Missing warmer days and training outdoors! Winter in Chicago is a difficult time to address all the various aspects of our dogs' behavioral needs, especially when we're limited to working mainly indoors.

A key part of our routine is meeting once a week with other trainer friends to work on our personal dog's skills for protection sports. This keeps us on track and gives us goals to set for our own training, which is important for us as a hobby outside of our business. This in turn also makes us better at planning sessions and managing progress with our client dogs. We are very proud of our ability to create sharp, reliable behaviors on our sport dogs as well as pet dogs. When we detail our training plans, trust that we have a reason for telling you to focus on one thing over another--or that certain parts of the behavior will come with time. It helps that Mike and I have a handful of High Obedience and High in Trial trophies/plaques too 😉

This is the same spiel we give our clients! We replace all clients' collars with our preferred brand to ensure safety and consistency for both dog and owner. It's important we encourage the correct usage of these tools so that we are able to continue having them and not contribute to negative stigma!

Something every dog trainer we know has gone through. Common in the rescue world and even sometimes for breeders. Keeping predators like canines as pets means we owe them a responsibility to do what is healthiest for them, mind and body.

Sad, but not uncommon for less reputable breeders to not do the necessary genetic testing and puppies like this suffer. Support reputable breeders who health test for the relevant conditions for their breed!

With very little motivation for rewards stemming from his insecurity, paired with extreme reactivity to leash pressure, he has not been the easiest dog to train. But slow and steady wins the race!

New Board & Train Iroh just arrived! We've known Iroh's family for a little bit, and they're actually friends of Thor's family and recommended him to us! Iroh has been owner-trained until this point, and will be doing advanced obedience, ecollar conditioning and off-leash work with us over the next 4 weeks 💪🏽

Getting a structure place session in with Beu, Stryker, and Haber while I get some office work done!

Having your dogs out on place together does wonders for their state of mind around other dogs! Seeing other dogs shouldn’t immediately lead to arousal.

Now that we’ve established a relationship with Thor, we can finally start chipping away at the goals we have for him. Our main focus at the moment is leash manners, consistently coming into heel with a seated person since his owner is in a wheelchair, and addressing his “car aggression”. • This is one of the most stable Rottweilers I’ve been around, but the first walk we went on he went into full blown aggression when he saw the first moving car. We’ve had more inquiries regarding dogs with severe anxiety/fear based aggression than usual lately, so I (Mike) figured I would put up a super high quality video of part of my most recent session with a dog I couldn’t touch 4 days ago. • For the first couple days Haber was handled primarily by Tarra, as he was clearly not okay with me approaching his crate and still remained slightly aloof in my presence even when she took him out. Day 3 I was able to take the leash from Tarra and walk him for potty breaks. Day 4 I was able to sit in on their short training sessions. By day 5 Haber could exist in a room with me and even took food from my hand.
