My dream was to have a store.
Ever since I was young, I wanted a store. As I got older and cared for more animals, I started to realize that Petsmart & Petco just weren’t carrying good products for them (and sometimes no products at all). The more I researched, the more I found out that by some estimates 50% of products offered in large commercial stores are blatantly inappropriate or even toxic to the pet that they’re advertised for. Isn’t that insane?! A lot of the rest were made as cheaply as possible just to be able to say that they meet certain standards, but were still very poor quality. There is actually relatively little regulation and oversight in the pet industry. On top of that, 50% of dog and cat food is owned and manipulated by just 2 companies who package up food under a bunch of different names and pretty designs, but it’s all a trick. This means that they get to greatly influence the market and tell us what’s best, based on what is best for them.
At Saugertails, I will do my best to guide you to better options. I will be honest with you; I do not believe there is any 1 “perfect” food or even 1 “best” food for cats or dogs (or any pet). I do not believe that there is any 1 perfect toy. Or harness. Or bed. Or bowl. Our pets are individuals, and they all are going to like different things. But I have chosen, to the best of my knowledge, safer, higher quality, and in a lot of cases much more unique inventory for you to choose from. And at the end of the day as long as they’re fed, sheltered, taken to the vet, and loved, I promise to never judge what you provide for them.
