Our team wanted to say thank you to all of the community members who stopped by our booth at the Rooted in Roosevelt event. It was fun to meet everyone and share some of what we are doing. We have contacted the individuals who won the several raffles:
1] Hill's pet food for 3 months - one winner
2] Purina goodie basket with food, treats, a food bowl, travel blanket, and travel coffee cup among the items
3] Guess the number of tooth roots in the jar: total 103
The closet guess without going over, was 88 (dog owner), next was 72 (cat owner). We awarded each a collapsible water bowl and dental chews along with a measuring cup & lid.
We'd also like to thank our sponsors - Hill's Pet Food, Purina, Dechra and Elanco.

🌟 PETS of the MONTH for AUGUST 🌟
Bridger's & Bakara's owners have shared some insights into these youngsters. Enjoy!

Bridger is honored to have been nominated as pet of the month.
- 3 likes: any & all food, camping, people (especially the HHV staff🫶🏻)
- 3 dislikes: the fact that his cat brothers don’t want to play, horses, vacuum
Funny memory/ story: At 11 weeks old Bridger served as our team’s mascot for the Northwest Passage Ragnar race inspiring us to run 200 miles while he just napped most of the time.

Here are some of our favorite pictures of Bakara! She's still so tiny so she can't fill out a full frame much.
- 3 likes: She loves any trash, all boxes and wrapping paper is hers. She loves to snuggle and will lay in bed with us any chance she gets. She loves to harass her big sister, Gorb, and will bop and swipe anytime Gorb is nearby.
- 3 dislikes: She absolutely despises closed doors, she will yell (squeak, she hasn't figured out meowing yet) at any closed door. She hates window washers, she thinks it's unnatural how they just appear, floating. Finally, her mortal enemy are crows, they sit outside our windows and stare at her.
A good funny story about her was her first day we brought her home we had separated her in the bedroom, and she didn't seem to mind at all and was just happy to have a ton of new attention. But after settling down she noticed our clothes hamper and was absolutely mortified, for about 20 minutes. The picture of her with her back arched is from that first day and her short-lived fear.

A 10 year-old dog named Dexter went viral in 2020 when he learned to walk upright on two legs after an accident took away the use of his front legs. Now, the inspiring pup is the focus of “Dexter: The Stand Up Dog,” a new children’s book that teaches kids to overcome challenges. Dexter and his...

FDA ADVISORY: The FDA is cautioning pet owners that a sample of Darwin’s Natural Pet Products beef dog food made by Arrow Reliance, Inc. tested positive for Escherichia coli (E. coli) O157:H7 that is associated with a human illness. In addition, one sample of Darwin’s chicken dog food and one sample of Darwin’s duck dog food tested positive for Salmonella Infantis and Hadar, respectively.

The FDA recommended that Arrow Reliance, Inc. recall the product lots that tested positive for E. coli O157:H7 and Salmonella. To date, the firm has not recalled the affected products. These products, which were manufactured in May or June 2024, were sold frozen, have no expiration date on the label, and could still be in consumers’ freezers. Therefore, the FDA advises consumers to check their freezers for the affected lots of Darwin’s Natural Pet Products prior to feeding to pets.

The affected lots of pet food were sold in frozen 2-pound white and clear plastic packages with four separate units. The beef and chicken BioLogics dog food have orange labeling, and the duck Natural Selections dog food has blue labeling. Product lot codes are printed on the front of the lower left unit of the package. The affected varieties and lot codes are:

▪ Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, BioLogics All-Natural and Grain Free, Beef Recipe for Dogs; Lot 10662, MFG Date: May 30, 2024
▪ Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, BioLogics All-Natural and Grain Free, Chicken Recipe for Dogs; Lot 10683, MFG date: June 05, 2024
▪ Darwin’s Natural Pet Products, Natural Selections Duck Recipe for Dogs; Lot 10638, MFG date: May 22, 2024

🥳 BADGER is our PET of the MONTH🥳
We are excited to have Badger featured as pet of the month! Here is the information you requested (and I've attached some cute photos).

Three likes:
• He loves belly rubs, and even has a special signal to show he's ready for them
• Snuggling with his family - which also means joining him in his dog bed to snuggle
• Swimming - he can't wait to jump into Lake Washington any chance he gets

Three dislikes:
• Squirrels - he even reacts when he hears the word squirrel (but he loves chasing and barking at them)
• The groomer - even though he looks so handsome afterward, he's not a fan of going
• Suitcases - he knows that means we're going on a trip

Funny story:
Badger's nickname is "the landshark". His super power is sneaking up on people when they're eating and snatching food out of their hands when they least expect it. One time he was being dogsat by his grandparents, who were hosting a gathering at their house. The hostess prepared a beautiful apple pie to share with the guests. While the guests were busy chatting away, Badger managed to eat the whole pie from the table when no one was looking!
