And just like that Region 4 Champs and Show Season 2023 is a wrap!

Looking back at the season, I’m so proud of these horses and grateful for my people.

Siglavy Filipana (owned by Peter Trick): finished middle of the pack at First Level Freestyle and First Level Open. We’ve been partners for a whopping 5 months, but he has all the try in the world. This guy has all the power, I’m excited to see how he develops!

Galanada (owned by Alicia Stock): placed 8th in the Training Level Open. I’m so proud of the confidence she has gained over her first season out. She has the best temperament in the world and is going to make an amazing partner for her mom!

Favory Rigitta II (my own): placed 3rd in Second Level Freestyle and 6th in Second Level Open. This little dude taught me a lot this season. He kept me flexible- always trying something new, seeing what fit and what didn’t. He held his own against some nice horses and kept being my partner the entire show at a new place, I couldn’t ask for more.

Thank you to Kate Phillips for your continued guidance in developing these young horses. Thanks to Sam Martinson and Rhythm & Blues Freestyles for creating not one but two freestyles for me! They were so fun.

And HUGE thank you to Pete and Alicia for trusting me with your horses. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity to have Siggy and Gallie as partners.

These three have spoiled me over the past couple of weeks at NWDA’s Cooler by the Lake and Alpine III & IV.

Siglavy Filipana, owned by Peter Trick, has proven himself day in and out, by putting in steady and reliable tests- qualifying us for Regionals at First Level and First Level Freestyle! He also got Open First Level Reserve High Point at Alpine!

Galanada, owned by Alicia Stock, has gained a huge amount of confidence in the ring (the only goal of the season)! The cherry on top was qualifying for regionals with scores up to 73.6% and Open Training Level High Point of the show at Alpine!

My own, Favory Rigitta II (Reggie), has been getting experience in the ring at Second & Third Levels. We also got to try out our new Second Level Freestyle made by Rhythm & Blues Freestyles, which was a blast! We are now qualified for Regionals at Second level and have one score for our freestyle! Reggie was also Open Second Level Reserve High Point at Alpine!

As always- I couldn’t have done any of this without my amazing MVF barn family & Kate Phillips! Huge shout out to Sam Martinson & Ali Wells for helping with arena horse swaps, and the best groom & owner- Alicia, for keeping the horses looking their best and keeping me on track. Its an amazing feeling to have such an incredible group of people backing you!

First horse show of 2023 is in the books! Favory Rigitta II (Reggie) and I had a blast at Otter Creek Farm this past weekend. Reggie debuted at Second and Third Level, handled the rain and heat like a champ- even earning a score to ride a Second Level Freestyle. Riding two new tests at two new levels was a bit of a learning curve for both of us, but I’m proud of Reggie for being up for the challenge.

In February, I had the opportunity to work with Kristi Wysocki. The boys (Favory Rigitta II & Favory Canada) and I sure had a great time practicing an effective seat, leg positioning in lateral movements, and responsiveness to transitions, both in and out of the saddle. I still hear Kristi’s voice in my head while schooling with these two. The boys sure treat me well!💕

Sisu Dressage is an equine training and coaching business that is part of the team at Mississippi View Farm in Sauk Rapids, MN. Rachel Tomczak, USDF Bronze Medalist, focuses on assisting riders to reach their goals no matter their perceived limitations.

Sisu, a Finnish word, roughly translates to English to mean a multitude of things: “from within,” grit, perseverance, courage, determination, and steadfastness - all of which are ingredients to achieve whatever goal an individual dares to imagine.

Sisu has shaped Rachel’s journey within dressage. Having earned multiple trips to the US Dressage Finals with non-typical breeds, a Paint horse and a Lipizzan, sisu kept her on her path by helping overcome the “I can’ts.” Rachel believes in a training system that puts horsemanship first, because none of this would be possible without our equine partners.

Perhaps, just a bit of sisu is what you need in your journey.
