Every morning, I enjoy my coffee while browsing social media, checking email, etc. One thing I look at in particular is Lost/Found pet postings in my area. It breaks my heart to see how many pets are lost in this area EVERY DAY. Right now, I have two friends who are searching for their lost dogs.
The frequent thunderstorms have caused a lot of dogs to bolt through doors or escape their yards, and as we draw close to July 4th, the number of lost pets is going to skyrocket because of the fireworks being set off. Please folks, be just a bit more careful with your pets in the coming days.
Bring your pets in before dark on nights there are scheduled fireworks displays, and if they need another potty break before bedtime, consider leash-walking or at least supervising their outside time. Be aware of the weather, and be quick to bring your pets indoors if we have a thunderstorm approaching. It only takes a split second for your pet to panic and take off.
On a similar note, if you have a small dog or a cat, be especially careful if they are outdoors after dark. We have a healthy and BOLD coyote population, even in town. Small dogs and cats are easy prey for a hungry coyote.
