back.

If you are interested in adopting me, please be committed to making sure I am able to visit a vet when needed. My bloodwork was pretty unremarkable which is good! I do understand that may mean an extra financial commitment from you, but please know how forever grateful I would be.

In my previous home, I did great at being house-trained. Rarely did I ever have an accident. I also am crate-trained and am super chill when you leave me alone. I am a relatively easy-going and mild boy. So, a calm & quiet home would fit me perfectly. I also know how to sit, lay down and I walk nicely on a leash.

I have lived in a home with another dog before and am open to meeting yours if you have a dog that would be gentle with me. I also reacted nicely around kitties. As far as kiddos go, I did wonderful with the kiddos that I knew and was comfortable with. As of now, I think I would rather any kiddos be about 8ish and older, just until I acclimate.

I really like to chew on bones. I also love squeaky toys and going for walks. Will you adopt me "as is"? Basically, that means that down the road, I may receive medical news that isn't the happiest to receive but I may also receive medical news that isn't too bad at all for an older pup! I will be at Michiana Humane Society if you would like to come and meet me. Love, Clyde.

PLEASE have your pups on HW prevention all year.

We have been giving the ProHeart 12 injection to our fosters. 1 shot once a year & it is less expensive than the chewables. Check with your veterinarian to see if it is available in your area.

Once the dog tests HW+, the cost of treatment is about $1000 for a small dog. Costs vary by location and size of the dog.

The treatment is very hard on the dog, and keeping them on crate rest/exercise restriction for close to 6 months is hard on both the dog & the family. In the past 5 years we have treated at least 12 dogs, and we have lost 2.

🚨Foster Needed!🚨

Jack’s surgery went very well today!

Not only was his bad eye safely removed, but the vet was also able to remove some growths on his other eye lid and neuter him while he was under 🥰

However..... Jack did test positive for Heartworms and Lyme disease 😔 so this pups medical journey is going to last a few more months.

Kennel environment is a scary and stressful place for a newly visually impaired pup, so for right now he’s in our boarding kennel recovering from surgery!

❤️Let’s find him a Foster home!! ❤️

Jack tested well with cats today, and he has been good with other dogs!

So his foster home can have other pets, however, Jack needs time to heal and will need to be kept pretty calm during his heartworm treatment, so foster siblings that aren’t super rowdy would be perfect! Because Jack is newly visually impaired, he is VERY sensitive to fast movements, and yelps In pain if he even *Thinks* his injured eye is going to be bumped, so crazy kids in the home might not be a good idea right now.

Jack does need work with potty training, but that’s nothing a belly band can’t help with for him!!

We expect him to do well in a crate as well while his foster family is away from home.

He’s truly the perfect candidate if you have been thinking about fostering! However, he will need twice daily meds, and we need a foster who is local to our area, or Atleast within 20 mins of our vet, the Animal Clinic Of Holland.

To inquire about fostering Jack, please message us!

***At this time Jack is Not technically available adoption, but a Foster-to-adopt deal may be an option!***
