Here is Megan Gulsby, SAVMA Wellbeing Officer, presenting the motion on the HOD floor during its June 23 meeting, held concurrently with AVMA Convention 2024, June 21-25 in Austin, Texas. May is Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month! This month we recognize and celebrate the vast history and beautifully diverse cultures of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI). We specifically honor the sacrifices and challenges that those within the AAPI community have overcome and still face within the United States. In our continued mission to strive for more knowledge, we charge you to learn more about the history and contributions of the AAPI community in your local area.

Our final Meet the Executive Board post is here! Last but certainly not least is your SAVMA Chapter President Representative, Jonathan Dumas. Jonathan is a 3rd year veterinary student from Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine. As your Chapter President Representative, Jonathan sits on the Executive Board as the voice of your local SAVMA Chapter Presidents. He brings in the perspective of the students that are running your executive boards at your schools and helps the executive board understand more the local level of work being done at all our SAVMA Chapters.
Throughout the rest of his tenure as the SAVMA Chapter President Representative, Jonathan aims to build a community amongst the 39 SAVMA Chapter Presidents. He says that each institution is unique in terms of its geographical location, makeup and offerings, and he would like to harness aspects of the things we do well individually, and bring it the forefront to serve as a source of institutional knowledge.
We're so lucky to have Jonathan representing our SAVMA Presidents and your local chapters and are super grateful for his role on our Executive Board. Help us in showing that appreciation below in the comments!
Our next Meet the Executive Board feature is your SAVMA Cultural Outreach Officer, Pallavi Oruganti. Pallavi is a 4th year veterinary student at The Ohio State University. As your COO, Pallavi works to showcase and create initiatives for diversity, equity, and inclusion. Throughout her tenure, Pallavi has been amazing at providing information on how we can continue to grow in these aspects in our profession. She has hosted webinars, formed relationships with other DEI organizations, and created infographics about how to support diverse groups in veterinary medicine.
Pallavi has been amazing throughout her time as your Cultural Outreach Officer and she plans to continue her work by contributing as the student voice on the AVMA/AAVMC DEI Commission and making SAVMA more inline with our goals to advance Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in various facets of vet med.
Help us in thanking Pallavi for all that she does for SAVMA down below in the comments!
Happy Friday everyone! Let’s celebrate with a Meet the Executive Board post! Today our feature is your Veterinary Economics Officer, Tyler McMurray, a 4th year veterinary student at Mississippi State University. As the VEO, Tyler works to share resources, webinars, etc. to all of our SAVMA members. She also attends the AVMA Economics Summit to learn new strategies students can use to manage money, and be ready for the work force. The knowledge she gains at this conference, as well as the resources she shares with SAVMA members are used to help you all with loan repayment planning, budgeting as a veterinary student, and preparing you to be successful financially after graduation.
Through her work, Tyler is able to help all students no matter what branch of the profession you decide to pursue after graduation. That is one of her favorite parts of veterinary medicine. She loves how cool it is that our degree is so diverse and loves that truly, we can do ANYTHING with a DVM.
Let’s start the weekend right by showing some love to your Veterinary Economics Officer in the comments below!
