Forget everything you've heard about removing ticks with petroleum jelly, burning, or twisting — those old tales can make things worse!

Here's what actually works: fine-tipped tweezers, grabbing as close to the skin as possible, and pulling straight up with steady pressure. No twisting!

Bring us any embedded ticks you're uncomfortable removing. What's your tick horror story?

Think your dog's a natural swimmer?

Surprisingly, many aren't! Even water-loving breeds can struggle with exit points in pools.

And did you know cats can actually swim but their tolerance for water varies by breed?

Maine C***s often enjoy splashing while Siamese typically perform Olympic-level jumps to avoid droplets.

What's your pet's weirdest water behavior?

To all of our clients and friends, after 32 years here at Saugus Animal Hospital, Dr. Karin Anderson will be retiring next month. As we and her clients know, Dr. Anderson has always been willing to go the extra mile for her patients, especially our senior cats & dogs. Her hilarious sense of humor and willingness to break out into song always makes our day brighter, and our hospital won't be the same without her! ❤ Although we will miss her terribly, we wish her nothing but the best in retirement and many happy days on the golf course ahead! Please join us in congratulating her on this next step, and read her parting words below:

"Dear Saugus Animal Hospital Community, With much consideration and thoughtfulness, I am announcing my retirement from Saugus Animal Hospital effective in July 2025. It has been a pleasure to come to know and care for so many beautiful patients and their guardians over the last 32 years. You will be in great hands with the awesome team at Saugus. I wish you all good health!
Sincerely, Dr. Karin Anderson"

Happy Father's Day to all the pet dads who've mastered the art of one-handed coffee drinking while holding a leash!
To celebrate, we're sharing our favorite dad jokes: "What do you call a cold pet? A chili dog!" and "What did the cat say on Father's Day? I'm very fond of you!"
Share your best (worst) pet-related dad joke in the comments!

That obsessive paw-licking might not be what you think. Summer brings a perfect storm of itch triggers—new pollens, bug bites, higher humidity causing yeast, and even sunburn on light-colored pets. If your pet's scratching like they're hiding lottery tickets, it's time for some detective work. Notice patterns? Morning scratching vs. night? After being outside? Stop by and we can help relieve those allergies! https://us.vetstoria.com/booking/66b526ae6a6a5/?r=6
