FoxTail Ranch Rescue Horses

FoxTail Ranch Rescue Horses Family owned ranch who aids people in quarantine services when rescuing horses from slaughter. Finally, and most important, we are a community driven ranch.

Our goal at FoxTail Ranch is to bring redemption to the horse industry by creating chances (and second chances!) for people and horses that have been treated as by-products of the horse world. We also want to be a safe harbor for horses that are bought out of kill pens. Many times people who are out of state would like to purchase one of these horses but need the time to arrange shipping. There ar

e also times that people nearby need more time to pick up their new horse or need to make quarantine arrangement. We want to offer our services to these people by having very affordable hauling and daily/monthly boarding rates. We also have quarantine/health packages to help get your horse in great shape before he comes home to you. We are also proud to say that nearly 100% of our ranch horses come from kill pens. There are many, many awesome horses there that just found themselves in a bad situation. We plan many events each month and want to bring people together who love horses or just love the ranch life. We believe that it is very important to care for one another. We offer events throughout the month and will be looking into scheduling clinics.

30 day QT for your horse is $550. Pick up fee for Bowie is $175 and for Last Chance is $100. Your horse starts off on 5 days of Uniprim (antibiotic) to help stem off whatever illness is brewing, we also give your horse 2 wormings, and 2 lice dustings in that 30 days. Your horse gets a halter and 2 scoops of a 14/6 feed daily (14% protein and 6% fat). We have secluded 1 acre paddocks with 10x10 run in shelters, automatic waterers and 24/7 access to fertilized coastal hay round bales. We are also certified in Equine First Aid, Advanced Equine First Aid, and Equine Sports Massage - and have several other certifications in the process! Studs and feral horses are allowed! We are set up for wild! Unfortunately we cannot accept draft horses over 1 year old because they tend to destroy our fencing. Draft crosses are fine!

We have been in business offering our Quarantine services since 2015 and strive to do our best for the equines we care for and their owners. We work very closely with our vet, Dr. Ator, and our farrier and equine chiropractor. Please either ask me to set up appointments or contact me to make sure that I am available for the time of the appointment.

- Dr. Ator (972) 222-2220
- Farrier - Cody Han (903) 221-4488
- Chiropractor- Cody McAree (903) 269-0343

After quarantine we offer long term board starting at $350 a month- many people from the north opt to keep their horses here through the winter since itโ€™s cheaper and easier for us to care for them here with no snow and mild temps! For pasture Board ($350), your horse will go out into a 55 acre pasture with other horses to make friends and live like a horse. Along with the pasture grass we also have round bales out in the pasture to supplement the grass that is growing. There is also an oversized barn that the horses have free access to in inclement weather. Pasture horses get a dose of safeguard wormer every month to help stem off a heavy parasite load. If youโ€™d like your horse to also be grained (14/6 grain) once a day while on pasture board it is $425 a month.
Paddock board is $475 a month. Your horse will have a paddock up close to the house with a run in shelter, two scoops of a 14/6 feed daily, 24/7 free choice coastal hay via a round bale and automatic waterers. All gentle (not feral) horses on the farm can/will be blanketed in inclement weather if we are provided with a blanket for them. We suggest a light/waterproof winter blanket and we will go out and measure your horse for you.

Hauling fees are due the day of the haul. When picking up a horse from the kill pen I can usually pick up within 24-48 hours of notice. Board is due at the beginning of each 30 days the horse is here. After 5 days of non payment there will be a late charge of $5 per day per horse. Nonpayment of 60+ days can result in reselling the horse to cover expenses.

Here is some of the various pricing you may come across for the care of your horse that is not included in QT/Board. This is not an exhaustive list and is subject to change by the people who provide these services.

- Farrier - $50 trim, $25 shoe removal
- Chiropractor - $75
- Teeth Float - $125
- Haul in to the vet - $75 for the first horse, $25 for each additional horse up to 3 horses.
- Holding your horse for any service (chiropractor, farrier, etcโ€ฆ) $5 per horse
- MTG and application - $25
- Banamine shot - $10 each
- Wormer - $20 (quest plus)
- Coggins - $35
- Health Certificate - $65
- 1200lb of Alfalfa - $230
- Vet farm call - $80
- Vet evaluation- $125
- Halter breaking - $500
- Dead horse removal and disposal - $300
- Extra halter - $7
- Lead rope - $10
- Fly mask - $30

Pick ups are by APPOINTMENT ONLY AND MUST BE SCHEDULED 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE. There is a fee of $25 if we catch and have the horse ready and thereโ€™s a no show or for RUSH pick ups with less than 24 hour notice by your hauler. We have these rules in place so we can run our ranch smoothly and not have to rush or waste anyoneโ€™s time. We also only load horses at REASONABLE times. So we will not be loading horses from 11PM to 7AM. If you need health papers we need 1 week notice to have paperwork ready.

We are not responsible for accidents, injuries, or death! If for some reason your horse is to perish, there is a $300 haul off fee to have your horse deposed of. Any board left after that which has not already been used up in the daily rate will be refunded to you.

Multiple horse discount is $25 per horse off of board. At this time we unfortunately cannot lower any prices for rescues wanting to work with us. Our prices are already as low as we can possibly go without it negatively effecting the horses care. We hope everyone understands!

Unlike humans, horses are designed to run on a full stomach. Feeding your horse 2-3L of chaff or a biscuit of hay prior to exercise has two benefits :
1๏ธโƒฃ The chaff will form a ball of feed in the stomach, which will help prevent acid from splashing up from the lower part of the stomach to cause gastric ulcers.
2๏ธโƒฃ Blood is normally diverted away from the stomach during exercise, which reduces some of its normal protective mechanisms. Research has shown that feeding your horse before exercise actually reduces the amount of blood that is shunted away from the stomach and also increases the amount of blood delivered to the skeletal muscles and muscles of the chest. So not only are you helping to protect the stomach, you also might be improving your horseโ€™s performance.

I saved this old Amish horse from Last Chance Kill Pen in Kemp, TX. And she ended up saving my life in the worst snow storm Texas has seen.

74 likes, 3 comments. โ€œMaple is a draft horse that the amish threw away to an auction because they didnโ€™t want to feed her through the winter. I bought her from a killpen in texas for $900. She pulled wood home for me in the snow so that I wouldnโ€™t freeze to death in my home. Such a good girl....
