This World Diabetes Day, we’re talking about cats! Feline diabetes is one of the most common conditions we manage, especially in middle-aged and senior cats.

A key risk factor? Weight. Overweight cats are at a much higher risk of becoming diabetic.

The #1 sign owners notice? A change in the litter box. If you suddenly find yourself cleaning up massive urine clumps or your cat is always at the water bowl, it's time for a check-up!

Looking for a sweet kitty to join the family? Meet Olive! If Olive isn't right for you, they always have plenty of beautiful cats looking for loving homes!

MEET OLIVE!

Olive is a 10-month old domestic short hair black/smoke and white tux with tabby markings. Her fur coloring is very interesting and unique.

Olive is one of many cats and kittens who were rescued from a deplorable hoarding situation. Once rescued, she spent some time in a foster home where she flourished and blossomed in every way. Her foster mom tells us:

"Olive grew up in an overcrowded, dirty room, but that hasn't stopped her from being a total love bug. she is incredibly friendly and affectionate, with the sweetest personality and she absolutely loves attention! After spending so much time being overlooked, she's now soaking up all the love she can. She gets along very well with other cats and doesn't mind cat-friendly dogs. She'll happily roll around when you pet her, showing just how happy and relaxed she is. Olive is a sweet, loving cat who's ready to be someone's favorite companion."

We agree with everything the foster mom says! This girl is an absolute snuggle bug!

Olive has been spayed, vaccinated, dewormed, microchipped and viral tested. She has corneal scarring on her right eye, which gives it a slightly milky appearance. This is from an old ulcer and it is completely healed. She isn't uncomfortable in any way.

As we begin the salmon spawning season, we wish to remind all of our canine owners that our local raw salmon (eaten from the side of a stream or fished) is unsafe for dogs and any dog who eats it is in danger of a very serious parasitic infection.
