Great advice/info from one of our local vet clinics. Be careful in this heat, my friends!

There already has been several heat related fatalities in the Chattahoochee area. Please don't let your pet become a statistic.
Here are some things to look out for…
• Seizures
• Panicked look & Glassy eyes
• High body temperature
• Racing heart beat
• Staggering or collapsing
• Red, purple, or blue gums & tongue
• Vomiting
• Excessive drooling
• Heavy Panting
A dog’s normal body temperature is between 101.00F – 102.5F
At 107.0F a dog’s organs begin to shut down.
What should you do if your dog is in danger of heat stroke?
• Move the dog out of direct sunlight
• Place the dog on top of wet towels
• Do not cover the dog with towels
• Place the dog in front of a fan
• Offer small amounts of tepid water
• Add a pinch of salt into the dog’s water to help replace any lost minerals from drooling
• Vigorously massage dog’s legs – get circulation moving whilst lowering the risk of shock
• Apple tepid to cool water to paw pads, chest, and underarms
"BIG TIP" NEVER leave your dog in a car!

I hope all my customers and fur-friends are doing well in these crazy times. I miss seeing you all, and I hope life gets back to normal soon! In the meantime, hug your pups and be grateful we live in a time and place where medical care is available if we should get ill. Say prayers for those who have contracted this aggressive Covid19 virus, and most of all - STAY SAFE! Miss you all!

It’s hard to withstand those puppy dog eyes any time of year, and can seem next to impossible at holiday meals during the season of giving. But for the good of our dogs, we need to resist the temptation to feed them table scraps—and so do our guests.

It was wet and windy, but Hurricane Michael was kind to us. It's too dark to check the entire property, but we have power and have verified that the dog's fences are all still standing. All dogs are fine and slept through all the drama.

good morning! We are safe and sound after the tornado last night. We do have trees down across the driveway so if you are picking up or dropping off today please bear with us as we work to get it cleared out.

Every morning, I enjoy my coffee while browsing social media, checking email, etc. One thing I look at in particular is Lost/Found pet postings in my area. It breaks my heart to see how many pets are lost in this area EVERY DAY. Right now, I have two friends who are searching for their lost dogs.

The frequent thunderstorms have caused a lot of dogs to bolt through doors or escape their yards, and as we draw close to July 4th, the number of lost pets is going to skyrocket because of the fireworks being set off. Please folks, be just a bit more careful with your pets in the coming days.

Bring your pets in before dark on nights there are scheduled fireworks displays, and if they need another potty break before bedtime, consider leash-walking or at least supervising their outside time. Be aware of the weather, and be quick to bring your pets indoors if we have a thunderstorm approaching. It only takes a split second for your pet to panic and take off.

On a similar note, if you have a small dog or a cat, be especially careful if they are outdoors after dark. We have a healthy and BOLD coyote population, even in town. Small dogs and cats are easy prey for a hungry coyote.
