What The Humane Society & Animal Shelter Does

• Provides a temporary home for lost, abandoned and owner turn in dogs and cats.
• Provides food, shelter and medical care for our animals.
• Cleans and maintains the Searcy Animal Shelter.
• Adopts out animals as per board policy.
• Staffs the Searcy Animal Shelter on a paid and volunteer basis.
• Works in conjunction with the Searcy Animal Control

• Promotes spay and neuter programs.
• Holds fundraising events to earn operating revenues.
• Offers private and corporate memberships to the public at a modest cost.
• Makes educational material available to schools, organizations and the general public.

This post has every single one of our dogs currently available for adoption. Under each picture is any information we know about them. We have a LOT of dogs needing homes. We have tons of puppies, but we also have a few awesome adult dogs and older puppies/young adults.

The adoption fee for all dogs is $100, which includes age appropriate vaccinations, monthly heartworm/flea/tick preventatives, intestinal dewormer, age appropriate spay/neuter, and microchip at time of adoption!

It's HOT!🥵Heat stress in dogs is just as serious and life-threatening as it is for humans. It is important to take steps to keep them cool outdoors during high temperatures and know the signs of heat stress.

These are the common signs of heat stress. If you notice your pet experiencing any of these symptoms, get emergency veterinary care immediately:

▪️Excessive panting
▪️Excessive drooling
▪️Abnormal gum and tongue color
▪️Anxiousness
▪️Restlessness
▪️Unsteadiness
▪️Collapse

Take these steps to keep your pets cool when temperatures rise:

🐶Provide unlimited access to fresh water and shade.

🐶Exercise your dogs in the cooler parts of the day.

🐶Stay off hot surfaces, such as asphalt, when exercising your dogs. This can cause serious burns to their paws.

🐶Never leave a pet in a vehicle, even for a short time. Temperatures in vehicles can rise to dangerous levels within minutes.

🐶Talk to your veterinarian about whether you should trim or clip your dog’s coat and whether you should use sunscreen on your pet.

🐶Keep them free of parasites, including fleas, ticks, and heartworms. Discuss the appropriate products and dosages for your pets with your veterinarian.

We are just 2 months away from Wishbone's one year anniversary of being brought to the shelter. Wishbone entered as a young puppy and has spent almost an entire year living in the shelter. He desperately needs out. He needs a loving home that can make up for all the time he's spent living in a concrete kennel. We do our best to make all of our animals stays as comfortable as possible, but nothing can substitute a loving family.

Wishbone is extremely anxious in his kennel. He has lots of energy, and even with regular playtimes and walks, it's not enough to keep him stimulated and fulfilled. Wishbone is great with other dogs and has tested okay with cats. He's freaked out by little kids but is okay with mature and respectful older kids. He is an all-around great dog and just the sweetest, most loving boy.

Wishbone is 1 year old and weighs 30 pounds. He is neutered, okay on leash, and appears to be housetrained.

Lola is still waiting 😥 This girl is a blast and has so much potential in the right home. She has a lot of energy and isn't going to be a couch potato, but she will be perfect for an active family. She is extremely smart, treat motivated, and trainable. She has learned sit, stay, shake, and down. She has plenty of energy and loves to splash in the pool and play tug. She gets along well with bigger dogs. She loves attention and is very friendly. She can be a little too much for smaller children but would be great with older, active kids. Lola is 5+ months old and weighs ~30 pounds. She is healthy, spayed, and has had three sets of puppy shots.

Everyone needs a Howard in their life! This boy just oozes happiness, and it is guaranteed to rub off on his people! Howard has perfected the puppy dog eyes and makes it impossible to say no. He is a friendly and playful pup. Howard is 10 weeks old and weighs 13 pounds. He is healthy and has had his first set of puppy shots.

Where are our Lab lovers? This big ol' handsome boy is Cody! Cody is sweet and great with people. He is pretty picky with his canine friends, so if you currently have dogs, a meet and greet is a must. He likes to play and then lay down and cool off in the pool. He does need a little help learning not to jump. Cody is 3 years old and weighs 82 pounds. He is heartworm negative and neutered.

Ellie was originally brought to the shelter over a year ago. She was an adorable 7 week old puppy and has had to grow up in the shelter. She has spent the majority of her life living in a kennel. Her first adoption lasted less than a week before she was brought back because she was too active for the adopter. The second adoption lasted longer, but she was still returned after a few months because she didn't like being left outside and was digging out of the fence. Ellie is an extremely sweet and loving dog. She loves attention and is very affectionate. She is reported to do well with kids 8+ and has tested okay with cats. She can be a little picky about her dog friends. Ellie is a little over a year old and weighs 44 pounds. All I can say is someone is missing out big time on Lola. I can not begin to understand how she has sat in the shelter for almost 3 months with no interest
