🦃 As Thanksgiving approaches, many pet owners may be tempted to share their holiday feasts with their furry friends. However, it’s essential to remember that turkey bones can pose serious health risks to pets. Here’s why you should avoid giving them to your pets this holiday season:

Choking Hazard:
Turkey bones, especially when cooked, can splinter easily. These sharp shards can lodge in your pet’s throat, leading to choking or severe injury.
Digestive Issues:
When ingested, turkey bones can cause blockages in your pet's digestive system. This can lead to symptoms like vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, which may require emergency veterinary care.
Internal Injuries:
Splintered bones can cause tears or punctures in your pet's intestines or stomach lining. This can lead to severe internal bleeding and life-threatening conditions.
Pancreatitis Risk:
The rich, fatty skin of turkey can trigger pancreatitis in pets, a painful and potentially life-threatening condition that requires immediate veterinary attention.

Alternative Treats:
Instead of turkey bones, consider offering your pets safe, vet-approved treats or a small portion of unseasoned, cooked turkey meat (without bones or skin). Always consult with your veterinarian for safe food options.

In Case of Ingestion:
If your pet accidentally ingests turkey bones or shows signs of distress (such as vomiting, difficulty breathing, or lethargy), contact us at 256-434-5290 immediately. Our team at Madison Veterinary Emergency is here to provide urgent care when you need it most.

Let’s keep our pets safe this Thanksgiving by making informed choices. Enjoy the holiday feast, but remember that turkey bones are a no-go for our furry family! 🐶❤️🐱
