A couple nights ago, I gave Moonshine her first bed ❤️ She hasn’t destroyed any towels, blankets, or toys since coming to Stay With Me… So I thought I’d give our latest addition a nice little upgrade! She is still recovering from her past life, but I think she really appreciates this… Later on, I actually heard her begin to snore (video in comments for proof) 😴 Beyond endearing! She also got a bath earlier this week and her new collar just came in the mail too 😍 I wonder what she thinks of all this…

When Hopscotch passed away on December 13th, I was empty inside. I thought about saving another dog… perhaps in his honor, perhaps to keep me distracted from the grief… But I ultimately decided that it would be best to focus on the dogs that I already have at my rescue. At that point, we had four long-timers… Jeter, Trigger, Betsey, and Kiwi, all of which had been with us for AT LEAST ONE YEAR. Given how long they’ve waited and how patient they’ve been, to put all my time into those four dogs instead of saving another just seemed like the right thing to do… And now I know it was 💙

By mid January, Jeter had found his forever family after just over a year in foster care with us. We’ve gotten updates on him, too, and it’s very apparent that he is forever loved by his new mom. What’s more, Jeter is not the only long-timer that found his special place in this crazy world…

Just this past weekend, Trigger finally found the home of his (and my) dreams! A 2.5 acre property up in Idaho with three other kelpies that are just like him and two human owners who love their animals like their children… what more could a dog want? For the first time in his life, Trigger is truly home with his real family. He’s no longer waiting for someone to love him forever… instead, he’s investigating the snowfall (another first for him), exploring the grounds, and starting to integrate with the other pack members. Long term, I have no doubt that the needs of his breed will be entirely fulfilled and he’ll absolutely meet his full potential with these adopters. He was already the perfect dog with me, but I know he’ll become something even better in their care. I’m really looking forward to the future updates!

As a rescuer, it’s deeply upsetting when you can’t help every dog in need and it’s even more agonizing to put yourself on a firm intake freeze… BUT that heart ache is profoundly outweighed by adoptions like this. AFTER FIFTEEN MONTHS in foster care, my boy is unconditionally loved by a family of his own. CONGRATULATIONS TRIGGER! YOU DID IT!! And, of course, THANK YOU TO HIS SPECTACULAR ADOPTERS for giving him the life we dreamed about since the day I saved him ❤️

The truth is, shelters can only effectively save lives when there’s enough human support to run them. We all know HARTT does so much to help our community, but now they need your help at their shelter 🙏
Can you spare 3 hours to help socialize our animals and keep their environments clean? What about two hours to help get meals ready and give some amazing dogs a break from their kennels?

We are delighted to say that one of our four long-timers, Jeter, has finally found his forever home after spending over a year with our tiny rescue ❤️

Jeter became a Stay With Me dog after being adopted from Maricopa County Animal Care And Control at the end of 2022. He was originally found by two Good Samaritans, who surrendered him to MCACC after they found him running around in Glendale. When his status at their facility became “adoptable,” these same two finders came to Jeter’s rescue for a second time during a “clear the shelter” event, as they were concerned he could end up in the wrong hands. After adopting him, they partnered with our rescue to help ensure he would go to only the best home possible… and that’s exactly what happened this past Friday! Yessiree! Jeter, at last, secured himself a dedicated family that will stay with him for life 🏡🐶

To his adopter, THANK YOU SO SO MUCH for committing to one of our dogs and reminding us why we do what we do! We haven’t had a single adoption since September, but it’s moments like these that give us hope for a brighter future for these animals. Lastly, CONGRATULATIONS Jeter! You found your special place in this crazy world with a life full of only love, compassion, and adventure ahead! WOOHOO 💯

Dogs don’t simply “leave paw prints on our hearts” when they cross over.
They leave craters.
They obliterate mountains.
Drain oceans.
Turn our lives upside down.
Make the world feel incomplete.
It’s like reading a novel and then having

























































