Donations continue to pour in for both our food drive and our holiday Paisley Paws Charitable Veterinary Foundation fundraiser. So far, we've brought 6 baskets worth of food and dry goods to the Schaumburg Township food pantry AND we've raised nearly $600 for our Paisley Paws Life-Saving Angel Fund.

THANK YOU to everyone for your generosity! The food drive and fundraiser both run through 12/31. Link to the Facebook fundraiser is in the comments.

Are your holiday celebrations underway? Please keep these important safety tips in mind so your pets can have a happy, healthy Thanksgiving, too.

1. Avoid table scraps & secure the trash: Some foods you might find at a traditional Thanksgiving feast are harmful to animals. Fatty foods/turkey drippings can lead to pancreatitis. Raisins, chocolate and onions can be toxic. Things like bones and corn cobs can be sharp and/or cause intestinal damage and blockages.

2. Watch decorations & guests: Curious pets might get tangled up or even ingest decorations, which can quickly lead to a trip to the ER. Additionally, some of your guests may not realize that sneaking certain foods under the table isn't safe -- or they may try to rough house with a pet which can lead to unwanted behavior.

3. Create a quiet space: If you are hosting or bringing your pet to a large gathering, create a safe, quiet space for them to relax. Large crowds can be overwhelming and sometimes too loud for our furry friends. If your dog is especially anxious, ask your veterinarian about other options that may help such as medication.

4. Offer pet-friendly treats: Your pets shouldn't have to miss out on ALL the yummies! Consider a pet-safe treat like a small amount of pumpkin puree (100% pumpkin!), plain turkey baby food (frozen for a bonus! make sure there are no seasonings in it), or a pet-friendly homemade treat.

It's getting chilly! 🥶Cold weather can affect your pet's joints, skin, activity, and routines. Here are a few tips to prepare your pet for wintertime:
- Provide a warm and cozy space off of the floor and away from drafts
- Sweaters or jackets are great for short-haired, small or senior pets
- Limit your pet's time outside in the extreme cold
- Some pets' nutrition needs might change during the winter. Talk to your vet if you think this might be the case.
