Playtime!!
Wand toy tips:

Get your kitty's hunting drive going with some wand
toys. Here are a few tips for ensuring you have a happy cat.
Make the attachment move like a bug, mouse, or bird
would do in the wild.
Avoid waving the wand or attachment directly in the
cat's face.
Think like a mouse or a bird. How would
they move?
Try dragging it around corners and up and over things.
Let your cat get into it. We aren't trying to wear your
cat out, we are giving him a "hunting" style
experience.
Allow the stalk, pounce, and bunny kick
with those powerful back legs.
When done with the session, remember to put the
wand away for next time... you don't want to leave
dead prey lying around.

Behaviour changes can be indicative of medical issues.

It can also be that the cat used to tolerate something until it became too much and now is deciding that they want something to change. This could be something like having to share litter boxes, cat scratching posts, or food bowls etc.
They may just suddenly decide that they do not want to have to put up with sharing anymore.

If you wait a few months to see if the behaviour just goes away, you end up with a behaviour which will take longer to change.
Also, chronic stress can lead to medical issues which means now you need expensive vet visits on top of the behavioural issue.

Get a vet check then contact a cat behaviourist the moment you see a behaviour change in your cat!

If you are in the Brisbane area is amazing and offers BOTH vet care and behaviour help so you are lucky!

If you are in the Townsville area
and Greencross Aitkenvale both have vet behaviourists who can perform medical check ups as well as look at the behaviour side!

Otherwise you can have a check up with your local vet and then employ the services of a cat behaviour consultant (most offer online options).

Some behaviourists I recommend (beside myself):

To name only a very few!! There are a lot around so even do a Google search, read their qualifications and reviews and get someone to help.

It's a little blurry, but look at those claws!
This is what enrichment with Dash (who likes to swat) looks like. He loves to get into position, then flick the ball his way and watch him go!!
He gets to swat at things, and no one or animal gets hurt. Everyone wins!!

Recently, I noticed Bug using a bunched up spot on our blanket as a little pillow.

It got me thinking... she is a super senior who was declawed (long before me) and now has osteoarthritis... maybe the little ripple in the blanket acting like a pillow gives her some relief.

I love the soft kickers from over at and thought they might be just the right size to act as a little pillow for her.

As you can see, they are working purr-fectly.

Step 12
Make carrier conditioning part of
your regular routine. Take trips around the block, down the street, to another room in the home, or to the vet just for a treat, no exam.

Carrier tips 101:

Step 11
Now that kitty is getting used to the movement, try moving the carrier to different rooms of the home. Practice stepping out the front door and back in again. To the car and back. Etc. Get kitty used to going to a variety of locations. Go slow. Treat often for willing participation and check the stress level frequently by offering the opportunity for them to get out.

Carrier tips 101:

Step 10

Now that kitty is going in the carrier and you can close the door, let's add some movement.
Don't overdo it. Just a small scoot across the floor or lift it up a couple of inches. Now treat and check the stress level by opening the door and allowing your cat to exit if they wish. If not, repeat.
