One of our longtime friends and previous adopters met a special dog at the OC Animal Shelter. has adopted two Cavaliers from us and posted about a Chocolate Lab who was a stray, had some major neurological issues, and was at risk of being euthanized (before the fires). No rescue in California would take on his case because neuro is always the most expensive. His head tilts to the right, constantly spins in circles to the left, gets dizzy, and falls over, but none of this slows him down.
When the fires broke out in California, we felt utterly helpless hearing the countless stories about peopleโs homes, pets, and wildlife. Knowing that this guy would be first on the list to be euthanized to create more space for the thousands of displaced animals, we pulled the trigger, and Irene and her husband dropped everything and drove him from CA to Scottsdale.
Meet Tank! He may not be a Cavalier, but he is worthy of being saved and given a second chance! On Thursday, he came to AZ, and on Friday, he had a full workup with a CT and MRI at the Veterinary Neurological Center.
Tank was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker malformation (DWM), which means he is missing part of his cerebellum. Also, they unfortunately discovered some major blunt force trauma to the head, which likely caused some brain damage and a cystic area in his brain from the traumaโpossibly causing seizures in the future. His body, including his head, is covered in scars and signs of injuries and some abuse.
GOOD NEWS! He will live a long, happy life where he can spin in circles and be as goofy as he wants. He is in foster care with Dan & Violet, former Cavalier Rescue Alumni!!! You may remember Violet had to have her eye removed, and Danโs mother, at birth, accidentally chewed off his foot. So when we discovered Tank was missing part of his brain, we knew the right person to call, and she couldnโt say no!

Saving one dog will not change the world, but surely, for that one dog, the world will change forever.
