Owned by- Jan Christian Suddergaard Andersen
Mare- Tag # 8345 -Liver Chestnut -5 year old -Sand Springs HMA, OR.
Gelding- Tag # 6243 -Brown -7 year old -Black Rock Range HMA, NV.
These two horses have been some of the most, easy and enjoyable older horses we’ve gentled and started! Both of them came in, very mellow and calm and from day one have been a delight to be around. Both in their own ways have been very willing and trainable. We picked them up in Nevada, about 2 months ago, completely wild and untouched and here is where they are currently at in their training.
Both horses can:
-Be caught by anyone in any size of pen/pasture.
-Respectful and easy to halter.
-Softly leads and backs up.
-Stand tied politely, with hard tie, soft tie and cross ties.
-Grooms nose to tail and everywhere in between.
-Pick up, pick out and trim all four feet.
-Loads, stands correctly and backs out of the trailer softly.
-Respectful with other horses, mares and geldings. (The mare does get mare-ish while in season)
-Respects fences. (Hot and solid fences)
-Hobbled trained
-Stands for hose downs and baths. The mare loves the pampering and the gelding likes to play with the water.
-Fly sprays
-Fly masks
-Body maneuvers and moves off of pressure wherever pressure is applied. (lowers head, forehand turn, haunch turn, side passing both directions, lateral flexion, backing up softly, follow nose to tail to untangled, and etc)
-Round penning and lunging. Walk, trot, canter and stops off of voice commands, turns and gives you two eyes for respect.
-Desensitizing/ Sacking out. (Tarps, poles, plastic bags, flags, ropes, blankets, pool noodles, and etc)
-Goes those obstacle courses with ease. Gate, poles, bridge, moves “scary” objects (slicker a.k.a. rain jacket and garbage bag with cans in it.), mailbox, walk over and back off of a narrow tarp, walk though pool noodle box/ cowboy curtain box, brush pile, hanging tarp, rope and drag log, drag tier though the stumps, wave flag all around and place back in barrel, cross ditch/ water. The obstacle course consistently gets changed up and they take it all in strides.
-Roped out and gives to the rope. (All four feet, girth, flank, rimfire, and etc.)
-Wears saddles and carries the bit
-Sacking out and desensitizing with the saddle on.
-Ground tie while loading and unloading objects in the saddle bags. Plastic bags and empty cans. (Pretty much loud scary noises.) lol
They are getting a lot of exposure to daily life on a farm and with farming and activities going on constantly around them and learning the ins and outs of being a domestic horse.
Cars, trucks, tractors, farm equipment, bicycles, farm animals, dogs, wildlife, wild kids and etc. Just to name a few of the things they have seen so far.
They both love affection and scratches from adults and kids. Definitely no stranger danger. Looking forward to seeing what the future holds for these two, so far it looks bright.🌟
