Mr Mischief is a dashing kitten with mesmerizing eyes that gleam with mischief. He's a bundle of boundless energy, always ready to pounce on anything that moves. Ohio is ~2 years old and 30 lbs. He's good with people of all ages and gets along well with other dogs. Ohio is housebroken and doesn't need to be crated when you leave the house. He walks nicely on leash and is good in the car. What more could you want?

Cinderella needs you all to be her fairy godmothers and share, share, share her post! ✨🪄✨

Cinderella is a 1.5-year-old, 55-lb. mix in search of a foster or forever home. She is losing her current foster home because she and the other dog are not a good match for each other and living together in a small space has become tense and stressful for both of them. At this time, we think Cinderella would benefit from being the only dog in her home. She's a typically chill house hippo when there aren't other dogs around.

Everyone who meets Cinderella comments on how friendly and sweet she is with people. She's outgoing and affectionate with absolutely everyone. You don't have to worry about strangers approaching her or new people coming over to your house; she is all wags, kisses, and love!

Cinderella has good leash manners, but a fenced yard would be ideal for her. She's super fun to play with and enjoys tug and fetch. She will drop one toy at your feet so that you'll throw another one! Indoors, she is well-behaved and does not get into trouble. She enjoys being near her people, chewing nylabones, and lounging. Cinderella is crate-trained and knows a number of commands.

Please consider opening your heart and home up to Cinderella if you are in a position to do so and fill out an application so you can get to know her better. You can also meet her at the Bloomingdale PetSmart Saturday from 11-2! If you can't give Cinderella a home, you can still help her by spreading the word about her!

Daisy's Journey

Daisy came to AHF in very rough shape. It was clear she had lived a difficult life devoid of comfort and had been used for breeding. Her most obvious health issue was a large mammary tumor. We knew Daisy had a difficult road ahead of her. We knew her care would be expensive. But Daisy wanted to live and deserved to live, and AHF wanted to give her a second chance at a better life.

The first thing we learned about Daisy was that she needed medication for her heart (not for heartworm, but a different issue). She was cleared to have surgery to have her mammary tumor removed and was spayed at the same time. The surgeries were successful, although it was suspected that the tumor was cancerous and may have already spread.

Daisy struggled to recovery after surgery. She couldn't stand on her own and wasn't eating. She was moved to ICU at an emergency vet with 24 hour care. She was anemic. Blood cell counts were off. She needed transfusions. There were neuro deficits and concerns about her spleen. But Daisy was a fighter! And AHF, Daisy's foster family, the veterinarians helping her, and one very special volunteer/supporter made sure she was getting everything she needed to pull through.

It was touch and go for a while, but Daisy began to eat, drink, and walk on her own again. She had acupuncture to help with her weak legs. She was able to go home with her family. It was nice to finally have some good news. And then the biopsy of Daisy's tumor came back, and it was NOT cancerous! ALL her bloodwork is now completely normal.

Daisy is finally able to live like a normal dog. She is happy and healthy. She enjoys going to work with her veterinarian mom and getting love from everyone at the clinic. She has a feline best friend there too!

Saving one dog won't change the world, but surely for that one dog, the world will change forever! 💜

MOCHA: Mocha is a playful and curious kitten. At first, she's a bit shy, but warms up quickly when she's comfortable in her environment. She loves to be pet on her chin, head, and back. She can't get enough! Mocha also likes to follow her humans around to see what they're doing and adventure around the house. When she's not exploring her surroundings or seeking affection, Mocha enjoys lounging in sunny spots, her fur gleaming in the warm light. Mocha's interactions with other pets in the household are equally endearing. She approaches them with cautious curiosity, eventually engaging in gentle play. Her purrs are as loud as her personality, filling the room with a soothing vibration that brings comfort to all who hear it. Mocha likes to curls up with her siblings, a contented ball of fur, ready to drift into a peaceful sleep. Her presence brings joy and warmth, making every day a little brighter for those lucky enough to share their home with her.

CAPPUCCINO: Cappuccino is a unique tabby boy with white paws and white on his nose. He's a ball of energy, so he's looking for a family who can spend a lot of time playing with him. He also loves attention and pets. If he wants pets, he'll use his paw and reach up for your hand to pet him. He's very curious around the house and likes to adventure around or watch the happenings outside through the window. Despite his playful nature, Cappuccino also has a sweet and affectionate side. When he's all tuckered out, he'll curl up in your lap, purring contentedly as he drifts off to sleep. This lovable tabby is looking for a forever home where he can share his boundless energy and love. CARAMEL: Caramel is a very sweet and gentle tabby kitten. She loves to spend her days playing with her toys and her kitty siblings. When Caramel isn't playing or taking a nap on a comfy blanket, she likes to supervise her human around the house to make sure they're getting their chores done in time to be able to give her lots of cuddles on the couch or in bed before it's time to go to sleep. Caramel is a great companion to her kitty siblings and her humans and loves to cuddle. Her kitty siblings adore her, and they often engage in playful wrestling matches and chase each other around the house. Despite her playful nature, Caramel has a nurturing side as well. She can often be found grooming her siblings, making sure they look as pristine as she does. In the evenings, after a day full of adventures and fun, Caramel enjoys curling up on her human's lap, purring contentedly as she drifts off to sleep. Her human can't help but smile at the sight of her peaceful face and the gentle rise and fall of her tiny chest. Caramel's presence brings so much joy and warmth to the household, making every day a little brighter and every moment a bit more special.

