September 21st is National Maltese Appreciation Day. Maltese dogs have the look of an aristocrat and were favored by royalty over the years. In honor of this adorable breed Heavenly Gates Pet Cremation has some fun facts about the Maltese…

🐾 It’s thought that the Maltese dog breed originated in Malta, a small island nation south of Sicily, Italy. It’s also where they get their name.
🐾 Malta was known for its luxury and sophistication, so this origin story really fits this breed.
🐾 Maltese dogs have been highly valued throughout time. In fact, it’s said that one Maltese dog was sold for the equivalent of $2,000 in the 1500s.
🐾 They are considered to be hypoallergenic, like Poodles and Bichon Frise, so they make great dogs for people with allergies.
🐾 Maltese dogs are infamous for being picky eaters.
🐾 They have a cute black button nose that can turn pink if the dog doesn’t get enough sun.
🐾 The noses of female Maltese dogs can also turn pink when they are in heat.
🐾 They make wonderful therapy dogs for many reasons, including their small size and loving personalities.

The work we do can be extremely emotional and challenging at times, but being a light in someone’s life during one of their most difficult and darkest days makes it all worth it. We take pride in caring for your beloved animal companions and helping you through this journey. It’s an honor to be part of your healing process, and we are grateful for the trust you place in us.

On of my amazing customer’s dropped off this beautiful gift as a thank you for helping them through a difficult time, and it touched my heart. I was going to take it home, but the paw print rainbow was so special that I decided to hang it in our viewing room for everyone to see. September 17th is National English Setter Day! Heavenly Gates Pet Cremation loves all dog breeds, but today we are celebrating the beautiful English Setters!

The English setter is one of the oldest gun dog breeds, with a history that traces back to the 14th century. These sporting dogs were breed for being expert hunters and have an excellent sense of smell. This dog breed was named for these dogs’ practice of “setting” or crouching low, when they found birds and they would stand very still and point with one paw in the air. They are also amazing guard dogs but make great family companions and are extremely affectionate.

Heavenly Gates Pet Cremation will be hosting our 2nd annual FREE Pet Portrait Event on October 13th from 11:00am-4:00pm. There is no cost for this event, however donations will be accepted and 100% of all donations with be matched by Heavenly Gates Pet Cremation and donated to our local humane societies. (Last year we were able to bless the Georgetown SPCA & Sussex County Animal Association/Whimsical Animal Rescue.)

Please come out and show your support and get some great photos of your adorable pets!! All pets are welcome! There will be both fall and Halloween backdrops to choose from. Feel free to bring your 4legged family members in their Halloween costume or just get some beautiful fall photos with your pets.

National Great Dane Day is celebrated on June 12th every year. The Great Dane holds the record for being the tallest dog breed in the world, and while in its present form has only worked as a guard dog, the ancestors of this canine have been war dogs, fighting dogs, and high-status hunting dogs. They are now gentle giants, bred for their docility.
Here are some fun facts about this Colossal breed…
🐾 Great Danes are a German dog breed and are Germany’s National Dogs.
🐾 Extremely intelligent and known for their strength and sense of smell.
🐾 They are affectionate with family and love to please their humans.
🐾 They shed very little, extremely low maintenance, but they drool more than any other breed: This is due to their square jaw and loose lips.
🐾 They are the official state dog of Pennsylvania
🐾 During the Middle Ages they Were Believed to Repel Evil Entities. There was a belief that these dogs could sense entities and protect their owners from them. Some Great Dane owners would sleep close to their dogs to protect them from nightmares too.
