Here's Roxy, a 7-month old Bullmastiff puppy, having a blood sample drawn for a pre-surgical health screening panel. Roxy has previously demonstrated high food-motivation and low FAS (fear/anxiety/stress), so we employed a simple food distraction technique, using spray cheese on a cabinet door. 🧀

Why we do what we do every day—we ❤️ our patients! Jerry was recently in for a dental cleaning and had several diseased teeth removed. Here he is recovering from his procedure and already feeling so much better. Anyone walking by his cage had to stop in for some headbutts and purrs! 😻
It’s Fear Free Friday and we’re showcasing our patients’ love of cheese ❤️🧀 Rhys came in for his very first visit with us last month and enjoyed a “cheese fish” while we collected a blood sample for his heartworm test. We were happy to make his first visit such a positive one!

This Fear Free Friday, we’re shining the spotlight on the coolest of cool cats, Otto! Otto came in this week for his annual exam and needed senior bloodwork performed. Since the patient needs to be still for a window of time, drawing blood can be particularly challenging, especially in our more nervous or stressed patients. As a Fear Free hospital, we try to make the patient as comfortable as possible during this process. Since Otto is a big foodie, we offered him Churu while his blood was being drawn from a hind leg and he did not seem to mind it one bit!
We always have Churu on hand for cats, but if there are any special treats your pet LOVES, you can always bring them to your visit! This is especially recommended for pets who are on prescription diets, or who have food allergies. #fearfreefriday #churuforthewin #fearfreeblooddraw
