A huge thank you to South Shore Country Club and very good girl Nala who helped raise money for SAS!

Nala was adopted this year and has already started her work as a local therapy dog.

We could not help the animals we do without friends like South Shore Country Club, we are so grateful!

🦃 Did you know turkeys can recognize human faces & have excellent memories?

Until conservation efforts 50 years ago, these birds had nearly disappeared from the US due to habitat loss and overhunting. We're happy they are back: any bird that eats up to 200 ticks a day is more than welcome on our property!

As SAS, we have a passion for senior pets.

Ruben came to us after his owner passed away, a super senior at over 16-years-old. He had multiple health concerns and spent a while at the shelter while we worked through them.

Ruben was the recipient of the first in house dental surgery done right here at the shelter, a really exciting thing for us! Our medical suite has already hugely improved the lives of the animals who come through our doors.

A very patient adopter waited until Ruben got the all clear and was ready to head to his new home. We are so happy to report that this senior cat is so happy! He has tons of windows and patrols the yard for small animals. He makes sure his new person never forgets a morning feeding with his 6 am wake up calls.

All animals deserve homes, but there is something extra special about the seniors getting their happily ever after.

✂️Cat spay and neuter spots available✂️

We have space available for low cost cat spay and neuters on Tuesday, November 12th. You must be able to drop off at 8 am and pick up at 4 pm THAT DAY.

Your cat will receive their surgery, rabies and FVRCP vaccines if needed (please bring any prior vet records), treatment for fleas and ear mites (selamectin), and a nail trim all for $65.

Additionally, we offer a blood test to check for FIV/Felv ($30) and/or a microchip ($30), both are highly recommended!

👃You know dogs have extremely sensitive noses. But did you know this means that fragrance can be extremely irritating---or even bad--for them?

To avoid respiratory issues and even neurological problems, many experts recommend steering clear of essential oil burners or scented candles close to their beds and using fragrance-free laundry detergent for all pet beddings, towels, and clothing.

Not an Arctic Fox, Garbo is indeed a dog! This super floofy fella is active and loving, the whole package!

Garbo had a rough start, being found in a dumpster and never finding his home. Despite these hardships, this goofy and fun pup loves all people and other dogs! He is guessed to be between 1-2 years, so he has a lot of s***k and energy.

The downside to Garbo is he is not housebroken. He needs a patient person to help train him. Garbo can also be a little grabby with his leash when he starts out walking, but all in good fun!

Garbo loves to play with dogs his size, larger dogs are a bit intimidating to him. No cats please.

Like most young dogs, Garbo will benefit from some positive reinforcement training to help him learn some basic dog skills.

Garbo is a favorite here and we know you'll love him too!

Two years ago we took in the "instant family". It included a senior dog, a senior cat and a young Dauschund. We were determined to keep them together, they were such a bonded crew.

You can imagine there are not many adopters out there looking to instantly expand their family by three!

We were thrilled when a local person stepped up, opening her home to these three, Roman, Sammy and London.

Roman, the senior Pomeranian, was diagnosed with heart disease. He was on seven mediations daily and under lots of vet care. His person never gave up on him.

Roman passed away last week, with his best human and animal friends by his side. We could not have asked for a better home for this bunch and we know Roman only knew love. Rest easy pal 🌈
