E. cuniculi infections can occur in the lens. If caught early, the lens can be removed by a veterinary ophthalmologist and the eye saved. Otherwise the eye becomes painful and blind, as is seen here, and enucleation is indicated.

Yesterday we had our first case of myxomatosis for this year. Keep your rabbits safe by keeping them indoors and maintain good screens on your doors and windows. Myxomatosis is a deadly virus that causes rabbits to develop fever, swollen eyes, lips, and ge****ls.

Desert tortoises are native to southeastern California and parts of Arizona, Nevada, and Utah. They are a protected species and are illegal to own and breed. Once in captivity, they cannot be released. Possession of a desert tortoise requires a permit and a permit sticker from the California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW). If you already have one, please apply for a permit (https://www.tortoise.org/index.html). The climate here is not appropriate to house these species outdoors and will require specializedcare.

Have you ever seen an opossum wearing a sweater? No? Well now you have! This opossum was rescued as a baby and is now an old lady here for surgery. We hope she recovers well!

This is an Indian peahen. Did you know that the babies are called peachicks? There are 3 species of peafowl: the Indian/blue peafowl, green peafowl, and the Congo peafowl.