Almost Home adopts kittens under 6 months of age in pairs, as kittens that young are not fully socialized and need a same/similar-age playmate in order not to become a nuisance to family members—including other pets in the home. Adopting kittens in pairs allows them to complete the kitty socialization process, learn good kitty manners, and have a playmate so their humans can sleep at night. We consider adopting single kittens to applicants who have another young kitty under 1 year of age, provided the applicant’s kitten is up to date on all age-appropriate vetting.

Lara and her puppies can't wait to meet people this weekend and are hoping to find their forever homes! They will be at the Bloomingdale Petco from 11-2 on Saturday and at the yard sale fundraiser in Elk Grove (584 Wellington Ave.) on Sunday from 9:30-2.

Lara (mom) is 3 years old and 25 lbs. She is a sweet and adorable little lady with the cutest underbite. The puppies are 10 weeks old and currently weigh 4 to 7 lbs. each.

🦴 Food donation request: we are running very low on Purina One Adult Dry Dog Food Chicken and Rice Formula. 🦴

Do you know how many dogs AHF fed today? There is a total of 79 dogs in our care right now. 79! That's more than you'll see on our website because that number includes puppies too young to be adopted, dogs on medical hold, hospice dogs, etc. If you're in a position to donate some food to help keep all those bellies full, we sure would appreciate it!

Food donations can dropped off at 1800 W. Irving Park Rd. in Schaumburg. The blue donation hut is still accessible during construction.

Juno is a Siamese cat that was rescued from a local hoarding situation. She came to AHF pregnant. Due to Juno’s young age, she miscarried. Even though she lost her kittens, Juno bonded with cutie, Tortellini.

They love to play, run around the house, and cuddle together on chairs, couches, and pillows. The kitties just want to be in whatever room their humans are in, but they are still gaining confidence with being held or carried. They do enjoy being pet and being played with using feather and ribbon toys.

These kitties are territorial, so they need to be the only cats in a home. They do get along with a calm dog. This curious, playful, and sweet pair deserves the chance to find a loving family to foster or adopt them, so they can see what real love is. AHF is looking for someone who is patient and cat-experienced to take in these beautiful cats.

Tortellini is a fighter! His mama, Athena, came to AHF pregnant with 4 kittens. Unfortunately, she lost three of her babies. With bottle feeding and determination, Tortellini managed to beat the odds and is a thriving, playful kitten. Tortellini was raised by his mama, Athena, but also by his second mama, Juno.

Tortellini loves to play, run around the house, and cuddle with his second mama, Juno, on chairs, couches, and pillows. The kitties just want to be in whatever room their humans are in, but they are still gaining confidence with being held or carried. They do enjoy being pet and being played with using feather and ribbon toys.

Juno and Tortellini are bonded and they must be adopted together.

Mercury is a 2-year-old, 25-lb. mix waiting to be your foster or forever dog! 🐾

In addition to being a great age and manageable size, Mercury is good with people of all ages and loves attention and affection. She also gets along with other dogs. Mercury does okay with cats indoors, but if she sees one outside, she is inclined to chase. On walks, she's very active and curious, eager to sniff everything. Mercury is great little passenger in the car.

Great Dane lovers...we have someone we'd like you to meet!

This picture doesn't do Jaxon justice, but we can only work with what we've got, and this is it. So just know that he's more handsome and majestic in person. Jaxon is a 5-year-old Great Dane who weighs 100 lbs. He previously lived with with other dogs, cats, and kids and gets along well with all of them. He's a very nice boy!

Sadly, Jaxon's owner is moving to a small apartment and cannot have him there. He needs a rescue commitment by Friday. AHF would love to keep him out of a shelter, but we cannot commit to taking him unless we have somewhere for him to go—a foster or foster-to-adopt home.

Cindy is a sweet dainty little girl, the runt of a 5 kitten litter. She has a tiny, adorable, serious face. While she enjoys playtime with her siblings, she’s quite the independent girl. Cindy loves to sleep by herself and is a bit shy. With time she’ll come out of her shell. Her favorite toys are anything with a bell attached. Cindy would do well with older children and adults. Hi there! I'm Klaus, a playful, affectionate, and lively 9-month-old shepherd mix on the lookout for my "furever" home.

One great thing about me is that I am already potty trained! Another is that I'm a good boy while my foster parents are at work during the day. I wait patiently for them without causing any trouble--no crate needed!

I absolutely adore playing with my toys and love to play fetch in the yard with a ball. Snuggling up with my foster family is a favorite pastime of mine, and I will follow my family wherever they go. I'm a loyal companion at heart.

🍭 Lollipop wants to be your Lolli-pup! She is available for foster or adoption. 🍭

Lollipop is around 10 months old and weighs 18 lbs. She will not get any bigger, so she's perfect for someone who wants a smaller dog (but not too small!). She has typical young-dog energy and playfulness. An outgoing, friendly girl, Lollipop is great with all people, including little ones. Eliana is still looking for a home. She was adopted a few months ago, but due to unforeseen health problems, her adopter is unable to continue caring for her. She will make a great foster or forever dog for the lucky person or family that welcomes her into their home.

Eliana is a 1 to 1.5-year-old, 50 lb. mix. Two things Eliana loves are her people and other dogs! She has not been cat tested with AHF, but our rescue partner said she was okay with them. Eliana is shy with strangers and needs a little time to warm up; once she knows you, she is very sweet and loving. She is great with children.

Eliana loves to be where her humans are and also enjoys yard time. She will get the zoomies but then be chill afterward. This smart girl learns quickly and is eager to please. She is housebroken and does not need to be crated when you leave the house.
