The temperatures are perfect for my late dahlia crop. And we are finally going to get some rain relief from the driest October on record. We’ve had no rain since the hurricane. I’d love to leave the dahlias as long as they would go but the drop down deadline is Nov 15 so we can flip the beds and start planting spring babies that will arrive the following week: Italian poppies, campanula, bells of Ireland. The seedlings I’ve started will be ready by then too: dianthus, godetia, statice. And then we will do the direct seeding: bachelor buttons, orlaya, larkspur, Buplureum, agrostemma, saponaria. And the ranunculus and anemone corms will be tucked in by Dec 1 as they are all planted and rooting in the greenhouse. Last but not least, the tulips will be crate planted and rooted in the cooler for the February start date. It’s a well orchestrated symphony to make this beauty a reality and I love being the conductor.
