Have a happy and safe Halloween!

Spooky season is here, which for us humans, means time to get into cool costumes, scare the heck out of everybody and eat lots of candy. But those three things happen to be hair-raising, pine-chilling and just dreadful when it comes to our pets!

Dr. Stull and other veterinarians say risks can be greatly reduced by ensuring dogs are fully vaccinated and receive regular veterinary care, using antiparasitics as recommended by a veterinarian, not feeding raw meat to dogs, washing hands after contact with a dog or a dog's bowls or toys, not kissing dogs or letting them lick you, and cleaning up their f***s promptly.

While dog lovers cherish their pets’ affection, those licks and nips can potentially spread harmful germs.

ACVB issues statement on aversive training methods. Augusto DeOliveira “The Dog Daddy”, has gone viral on social media for his ability to control dogs. We recently received an email about a recent rash of severe respiratory cases in dogs in the southern suburbs of Chicago. They are presenting very similarly to an outbreak currently happening in Oregon. They become sick with what appears to be a normal upper respiratory infection but it progresses to a pneumonia which is largely unresponsive to antibiotics.

There are currently 6 known cases that have progressed similarly to the Oregon cases here in Illinois. We have included the article link about the Oregon outbreak below;

If you are concerned about your own pet please call us and set up a doctor exam.

September 26, 2023 Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease in Oregon In August, the Oregon Department of Agriculture (ODA) received anecdotal reports of an atypical canine infectious respiratory disease (CIRDC) circulating in the Willamette Valley. Heartworm disease is on the rise:
Veterinary clinics in areas where heartworm incidence has risen attribute the increase to an influx of heartworm-positive pets, poor adherence to preventive measures and weather, while those in the handful of areas where incidence has declined attribute it to greater pet owner adherence to preventive measures.

According to the recently released 2022 American Heartworm Society (AHS) Heartworm Incidence Map, rates have continued to trend upward in both heartworm hot spots and in places where cases were once rare.
