Just a quick little update on Shiner!

He’s doing wonderful at his new home. He even got a fancy new pair of shoofly boots!

Well, yesterday was a hard but happy day. Our sweet Shiner went to his new home. The King family gained an incredible horse. Luckily, I’ll get to see Shiner every 4-5 weeks when I’m taking care of his hooves.

Happy trails big guy!

PS: Don’t y’all worry, if anything were to happen and Shiner needed to be moved, he’s coming right back here and will die with us.

Happy 1 Year Shiner!

A year ago today, Shiner stepped off the trailer into his new life, a life filled with food, love, and safety. Glad to have this sweet handsome boy on our ranch.

What better way to celebrate and show Shiner off than pictures at breakfast.

Taking a minute to brag on these two little girls, Annie (red roan) and Rowdy (bay roan). Both of these girls stood like champs for me to do their hooves, it was Rowdy’s first time ever and Annie’s second time ever. Neither one of them kicked, bit, or pulled away with force from my hands or the stand. They stood better than most mature horses I do. Annie is almost 9 months of age and Rowdy is 6 months of age, when I bought them they both were feral as they come, never handled, touched, or haltered.

With that being said, it is not your farrier’s job to teach your horses how stand for the farrier, it is yours! I hear so many times how people’s horse stand for their owners to pick up their hooves, well a farriers job takes longer to do then 2 seconds. Teach your horses patience and respect! Not only will your farrier love you for this but they will love your horses even more and be able to do the job your horse needs safely.