…it end in the middle of a sentence. Feel that?
Searching. Looking for some sort of explanation.
It’s like getting in a car knowing you have some place to be, but not knowing which way to go. I know I have to move forward, but I have no idea which direction to take. His stuff is so hard to have out, but I don’t want to put it away yet because I don’t want him to think we are already moving on without him. It feels wrong and, if his spirit is out there, I don’t want him to see us packing up so soon. I don’t want him to mistakenly think any part of this is easy.
On December 13th, 2023, we lost our precious Hopscotch to a rare fungal disease, called Aspergillus. The veterinarians who worked with Hopscotch also suspected he had a rare immune-mediated disease (either Systemic Histiocytosis or Cutaneous Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis) on top of the fungal infection.
We are overcome with grief.
We are lost without our boy.
I’m putting on a brave face for work.
But I am a shell.
We had been fighting for his wellness for over a year, and much of our lives became centered around him… so many conversations throughout the day were just about this one dog… and foster care has an inevitable way of making these rescue dogs feel like our own. The emptiness from not having him here anymore is crippling, and all the habits I now have to break make it impossible to not think about.
How am I just suppose to wake up and not check how he’s doing first thing in the morning?
How are we not going to call the vet this week and send picture updates like we had done so many times before?
How am I not going to take him to his appointment on the 28th?
How am I not going to wash his paws today?
Tomorrow?
The day after that?
My mom accidentally got his breakfast ready the morning after he left us.
I don’t know how you can pour so much time, energy, resources, and LOVE into something… only to have an outcome like this. It doesn’t make any sense.
He was only two, almost three, years old.
He was the best dog. The BEST.
He had a family that would have done anything for him if they thought it would help.
He was loved, fiercely and relentlessly.
He was home with us.
And he should still be home with us.

Hopscotch’s Full Story Below 📖⬇️
Hopscotch (formerly named Bob) was saved from MCACC’s euthanasia list back in the beginning of 2022, when a “rescue” decided to pull him from the shelter. Fast forward several months with that “rescue”, it became apparent that the organization’s owner was unwilling to provide for Bob/Hopscotch and was failing to make his veterinary care a priority. After much back and forth, Stay With Me Animal Rescue was finally able to convince the neglectful organization to transfer Bob into their control in December, so we could effectively take over his medical needs (and officially rename him Hopscotch). Now here we are, almost a year later, still fighting his severe skin issues so we can give this boy an opportunity at a better life. We started out working with a regular vet to manage his allergies and, when that was no longer enough, we sought out direction from specialists at Dermatology For Animals. Unfortunately, we are still left with many unknowns even after working with two of their dermatologist AND, to make matters more defeating, just recently our precious boy faced a life-threatening flair up. On November 7th, Hopscotch’s toe was determined to be necrotic, and we were given the option to either amputate his leg or euthanize him.
How could we let him go after all we had done to fight for him?
How could we watch the light fade in his golden eyes when we could see he still had so much spirit left?
We just knew if he could talk, he’d say “I’m not ready to give up yet… Please Stay With Me.”
So we did.
On November 9th, Hopscotch went to Hayden Road Animal Hospital on four legs and returned home November 10th with only three. We were also able to send in tissue samples for histopathology testing and a valley fever titer to bring us closer to understanding what his body is going through. Since his return home, we are happy to report Hopscotch has been recovering surprisingly well, however, providing him this relief has been a substantial cost to our rescue. With his final bill for the amputation and testing reaching $1792.43, every donation and ‘share’, regardless of magnitude, is critical to our organization right now. Truth be told, we don’t know as of yet what the long term prognosis looks like for Hopscotch as we are still awaiting his test results, BUT what we do know is that, if the tables were turned, Hopscotch would step up for you the way we need you to step up for him.
That is certain.

⭐️It’s Krazy Kiwi⭐️

She is a female husky / shepherd mix, about 50 pounds and 2 years old 🗓️

Kiwi, affectionately nicknamed Krazy Kiwi, has more energy and goofiness than any other dog at our rescue 🤪 Plus, all the DRAMA (just like her breed entails)! Not surprisingly, any dog as active and driven as a husky or shepherd requires a breed savvy owner to live a truly fulfilling life… Now imagine when those breeds are brought together to create one puppy… 🤯 As if that wouldn’t be a lot to handle, picture those two breeds combined into one special puppy that was never properly set up for success in the first place… It only makes sense that you would end up with a Krazy Kiwi 🥝 So, naturally, at less than six months old, our silly girl found herself on the euthanasia list at Maricopa County for behavior issues 🥺 Fortunately, a rescue stepped in to save her life, however, she spent the next year bouncing around between various foster homes and adoptive homes, until she was ultimately transferred to our rescue in December.

With us, Kiwi has definitely become a better version of her kooky self, especially since graduating a Board+Train program not too long ago 💯 BUT a lazy owner who fails work with her on a daily basis will cause Kiwi’s behavior to regress rapidly. In other words, Kiwi will only continue to become a better dog if she has an active owner committed to keeping up with her training and maintaining boundaries. Furthermore, a house with a pool would be wonderful for this water loving girl, and a doggie play mate or two would surely make her world go round 😍

She is spayed, microchipped, vaccinated, and f***l tested 💉🩻🩺
