If you're like us, you've been refreshing your weather app all week to see if it's still going to snow here in Western Washington. We don't know if it will snow, but we do know it's important to keep your pet safe during these conditions.

For cold, icy, or snowy conditions, try to limit your pet's outdoor exposure. If you do venture outside, make sure your pet does not ingest any salts or de-icer. Please wipe down their paws after trips outside so they do not lick it off their paws. Otherwise, we recommend having a cozy snow day inside with your pet!

Look who's back in the exam room! Cara President, Dr. Peter Brown, is heading to his local Cara location, Village Veterinary Hospital, on the 15th to see some pets.

Peter has spent a whopping 32 years in veterinary medicine - most of which he spent running his own practice in Skagit Valley. When he's not leading 10 vet clinics or bugging marketing about the TikTok strategy, we're very fortunate he continues to practice veterinary medicine.

If you're local to the Whatcom or Skagit area, or just REALLY want to see Dr. Brown, you can make an appointment with him here: https://social.caraveterinary.com/seedrbrown

Your indoor pet may never set foot outside, but that doesn't mean critters can't find them!

Learn more about why we recommend flea, tick, and worm prevention for your indoor pets:

In the cozy confines of home, it's easy to assume that our indoor pets are shielded from the threats of fleas, ticks, and worms. However, these pesky intruders can find their way in, and the consequences can be more than just an itch. Let's delve into the importance of preventative medication for th...

To celebrate the season of giving, for each referral to any of our Cara Veterinary locations in December and January, we're donating $25 to Team Okanogan Animal Rescue!

TOAR is a non-profit focused on supporting the animals of Okanogan County in Eastern Washington - a county that currently does not have an animal shelter. Let's help change that together!

Diving into the nitty-gritty of general veterinary practice with our spay lab at WSU College of Veterinary Medicine! Led by Dr. Katie, our medical director, and Dr. Matt, from Village Veterinary Hospital, these veterinary students got to practice their surgical procedures and create new uterine models to continue to build these skills.

It's so important to us to help shape the future of veterinary medicine and empower these students with hands-on experience as early in their curriculum as possible!

The signs of this unknown canine respiratory pathogen are similar to other canine respiratory illness - coughing, sneezing, fever, and lethargy. If your dog shows any of these symptoms - don't wait! Bring them in so your vet can evaluate what might be causing this and provide the care they need.

As word of this unknown canine respiratory pathogen continues to spread, we are diligently in touch with our contacts at other clinics and state offices to stay on top of the latest updates. Currently, we continue to recommend all pets be fully vaccinated and eliminate exposure to unknown dogs. If that is not possible in your situation, please talk to your veterinarian. At our Cara Veterinary locations, we have lots of influenza vaccinations and same week availability if you need to come in!

Recently, a canine respiratory illness has made the news. While we still have not identified a specific pathogen for this illness, we do know that respiratory pathogens are very contagious and are transmitted via droplets in the air.

There are two simple ways to protect your pet from this disease:

💉 Keep vaccinations up to date (if you are unable to verify, please contact your veterinarian)
🐶 Avoid interaction with unknown pets or pets who frequently travel/board

If daycare or boarding environments are something you can't avoid, please see your veterinarian to see what additional vaccinations may be needed to protect your pet. The same goes if you are unable to verify your pet's vaccinations are up to date.

We're happy to see you at one of our locations - many of which have same-day availability: https://caraveterinary.com/locations/

We are so excited for this new Veterinary Preventative Health Certificate Program offered by WSU College of Veterinary Medicine! Our very own President, Dr. Brown, and Head of Medicine, Dr. Rawlings, both WSU DVM grads, helped lend their expertise to the development of this program.

Client communication and preventative care are two of the main focuses of our work and we are happy to bring that knowledge to the profession as a whole. Together, we can better care for pets - ensuring they have a long and happy life.

The new certificate course, developed by leading experts in the field, equips students 18 and older with the information and skills critical to excelling in the veterinary profession.
