๐๏ธOn December 3rd, we posted two rescued puppy mill moms on our stories: one Tricolor and one Blenheim. We quickly noticed a large mass on the ni**le of the Blenheim, who we call Charlie ๐. We assumed it was related to recently having puppies and nothing serious. Unfortunately, we were wrong. At the advice of the incredible vets , we had the mass removed and sent out for a biopsy.
Charlie has a Grade 3 mammary adenocarcinoma, a highly aggressive form of mammary cancer. The good news is it had โclean margins,โ and it was all removed ๐ค๐ฝ. With this type of cancer, there is a 58% chance of reoccurrence. To reduce the 58% to much lower, we have decided to give her a radical doggy mastectomy. This will be done in two separate surgeries by removing all the mammary glands and lymph nodes on one side, and then two weeks later, she will go back and have the other side removed.
We hope after this minor setback, she will go on to live a cancer-free life in her forever home. Until then, she will be safe and sound with her incredible foster mom and dad!
